Please read: Question about RAM

HaplovHaplov Member Posts: 27

Ok here's my question. My computer currently has 512 megs of ram running at 333 mhz.

I have some extra ram laying around that I could put in to boost it to 1 gig of ram, but the ram I have laying around is 266 mhz.

Now I know that if I put lower speed ram in there it'll downgrade my other ram and it will all run at 266 mhz.

So my question is: Would I get better performance with 1 gig of 266 mhz ram - or would I get better performance with 512 meg of 333 mhz ram

Thanks for the info in advance!

it'll be pretty marginal. Not all RAM is the same. I would suggest upgrading. Getting 333 To add to it, if not DDR. I play on a 1 Gig Pc 3200 Pretty good ram, Crosair Low Latency, it works good, but EQ2 is a Memory/Graphics HOG. The more you got the better. More importantly to me would be fast HD, because every 5 minutes I'm loading. Zones are Rediculous.

Drop 80 bucks on some more 333, it will also be a more stable box. I experimented with 2 machines and swapped ram in and out 1 gig is fine, 1.5 is the sweetspot, 2 gig is overkill for this game. Only major changes I saw was a slight increase in framerate and faster load times when I exceeded 1gig. The game ran acceptable on my wifes machine which is barely over minimum specs (1.7 P4, 512 PC 2700, ti4200) with the graphics tweaked down to the lowest, and even at those settings looked real darn good compared to most MMORPGs.

Great info Jackdog =P I've saved 2k for a new comp now. My comps 4+years old. About time to say bye to my baby. image Since you said 1.5 is the sweet spot, I'm gonna get 2gigs for future expansions and such. Thanks for the info!

Not a problem. My main is a 3 gig P4, 9800 Pro 128 card and 2 gigs of Corsair and I run in windowed mode with about 4 other items in systray and have 800 left over. Load times will be significantly faster with 2 gigs, tonight I was zoning in less than 10 seconds max. I use Cacheman to track my memory usage and guard against memory leaks.

Hope you enjoy your new machine and the game :)

Is version 1.1 the newest version? Cause i searched for it on google and it had like versions 5.5 etc...

5.5 is the old version, 1.1 is CachemanXP. The older free version is what I have installed and it works fine.
