Rank means very little in this game until the server matures and most of the players are at max lvl. You can see a lvl30 with a rank of 3 and at the same time see a lvl50 with a rank 9, This means one or two things 1) the lvl50 dude does mostly pve content or 2) he does a lot of pvp and just spent a boat load of AP's on gear.

Oh I get the lack of meaning from rank. I was merely mentioning it to point out the player's experience in PVP in the OB. Under a week, and rank 5 meant the guy had hardcored his level ups, and spent a very large time in PVP.

Every time I went to Morheim (where that little girl "accidentally" sends you), I was fighting ?? players. Every time I fought the assmos in our home land, they were ??. I was level 22-24 for all of my PVP experience, and seeing as the level cap in the OB was 30, they couldn't have been any higher than 6-8 levels.
Furthermore, my first time being "accidentally" sent to Morheim, I was stuck on that mountain, flew down right outside their gates, and started down the road. My first encounter in the game with an asmodian was one who was fighting a level 21 monster. I watched him for a moment, especially after seeing ??, and quickly figured out that he was very near my level, if not 1 or 2 lower. Before he got involved in another fight, I jumped on him (templar) and after a nice long fight, managed to beat him. Five kills and good run down the road later, I'd pretty much decided/determined that for whatever reason, enemy levels are hidden. Either I ignored it to some degree, after that, or truly never saw an enemy player's level. I'd love to know the deal on that.
Anyway, piddling with duels and some arena, even a few levels difference is quite a big deal in Aion with regards to small group and especially 1v1 fights. I'd imagine players 10+ levels higher will decimate nearly any class, as any class. On that note, as a 24 cleric in OB, a specific rank 5 level 28 assassin with cleric backup managed to roll my ass without any possibility for me to fight back (I managed one heal, a pot, and died - under 10s death). However, redemption was nice when he died to a guard after I'd come back, and I managed to kill his cleric buddy, and the sorcerer which had shown up during my run back.
I just don't want people getting the wrong perception. I've said it before and I'll say it again - you don't roll and level characters you'll want to throw away in Aion.
The game never shows the lvl of any enemy player. They could be the same, lower or higher, you just have to make a guess-ta-mate and go for it or run.

Bitchin'. Will make knowing the game and paying attention all the more important.

Cannot tell there lvl by what they are wearing because the game has a "skin swapping" system, And the sneaky players will use this to trick players >_>
The best way to tell is to look at there buffs and know what lvl each class get those skills, that will get you in the ball park of around +- 3 lvls. The best players will look up the players name in the powerbook on the fly and find his exact lvl and gear .

Good clerics can hardly be solo'd, heck, even 2 people might not be enough unless they coordinate interrupts so you won't heal. Also, while one class may be better for solo ganking, it might not be as good as the others for group play. Invisibility is not an auto-win or anything like that, in fact, some korean servers have cleric and chanters at the highest rankings. Self-healing > Invisibility for survival.
Glad you brought up group play because thats also been something on my mind.
This game doesn't seem to have any "instanced" type PVP so it seems the ability to group with people will basically be decided on the quality of your guild im assuming?
I'm really hoping since PVP is a focus in this game, that groups can be had easily for it.
One problem I have with WoW is that its so hard to find a good PVP group at all. Premade BG's are just completely . . over . . . and once people get in a good Arena team, thats all they do, and do coordinate with more players than they already have bound to that team, can leave a lot of people out.
I'm hoping I can get in the game group wise fairly easily and heal to my hearts content.
With any luck, people will be more open to PUG groups since its going to be open world PvP, course theirs no way to be really sure until the game is out and people are playing. Guilds will probably run their own 6 mans as well.
Being a cleric, i doubt you'll have any trouble getting a group, guild or PUG.
But im with you here, hopefully groups won't be to hard to get going
this game will likely turn into DAOC down the road, where your Abyss rank determines if you can get groups. Low abyss rank? good luck finding a group. high abyss rank? turn off whispers, because you are going to get spammed....
i dont care though, becauseim good at PVP, and ill have a high rank.
