First let me say I really enjoy the game through the later part of closed beta and the first half of open beta (until my video card decided to die). After playing WoW for 4 years almost to the day it is nice to play something different.
However I’m not sure I will be playing Aion any more. I thought with the purchase of a new video card it would be a good time to format and clean up my hard drive. Apparently that was a big mistake. I’m on my second reinstall in three days now and I still can’t get to the log in screen for Aion. I know it’s possible because my wife’s computer on the same network does get to the log in.
In this latest install I have only installed Vista important updates and I don’t have any virus software installed. I have turned off the windows firewall and the router firewall is off (not important because my wife’s works fine through the router anyhow). And I still get the dreaded error 114.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Like I said the only thing I have installed at this time after installing Vista is the important updates, Aion and WoW. The firewall is off and I have no third party virus protection installed yet! I’m at a total loss on what can be pissing off Game Guard…
I hope by launch NCsoft opens there eyes and makes loading and running there game on the average home computer easy. A lot of people (including myself) are not computer nerds and can get very frustrated quickly when there isn’t any easy solution to install/run errors. If not they will more then likely loose many people that could have been paying customers.

Well it could be that, since the servers are now offline that you can't connect to them which means you can't update gameguard which will lead to that error. Your wifes PC probably had the latest version of Aion and gameguard installed so it wasn't a problem.
I don't know if thats the actual problem, it's just a theory.
Also, make sure that you have User Account Control turned off.
This ^ fix it for me in OB...
RIP Orc Choppa
If it launches on your wife's computer just fine, it's obviously something with your computer. I haven't heard of any wide spread problems about this error, nor have I had it myself and I run on Vista 64.
Why would you expect NCSoft to open 'their" eyes? Because you're having a problem setting up your computer?
If the problem was/is widespread with the game itself, you can be sure they'd give it some attention... but just for you and your computer setup?... umm.. no.

Currently: AION, an MMO Beta under NDA
Played: WAR, LOTRO, Hellgate: London, CoX, GW, SotNW, DAOC, EQ2, SWG, WoW, AO, Horizons, Second Life, There, TSO
Beta'd: There, Second Life, EQ2, DAOC:LotM, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, Gods and Heroes, Hellgate: London, Requiem:Bloodymare, AoC, WAR, DDO, Fallen Earth
Never thought of that. I guess i will have to hold my breath and keep my fingers crossed. But my luck I'll miss some or all of the two days of early play that I payed for. I was just trying to be all set to go
I'll try turning off user control. However I had it on before the reinstall and Aion worked fine.

Ha ha I never thought it was so widespread either. Do a search on error 114 it goes back to 2007!!! There are thousands of frustrated people. And I was saying I can see a lot of new players that have never had to deal with Game Guard having problems like I did.

My fix would be to take my significant others working system and use that for the head-start. It's a simple, albeit effective solution.
If she attempts to regain control, snarl menacingly at her. If that doesn't work, just release flatulence.
I think this is the outside-the-box method. There is also always the almighty fist of justice, which on occasion can heal a broken pc. Or damage it further. It's all about technique.
Seriously though. Don't give up on Aion! It's pretty fun.
Good idea!!!
She is too busy watching reality TV anyhow.
I also like the game and hope it does well. If I was going to give up I would not have done a second reinstall or searched the web for two days looking for fixes. I want to PLAY
OK... as a f/u to this by turning off the "User Account Control" I was able to get to the login screen. I then turned user control back on and it worked fine. It must only cause a problem durring initial setup.
And you can test your launcher right now to make sure Game Guard isnt having any problems on your PC before the early launch starts. servers being off line is not an issue. I'm ready to go!
Thanks for the suggestion!
I simply ran the game as administraor or in xp compatibility mode. Either way removed the GG problems.

I was definitely able to fix mine as well.
