So, I think I'm going to make the jump and pre order the game.
But I have a couple of questions.
In every MMO I play, my main focus is PVP. I know this is a PVP game, but my question is, do you think Asmodian players will be the more PVP focused side? I'm asking this because I cant decide between the factions.
To be honest, I REALLY want to play Eylos. I usually go for the "darker" side, but I dont like the Asmo running animations, and I hate their claws. I prefer the sleek look of the Eylos this time around.
My second question is, which West Side server do you think will be the fullest? I guess we have no way of knowing, but I dont know if some people are going to a certain one. It would be nice to go to a full server with equal sides.
Anyway, hope to hear your answers on this.

These links will take you to the NA & EU server forums (Elyos & Asmo). Inside each you will find a listing of all the guilds playing playing on which server and some Q & A's. It might help ya find the right server for you.

I would guess Nezeken or Ariel will be the highest pop West coast servers. Most of our Legion is West coast or midwest but we are still going with a EST server because of the fortress siege times.
From reading I don't think 1 side will be more focused on PvP than the other. Everyone is pretty fired up about it.
Let me know if you have any other questions, I will try and answer what I can.
Zikel (NA) will have a lot of WAR peeps on it. And I think the Nezekan server will have the most oceanic peeps.

As far as the sides go it looks to be evenly matched. but it doesn't quite matter because the Balaur are supposed to join the weaker side in certain conflicts.

Population balance on any given server will be the main factor for enjoyment for playing on that server
Unfortunatly, you will not know what servers have this balance until a 2wks-month after release
Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
Thank you so much for the help. Those links were great.
I think I will roll on Nezekan because I dont get home until about 10PM EST. So playing on a west coast server with some aussies should provide a good time frame that I can play in. It also seems pretty even or eylos heavy which is definitely appealing to me.
People are so nice on these forums (when they are not trolling). I hope people are like that in game.
Although the people on AionSource did seem to be fairly rude sometimes :-/
A large amount of people from my old WAR server Brettonia will be on some of these servers....and thats probably the worst news I have heard about the game thus far.
In short, NCsoft will make each server balance no matter what. But, get in for the preselect if you really want to be Elyos.
Oh really?
Is there any confirmation of this????

It;s how it works in Korea when one side gets a 60/40% ratio the race with 60 can no longer get new members so any new players have to join the other side. Best feature in a RvR ever... cant't believe other games didn't think about this.

Yes, you are right. This is a good idea.
Thank you for the follow up post.
This time around actually seems like based on fan sites, more asmodian players than elyos on a lot of servers.

Ive never seen anything on this, if that is true. I like the idea. But i dont know how you can force someone to play a certain side. Also from what ive seen it looked like Elyos is the more popular choice by many guilds. I guess time will tell

No ones forced to do anything but play fair on one server or go to a different one. This is progression for RvR games... don't turn it into something bad.

I'm not sure if I've read it on a forum, a website, or just what. What I DO know is that one of a few things might happen when one side is imbalanced: the server will no longer allow players of the high faction to be created; they won't be allowed to log in until the balance is more stable; it's only left to the NPC faction to even it out in abyss. I can't confirm this officially though, and can't find any official details, so if someone else knows without a question, insight would be great. I am fairly certain that there will be some form or another of forced balance, though, and that's nice to know.
BTW, where is your estimate that Elyos is the more popular choice? Viewing the various server/legion forums, I've gotten a very different view. I'm sure my info isn't rock-solid by any means, and that plenty is subject to change come release date. That said, looking at east servers only, and server legion threads, I've counted 153 Asmodian guilds vs. 115 Elyos guilds. That doesn't account for legion size, or last minute changes. It does give some representation of what people are showing interest in. Again, that's based on the eastern NA servers only, info gathered from threads here: www.aionsource.com/forum/north-american-server-forums/

There was a post on the NC Soft beta forums that said specifically "Character creation for any given race is automaticaly disabled on a server when the opposing race exceeds the other by 11%" I would copy here but the forums closed after open beta ended.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Doesn't the NPC race in the abyss kick in against the higher pop faction as well?

Yes, but that could also be zone based, not sure. Asmodians might have more players on the server, but during a fortress raid in the Abyss if the Elyos out number the Asmodians in the zone, they might side with the Asmodians.
