At the end of beta when I joined to early headstart, everything was feeling pretty good. Granted, at the time I still couldn't see how I could stick with it past a few months but that was only because the content was shallow and thin. The quests are highly linear instead of highly repeatable.
But anyway on Launch day or whatever the devs nerfed the shit out of us.
you all know the score but let's rehash:
1) -ALL- Mobs were buffed like x3.
2) Offensive passives received a huge nerf
3) Defensive passives received a huge nerf
4) Many key powers were mysteriously broken like PFF
5) XP on the whole was nerfed from PVE
Even if you were not cookie cutter (like me) you still got weaker cause all the mobs got stronger.
This is where their bad design skills really nails you. Nevermind I really dont know why I'm fighting just a normal gang. They have no powers. But anyway, just normal thugs with guns can be challenging to kill. I can see supernatural demons or supernatural menaces. But these are just thugs with guns. Just seems stupid and silly too me. Ever seen a comic where spiderman (in good health) is having a hard time with just plain ole thugs?????
I can see a supervillian getting buffed. But just a plain ole thug????? Makes no sense. They forgot they were making a superhero game here
And to top it all off they just nerfed PVP xp from Stronghold.
Oh-- and check this out. PVP film where 2 guys cant kill each other lol
And they trying to market they focus on pvp. But every experienced pvper knows to not get excited bout Arenas. Worse- in the Arenas most players get overpowered builds. So they're unkillable. But it's deathmatch. So you see all the pvpers flocking to kill the 'weak links'. Just sad state this game is in.
I canceled my sub for now. But hoping they fix the game before my free trial or whatever runs out But i dont see how they can. They only seem determined to nerf their playerbase.
Man I hoped Cryptic would get better over the yrs but apparently not. Guess i'll just be going back to League of Legends. might give Aion a try but I dunno pretty burned out on fantasy clones too
Comments
I fail to see how the game is a WoW clone since there's no horrorific class system with crappy predefine trees to follow and a horrorific end game grind process to run raids all the time.
Sure it has quests like WoW and is PVE based like WoW with an Arena for leveling up and getting some alright gear..but thats hardly a WoW clone model. It just uses some of the most standard elements in PVE MMOs.
btw THey XP nerf was removed by Early Start
It's not a WOW clone. People throw around that term way too much.
The classless system is nice yes along with character creation. But once you land in the game it's like an extremely linear WoW.
Take WoW, which was already linear. Now remove all the optional quests. Now you have CO. But with less features and content
Worse, there is end game content like WoW where you will be farming same instance over and over. They are called UNITY.
And they did alleviate xp nerf before launch day but not enough. The pacing feels correct however there are major content gaps. Even when you do every misison for your level and supplement with pvp xp you will still find you have to attempt missions above your level.
I think to some people who only played Xbox before WOW they think if it is played on a computer it is a WOW clone. That is the only way that threads like these can be justified about some games.

Many games do resemble WOW, but I've not heard that accusation made about CO nor did the OP manage to compare the two games in any way.
Just a run of the mill "I got nerfed" thread.... nothing to see, move along please.

How is game like WoW----
1) Extremely linear
2) Extreme Quest driven. Worse, grouping is much worse then WoW. Even when you get a group formed there is no point. Right after quest done people leave cause you cant share quests
3) No death penalty -- light like WOW
4) End game raids (UNITY)
5) Arenas --- but worse then WoW cause people cant die.
List goes on and on.
Fine, even if game is not a justified WoW clone it still sucks and deserves the low reviews its getting
-- I shoudnt say it sucks cause it does hold promise. I still think it's worth trying out for a month or so if you like superheroes. But in no way shape or form is it polished like City of Heroes, EVE Online, or Aion (from what I've seen in chinese beta)
Yeah so is all the other numerous complains on CO official forums. We're all just trolls. Nothing to see here. Once game pop is lower than City of Heroes after free month trial then people will get alarmed
These are not the trolls you are looking for...Move Along...Move Along.
The term "WoW clone" means: "I'm an MMO noob whose only played WoW, therefore it's the only MMO I can compare anything to."
And the devs changed CO to actually pose a challenge, so the only people complaining about it are, once again, the noobs who want everything to be easy mode.
Rather than improve your build or get better or team with others you are quiting because you want things to be on easy mod? Fyi Blizzard also nerfed the hell out AoEs first patch after release i remember all the quit threads in the end from the mages who couldn't AoE farm 20 mobs with Blizzard/frost armor, it ended up making the game better since people rolled other classes.
Played ultima online, WoW for a bit, EVE Online (still active 2 years), and many other MMOs. You dont know what you're talking bout here heh/.
And yes it should be easy mode when I am fighting gun using thugs. I'm a superhero. At least, i'm supposed to be.
Show me a superhero that has trouble with 2-3 gun using thugs and I will show someone that is just a 'hero'. Like every other MMO
That term should be burned at the stake.

I'm mainly disappointed due to massive lack of content. I also think they did not balance the PVE well. It is conventional wisdom now for everyone to grab a defensive passive. That's a bloody shame yo.
There is a crap ton of bugs. I mean basic stuff that should work. Like, melees cant hit a moving target with charged abilities. Tanking and holding aggro not working so well. Guns on my guns avatar disappearing. Doing a pvp match, die at the end, get teleported into PVE and die again. just so many bugs and missing content.
PVP not dying in pvp ina DEATHMATCH. PVP xp getting nerfed at the L30 range where DEVs ADMIT there is major content gaps.
List goes on and on
It seems prudent to ofc take a break and come back when the real launch occurs heh. But like i said in my OP I hope they resolve these issues quickly. but all I see in patches is more nerfs
I would hardly call it a WoW clone (that would be too generous).
Its a COH clone and I wasn't impressed. I played in open beta until I lost interest, which didn't take more than a few days. After reading about the release first impressions and the dismal review it got on GameSpy, I feel sorry for those that wasted their money on a lifetime subscription. I'll be surprised if the game survives its first year. I found Tubula Rasa (which died) to be more fun to play.
Thank goodness your opinion about CO really doesn't matter in the long run. This game is far better than what Tabula Rasa was. However, I never thought Tabula Rasa was all that bad... just the TR devs were piss-poor. NC Soft already has 3 dead MORPG's on their hands (Asheron's Call 2, Auto Assault, and TR)... I think they've set a world record for dead MMORPG's.
GameSpy's review was pure and utter biased BS. As was pointed out multiple times on the thread dedicated to the GameSpy reveiw, GameSpy gave Warhammer Online a 5 out of 5... the same game that has lost like 80+% of the servers that were there at launch, yet is only a year old as of yesterday. The same game that is debatebly failed more than AoC. Yeah... 5 out of 5... Fail.
CO will survive, and for a long time. The only thing that is truthfully lacking in this game is content.... but, that's nothing new for MMORPG launches. Once the content begins to flow in, CO will become a much better game.
You are right that our individual opinions aren't going to have a significant impact on the future on CO, however, the combined opinions of all the people that have played it will decide its fate. If too many players decide that its not enough fun to spend their money on, then it will die. Only time will tell if it fails, succeeds or just finds a small niche market.
While lauch time deficiencies can be overcome, they do limit its growth potential in the near term. Vanguard was released while still in rough shape and although it has been cleaned up and significantly improved, its only surviving in a niche market. On the other hand Aion is good shape and has the potential to grab a significant market share if the endgame content is expanded like has been done in WoW (I was pleasantly surprised by Aion's open beta, but not quite enough to buy it).
For myself, I still haven't found another game that will keep playing for years. I played AC1 for over 4 years and WoW for 2, but everything else has been less than a year if you don't could spending over a year in betas for E&B and Neocron. Fortunately, there are plenty of new games in development, so I'll keep trying them out until I find one that I'm willing to spend my money on.
Actually, the main reason why Vanguard isn't thriving is because of $OE. $OE has pretty much given the game a skeleton crew of devs. $OE never wanted VG to succeed, because it would mean direct competition with their babies, EQ 1 & 2. On top of it, $OE has a vast history of pissing off their own customer base. $OE pretty much ignored their player base and put RMT on every server without asking the opinions of their own customers. They asked their EQ2 players about RMT on all servers, and it was a resounding "NO". So, instead of asking their VG customers about RMT on all servers, they just did it. Which pissed off a lot of their customers. Then there was the NGE and Obi-Wan xpack bait-and-switch tactic, that they almost got sued over, and cost them over 80% of their veteran player base. A lot of players have boycotted $OE for just such stunts.
Technically Aion's US beta is not a true beta. It's just to see if the servers and program will work within the US. The game has been out for quite a while in Asia. Therefor, all of the gameplay bugs and deficiencies that plague real MMORPG launches won't be in the Aion "beta". Unless NCSoft finds a way to screw up Aion's US launch. Which, knowing them, they probably will.
I love how people call things "WoW Clones". Why a WoW clone? WoW is a EQ clone, so why not call them EQ Clones?
That's because this game is nothing like EQ1. This game took the heavy based Quest nature from WoW and made that the focus for gaining XP. Similar to Spellborn.... ?I gotta hand it to Cryptic though their quests are way better then Spellborn tho.
Problem is they do not provide enough content by far. MY guildmates (penny arcade) are trying to solo quests that are +3 to them. I was trying to help some poor L21 do L25 mobs and we got plastered a bunch of times
My one friend that is L34 basically gave me a guide how to avoid being stuck like she is w/o having Q!uests to do. Which is bloody sad.
It all goes back to my original post. The devs nerfed XP from Quests and mobs. This would be fine if they had content. But the boneheads have NO CONTENT. And they admitted this. So now they will fill in content gaps with repeatable quests..... argh, the pve'ers are in uproar
The pvp'ers were happy cause they were getting decent XP in stronghold (31+ pvp). But the devs nerfed that too now. So everyone is stuck grinding. And this is not grinding like-- "oh my god I gotta do quests after quests". This is the bad kind- where you have no way to earn decent XP. So u gotta grind like in an Asian MMO on same repeatable content u can find over and over and over
To be fair on my L21 he has a full journal. But I also do PvP and will just group to help others complete their quests. So I don't expect to hit the gap til I hit 30s. I'm taking my time and leveling alts tho and trying to see if they fill the gaps properly before my free month runs out. I know the MMO is new but its a bit too rushed out the doors atm
I know I responded before but I'll respond again. You dont know what you're talking bout. In my original post I said I didnt get nerfed (read the original post I stated it). I'm an Electric. We were in no shape or form overpowered. I think the 1st electric nerf is an test server right now but it's a power I never picked up (Electrocute + Never strike Twice talent)
My other L20 alts never received a nerf either. I think I picked mostly 'normal' powersets like Might, Darkness, etc.
LOL at people that are STILL butt hurt over the launch day patch and the removal of god-mode.
hmm a wow clone cant agree on that one at all.
I played OB for this game and loved it for what it is, a quick pick up and play action super hero game.
I went back and tried out City of hero's after to compare the two and wow is the gameplay slow as all get out in CoH
it felt like I was fighting under water with both my hands tied, compared to the action in CO.
have to say CO was the first MMO in a very long time where I actually became attached to my character and was eager to log on and play it. it did have some downfalls I admit, but to ME they were few and far between as I don't get all nittpicky like most I see on these boards, I take a game for what it is and either enjoy it or leave it.
To be honest I would love to get back into this game if only my poor wallet could afford to.
Yes because it caused massive content gaps. If you do not know this you are either some lowbie <10 or don't even own a copy of the game. It's a huge issue that people all discuss on official forums daily. Everyday there is a new thread where someone has hit the blackhole where they have no quests to do. Thats a dead-end for a game thats notorius for only giving worthwhile XP for quests
I wish I was exaggerating here is latest post from someone complaining bout content gaps and another
The Devs nerfed the XP gain without even playing their own game on Launch day to make sure people could still Level without grinding senselessly. That's just bad business period. I don't care how the fanbios try to cover this up

The first link doesn't even mention anything related to a content gap. They just want to know where they can go at what level ranges. The second post the guy even admits that he missed some content. You ARE exaggerating badly.
A content gap in the early 30's has also been acknowledged with time estimates provided on the addition of new content that will address the content gap. I am still surprised that every day I see people posting who don't know how to effectively use the crime computer or are simply unwilling to do certain missions like that dozen or so timered emergency missions given in the low 20's via Socrates and the mail system. Many people refuse to participate in open missions, PvP matches, Help a Citizen, bank roberies, or repeatable missions. I understand not wanting to participate in PvP, but if you diversify your time on the other tasks there really isn't much of a content gap at all.
Sorry, but I don't have much sympathy for people who are unwilling to participate in the game's existing content, but still complain about the game not having enough content.
