Elyos or Asmodian?

I picked Elyos. I'm not a lore nerd for this game or anything, but I don't recall either side being the "bad guys," so it's really not a good versus bad thing, more of a light versus dark thing. I chose Elyos, because I do like sunnier environments than dark environments. Plus I wouldn't want claws in real life, so why would I in a game? It's ugly as hell, to be honest. Blue skin too? Yuck!

However, the black wings are cooler than white wings and the red eyes are cool, but neither is significant enough to make me roll Asmo. To all those saying they're rolling Asmo due to friends, and that they were forced too, I call bullshit. My guild, TOG, chose to roll Asmo, so I can't join them in this game. It shows that people have choices. Your friends may play one race, but that doesn't mean you have to. You'll always meet new friends. Grow a backbone and play the race you really want to.

...and joining you will be the thousands of other insecure xeno/homophobes that think Elyos are "gay" because they have white wings and sunlight!
I hate to get into stereotypes, but man you just filled one.  I know I don't understand the context of what some guy said on vent; I wasn't there.  However, the guy stated a very plain and clear fact which is that Elyos do look "angelic".  I mean, is someone on the opposite end going to get offended when their asmodian toon is called "demonic"?  Oh, naw, because clearly that's acceptable and cool.  Frankly, I'm sooo glad that I'm beyond an age of being insecure and wrapped up in what someone else might think of me if I play the lighter, cheerier side of things because if not, I might let my experience be ruined by the rampant immaturity on the asmodian side, too.

i see his point and it has nothing to do with "white wings and sunlight" the male elyos scout stands like a pregnant woman. it has nothing to do with being insecure either, if my character is standing like that, kinda looses the immersion that he's some killing machine at war.

and thats my point. the way they stand around and whatnot, just not my thing. if its your thats great, enjoy it, i'm not trying to change your mind. i could give a shit what someone thinks of me, and to be honest i'm only playing this game because my pregnant wife was a little down that she wont be able to do much other then play a game for the next 7 months, so I said I'd join her. and she thinks the whole cheery white winged sun bathed elyos is kinda gay looking herself, go figure ... she likes to make disfigured troll looking characters o_O  Frankly, I love people who whine about what someone says and thinks of themselves as any better then the other person.. so mature! +2 Great Job!

Really, this thread wasn't made to make dispute over looks. Lol, both races look according to the culture and lore the developers made for them, so if you preffer to look dark and demonic or light and angelic is really a prefference. Either way I don't care, I am just rolling Elyos for the more mature community, which I can attest to cause I leveled characters on both Asmodian and Elyos sides during beta.

Admittedly, I've just about dropped the level of my posts down to troll-mode.  I'm bored, it's fun, and I'm not really stepping on anyone's nuts here, just picking at my future competition.  I know that there's plenty of folks playing asmos because it's just their preference, be it the zones, the eyes, the claws, the flips, the black wings, or even the music.  It's still fun to mess with them... a little forum PVP imo.  Besides, you're calling my race fruity and gay.  Just wait til you see my pompoms and taunts.  Talk about camp.

That said, a large portion of my opinions on the races is based on what I experienced in the beta, and what I've seen from players on both sides in the forums here and elsewhere.  There's no doubt both sides will have their fair share of jerks/kids/asshats, it's just that in my experience, I've already seen far more swaying towards asmo.  Thankfully, even without that perception, elyos would still be my choice for the fact that they are underpopulated, I don't like the darkness of the asmo side (I'll be avoiding the sun enough already just by playing), and overall while I think they stick a bit more to conventional looks, I really prefer how awesome the characters can look in their details which are hidden as asmodian by their tattered, glowing, pointy armor and black-as-night wings.

Edit: As a side note, another one of my favorite things about elyos is how they lend themselves to tongue-in-cheek humor.  I don't think my character's gay for cheering with pompoms or flailing like a girl when he taunts.  Looks more like mockery of my enemies to me.  I mean, male elyos even pick their nose, inspect it, and flick it when you /sleep and lay on your floating cloud.  The asmodian side is just entirely too serious all the way through for me.  Seemed worth noting on this post.

The marketing is interesting too. If you look at the pages in the manual (I have my copy already), for the Elyos, it's a male in full plate heavy armor with a really big axe, but he looks maybe 17. For the Asmodians, it's a female with the expected amount of cleavage showing, and sporting those ridiculous shoulder blade armor pieces. The picture shows neither the clawed feet, nor the back hair-ridge.  Which is more likely to attract the teen male audience? (Note I am aware there is a larger audience, but the male teen demographic is a sizable chunk of any MMO population.)

If I was stereotyping the two factions, I'd have reversed the gender of the sample characters - Elyos an angelic female, Asmo a rugged male. Maybe that's why I'm not in marketing.

Elyos, I really thought the back hair and claws looked stupid.   As far as rudeness in chat, I didnt see much of a difference in beta.  No matter which side has more overall, both sides will have days when they are outnumbered, thats just the way it happens.

Dont whine when you are faced with numbers people, Adapt, Improvise, Overcome....cause its gonna happen.

When I said i had "time", i meant virtual time, i got no RL "time" for you.

Been in since CB3, and have played Asmo the whole time, and had plans to roll Asmo..

Logged in for the preselect, and a good number of servers had Asmo locked up.

Took me all of three seconds to switch to Ely.. I like a target rich enviorment, and hate waiting when i want to play. As someone said already, you can make a pretty mean looking Elyos if you try..

I could have waited, as i figured the Asmo side would open up soon enough, but i'd much rather play on the underdog side. Especially if the game has a balancing factor (Balaur) in case things get too out of hand.

One of each, both named Ender :)

I like the fact that there's not really an "evil" and a "good" side, there's just two opposing sides, although too many people ignorantly assume otherwise.

The reason I picked Asmo was I usually play the "good" side on an MMO. The only thing that makes Elyos look gay is the unicorn on the Assassins shoulder in the selection screen (you can do skin transfers of items so it doesn't matter although many people might not know this). Actually..Elyos seem to have more detail to be honest and if you go into the char creation you can make their skin black which I like and also this deep red color which blows any of the Asmo skin colors out of the water imo.

Given the current 75 votes and 54. 7% Elyos vs. 45.3% Asmodian, the 95% Wald confidence interval for the population proportion for Elyos is (0.447,0.646).  Since 0.5 is contained in this interval, there is insufficient evidence to conclude that the proportion of people playing one faction is greater than the other. However, there are issues with sampling bias given the way the poll was conducted.

Honestly i was going to play asmodian at first, but i think in gonna go with Elyos since I didn't get a chance to play them during beta.

Asmodians do like pretty savage/badass, but I also think Elyos look really noble decked out in armor, so im happy with them.

Yah true, this was not the most unbiased poll. :P

I picked Elyos cause I had a hunch feeling that the majority would take Asmodians.  And I was proven right so far when their pre-selection server status had Asmodians locked on just about every server for creation because they had too many.

I didn't like the clawed feet or the way the characters moved in Asmo. Too barren of a landscape for me too.

    Elyos

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
