How is this game different from WOW?

I'm thinking of getting this game, just curious if there is anything new about Aion?

    No, there is nothing "new".

It is a reworking of some mmo concepts. Actually that's not even correct. It's just a different mixture of standard mmo concepts, more of a melding of pvp and pve and there is the added aspect of flight into the mix.

I personally think it's a good game. However, if you are tired of standard mmo's with kill x quests or do not like asian mmo's or do not like (read hate) pvp and mind gettng killed here or there then this game might not be for you.

On the other hand, it's a rather interesting world, you can concentrate on pvp or pve (or both) with some bleed through from one or the other, and the avatars are very well made.

its more pvp centric than WoW.

aion should be compared more often to WAR than WoW. but WAR dropped the soap just like most games of its release year so aion never gets the proper comparrisons

I would say this post by Sovrath is correct not much more to add to that.

    solid game IMO

Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

  • It isn't really any different from wow in gameplay at all, combat can be a little more involved a little earlier, but this is just a polished solid MMO experience, no evolution at all.

So if you are up for some more of the same, in a different well executed setting, then Aion is well worth a look.

Yes it's very similar to WOW in how everything works but it's very different in the sense that WOW now it's just going from dungeon to dungeon from Dalaran hub. The living world feeling it's completely lost. Not so in Aion, at least for the first levels, hope it doesn't lose that feeling in the Abyss.

Graphics are better than they are in WoW. At level 10 you get wings and can fly for a short duration of time in some zones. You can open a player store which means you can place items up for sale and go afk and others can purchase those items off of your character at your set price while you are afk... But there is also an Auction House that nullifies the use for player stores.

There are combo spells/attacks that require the use of one ability before the 2nd or 3rd can be used. Interesting concept but also rather mind numbing pressing the same buttons every battle.

Some quests initiate a video cut scene upon completion that is sort of interesting but nothing spectacular.

I'm not a fan of WoW but I have to admit that it is the better game of the two. Aion is more like an upgraded version of a Free 2 Play asian grind MMO. There's a few new features that are interesting but in comparison to a Mega Giant such as WoW they just don't compare.

In WoW the fights are more fluid, the parties are more immersing, the UI has more to offer, and the game is more group friendly in terms of xp gain for leveling.

But if you absolutely have to play something other than WoW... I'd give Aion a shot :)

If you don t like PvP, don t bother. You have to do some PvP wehter you like it or not. I personally love PvP, but not this game. It forces you to go into the Abyss at some point. I like the idea just not the game as said before it s nothing new.

Its a good game, Different From Wow, and the same in some aspects.

wow is a pve based game with pvp elements and is going rather casual as of the last two expansions and will only become more causal, or user friendly.

aion is a pvp based game with pve elements, tending to the needs progression personal pvp titles/rank and legions/ranks think call of duty4, with rewards etc.

Wow will generally have better pve because its proven and Blizzard has that idea on lock down, although some fights do seem repetitive, but to the causal gamer who hasn't seen all of the fights, will be in awe.

aion pve is untested, despite being lauched it korea, its not as extensive as wow, to whereas some will complain about bug abuse etc.

if u like pvp with some pve elements with amazing graphics, the ability to have fly/glide with wings, and something different, try aion, its worth the try.

if u like a game that's proven, withstood the test of time, pve based with pvp elements, a dated graphics engine but stands its own, but plenty of content to explore, try wow or stay with wow.

and yes ill be playing aion, wow is repetitive in my eyes, ex-hardcore raider.

Aion is more dynamic plain and simple.. Aion has open world PVP that WOW could have developed but didnt. Aion has contested Boss fights not only against the opposing faction but even contested within the same faction.. which gives you more of a sense of the older EQ1 style game.. People will say ohh and it has flight as if flight is an  afterthought.. IT ISNT... flight in Aion is more than a way of travel. HUGE areas of gamespace are designed around flight in mind for tactical situations. Even in gathering resources for crafting. The flight timer adds a sense of urgency, when you are using flight for different issues. Combat is more intense not only with better animations but more reactive abilities.

So how is it different than WOW.. sure I could go on about the better graphics superior art style etc etc.. but there is no need to the screenshots and videos you can watch will speak for themself... But Aion is superior, more intense, more dynamic on pretty much every level.

The only thing I will say WOW is probably better on is the way they handlded starting areas... Early character development in Aion could have been more spread out...

You will see on these forums people complaining about Aion being to linear.. It is the one argument at least in early levels that does hold merit..HOWEVER most of those people did not get to the higher levels.. in the 20s and especially the 30s the game starts to really open up.. Yes there still is a story line (which is actually a good thing) but you get alot more choices on where you wish to do your gaming and you no longer feel like your being herded thru the game. But it takes time to get to that point. WOW on the other hand gives you more choices early on.

ONE LAST THING... Aion promotes groupplay... which is what MMOS should be about.. WOW promotes powerleveling solo..which allows for most the dumbasses you meet in WOW who dont know how to work with a group...
