heard about the recent mob hp buff, ability being nerf, and exp nerf. Also read about how quest is running dry or is too difficult, and people have to resolve to grinding.
So overall, is this game solo unfriendly? Will I have problem solo questing and not die alot?

If you're lucky and pick the right powers you'll be fine. Just don't expect to get it right away. If you don't build your character right, you will not be able to soloing anything past lvl10. What I mean to say, is if you wait too long to pick up defensive powers you're screwed. If you pick them up too early, it takes too long to kill anything.
Just hope that the kind of power set you want to play is able to solo. The power sets that appealed most to me were extremely gimped. I bought the game, got ot lvl17 and couldn't take the monotony anymore. Got very boring for me. To each his own though. Some people say this is the WoW Killer (Horkathane). But in my opinion its just a CoX v2.

Build your character with solo play in mind and you won't have any problem. Groups are easy to find though, and the current community is pretty friendly and helpful, but I totally understand the need/desire to play solo at times.

For all of my characters I pretty much just grab a Defensive passive. So for now you can solo til they decide to nerf all the passives. Only a matter of time hehe
If you speed lvl up it gets really un solo friendly. Kill alot more stuff than you need to complete the mission and you can stay like one level ahead most of the time.

Wrong. City of Heroes was just as easy if not easier to solo with a strong build. However, grouping was WAYYYYY more popular in that MMO because you could turn up difficulty and watch XP swim in. So people that grouped leveled like 5x -> 6x faster. I'm not exaqggerating

Actually that feature IS in Champions, the larger your grup the more xp, drops, and mobs you're supposed to get (of course its pointless to group when to many of the quests aren't group friendly thankfully its only what week 3 and they're working on fixing that..impatient people are the less educated people shame really)...The reason beyond that is so piss poorly defined no one bothers to group outside of open missions and the high end dungeons like Dr. destroyers (which is a 5 man and damn hard if not impossible to beat without 5 people). I'm hard presed to believe anyone can beat Dr. Destroyer or his Robot both legendary level mobs solo...we couldnt' even take 1 of them with a 5 man..course most of us were under the recommended level for the dungeon.
Pretty easy to solo in this game as long as you make sure to take a passive and get powers to compliment your build. Melee characters without a pull or lunge ability can be very painful to play since mobs will kite you.
Like a previous poster mentioned you get more xp if you group however i believe far fewer people do it in CO than CoX because the majority of xp in this game is given as quest rewards and not through grinding. I am only 35 now but i leveled easily just soloing missions, except for the gap at 31 to 32
I agree with most the posts here. It is pretty easy to solo in this game. If you fall behind on quests, you can always do Open Missions (OM) or PvP in Hero Games. Once you get a hang of the powers, it is pretty easy to make a well balanced character.
I strongly recommend you dont specialize in just two attributes though. Most people that are having problem go pure dps (typical in all MMORPGs), with killer Dex, Int and Ego. You can be far more effective if you spread points also into con, end, and recovery. Also, avenger dps stance is nerf mode. Stay in Guardian and you will solo easily.
As of today's Sept 19 patch I would have to say NO to it being solo friendly. 3 of my mid level 15 toons are being killed by 2 hechmen fights in MC. Where yesterday they could kill them. Do not know about level 5 to 14 toons in desert or Canada zones yet but will say the only way to fight NPCs in MC zone as of today is to full 5 man group up.

CO is so solo friendly that you can't even call it a MMO. If you replace everyone in this game with bots most players wouldn't even notice the difference. The community aspect of this game is virtualy zero.

Well in defense of the "impatient, uneducated" having 10 quest lines or storys the actually requires groups doesn't make this a group oriented game... This game should be more solo friendly then group friendly... but overall with the way they're managing their content (or content gaps) and the flow of XP, if you aren't willing to do every possible mission and then some you may run into a forced grouping problem to progress. Just throwing Dr.Destroyers lab in there or Rhinoplasty saying "good luck" because they are virtually impossible to beat without a group doesn't mean the game is group oriented. It just means less then 20 percent (and I'm being generous here) of mission content is group content.

It is not sufficient to have a few high level missions requiring a team, it should be encouraged from level 1 (altough soloing needs to have its place as well, which it does in many MMORPGs).
Look at CoX for example, the moment you exit the tutorial it is immediately easier to team up and do instanced missions than to do them solo, even though you can do both.
In CO I really dont see a reason to team up, atleast not at the lower levels. I get about the same exp flow soloing so why go through all the hassle of trying to find a team (and try to keep it intact) if you dont gain much from it?
Cryptic second highest priority (after adding villains and more PvP) should be to encourage more teamplay. If not this game will dwindle down to obscurity as it makes no sense for the game to be an MMORPG in its current state.

So because you have to team up to run a few (probably what 4 at the most) of the games Liars its suddenly not a solo only MMO? Thats comical and you have the nerve to call somoene 'uneducated'?....

Sucks really this game has so much potential, but I be dammed if im going to sit around and pay a montly fee and wait untill the Developers realized where they screwed up at to reach that potential.

I never said the game was group oriented but people talk out their ass as if there is NO group content that everything is soloable when its not the truth. They could of done groups better from the begining and are trying to rectify it but honestly unless they start encouraging grouping better at lower levels it never really matters much until you readh about level 28. Honestly I'mg lad there's no major group requirements for alot of it .. if the game played like a Raid Game I wouldnt' want to play. I can be a super hero and kick ass solo which makes sense but then there's bigger badder mobs that need a group and I can participate in taking those down if I want to at my own pace which is nice.

I will concede that there is some group content... but you are correct in saying this game shouldn't have much group content... superhero games should revolve a lot around your character being heroic. You aren't heroic if you have to run for help to face a boss or enemy. 1 major group boss at the end of an arc would be nice... but overall the game should have had a little more to do with skill (like player skill not skill-based) which probably would have been a little more accessible to the genre instead of a hybrid... but thats neither here nor there.
Yes the game have some... very minor... group instances, even if you count the unity missions.. .I also think they needed to up the difficulty and expand the nemesis 10 fold... but.... alas... it is what it is.
EXP nerf was not a nerf. They upped the EXP in Beta to make leveling faster. They lowered it for launch and I find the quest progression awesome. I have yet to have to gind or go looking for grey quests.
Mob soloing nerf was not a nerf. The path that just balanced some powers that were "WAY" over powered, were balanced. Was to the point everyone who had AE in PvP was "land mines" etc etc. Well by mistake they changed the powers and abilities of NPC mobs. They were not taking into account for people not being fully dressed at level 11 and under. So people were dieing left and right. That was fixed that same night.
I have soloed 5 different power lines with different defensive powers and find it fun. Before the change launch day I could play with my eyes closed killing 2-3 teams at a time. Now I can do 1-2 teams sometimes 3 teams of NPC's using skill. This game is a gem in the rough. For where they are at launch vs other MMO's I have played at launch. They show the MOST potential I have seen since EQ1 started MMO's and WoW started quest based leveling. People need to stop comparing newly launched MMO vs games that have been out 2,3,5 years.
I will be here for the next 3-5 years or more! If ya don't try it now I would make sure you did in 5-6 months or you missing something very unique and fun. Nemesis system ROCKS and lots of cool things in the pipe line coming for that system. Designing your own classes rocks. Never have to say "this class needs a snare" "this class needs a heal" you just add it. Sorry for the long post but don't miss out because of cry babies who like to bash a good game just to go back to the WoW grind!
You can play CO either way..solo or in group. To say there no group content or to it is too group orienated is just not accurate in any case. You play the game how you wish to play it. The only shortcoming at the moment is that there are gaps in the quests that force you to grind for xp in order to level OR force you to attempt to take on missions several levels above your own. I am sure that shortcoming will be addresed soon. (It is one reason I hate XP driven games)
