Is this game free??

The DDO website says there is no monthly fee and "no cost". However this site shows a monthly fee of $14.99. I'm a little confused. Is it just a trial they are talking about with no cost?

Thanks.

The Na version of this game published by turbine is free to play, the Eu version published by codemasters is still subed. However the turbine version still has an option 2 sub which unlocks all areas of the game that the f2p players would have to purchase from the item mall or grind for. I think the sub cost is the price mentioned in the game list.

Thanks guys! I read the site, but they don't really explain it too well. The game play looks pretty decent, I may have to give it a try.

I would, I just really don't have the money right now and looking to play an MMO. Most F2P games are horrible. I've played almost every MMO out there, I'll probably give this a try on the F2P version and if I like it pay once I'm in better finacial standing. :)

You can earn DDO Points by doing quests that earn Favour, and there are istems like Sigils that drop, which will open up further levels for your characters.  All in all I approve of the business model, even though I have hitherto disliked the notion of micro transactions.

The starter area on the Cannith server is heaving atm! Going ftp has certainly had an impact.

I'm on Sarlona, Khyber and Cannith and they are all very busy.  The community is so good (there are exceptions, as in every game) that even I would be tempted to group, which is saying something.

Quoted from the front page of ddo.com

"DDO Unlimited introduces an innovative new pricing model that allows players to download and play for free, purchasing adventure packs, items, and account services a la carte from the new DDO Store, or to subscribe to get unlimited access to all of the game’s content"

Its possbile to play the game for free, check this F2P guide out: http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=198865

What a bizzare business model allowing some players to play for free and asking others to pay.

I know that there are two different publishers, but if i was actively playing D&D and paying a sub i would cancel my account out of disgust tbh.

More fool those EU players that continue to pay a sub whilst others get it for free is all i can say.

Hmm even though it sucks that Europe didnt get the new model I think you fail to understand how it works. People in US can still pay monthly and get the same as Europeans. But now there is also the microtransaction option and everyone can join and play there from Europe. I even think alot of Europeans are happy they dont get the new model since they dont like MTs.

I am on the American servers and pay because F2P is very limited and not worth my time.
