At first I felt it was a waste.  I'd get tons of smiles, start to talk to them and not joking but I'd say 90% of the women were single mothers who were separated or divorced.  Another very annoying factor was the women who would put up a picture that was from 10 years ago.  The webpage at the time was split into three sections,  Friendship, Relationship, and Intimate Encounters (basically sex).  I'd recommend browsing all three because some woman post profiles in each with different information.
For example one girl I conversed with daily who wanted to set up a date I learned also had a profile in the intimate encounters.  I went and found that after having set up a time to meet me was still asking for dates there, which included girls...  I sent a smile to her profile on that profile to let her know I'd seen it and she immediately stopped all communication lol.
Can't complain that much.  I met my wife on lavalife  :D

I met my husband on lavalife as well, so I can't complain :). I tried e-Harmony during one of their free week things many, many years ago, and I got some good responses initially, but then it stopped suddenly... and I realized that they purposefully (and secretly) blocked me from communicating with the people during the free trial part in order to get you to pay to continue conversing with matches.

I am sorry Moonlight, I am sure you have alot of great things to say and am glad you are active on the forums, but I will have to block your posts due to your signature. I can't stand those graphix.. like to the point I want to rip their anime arms and legs off like lego people.  Just as my red text makes some peoples eyes bleed, anime graphix give me a headache and makes me violent.

I am sure your a great person, and this is in no way anything against you.. it is me .. I have issues with anime.. make me nausiated even.

Have fun, but I will not be able to read your posts. If you are addressing me someone is going to  have to quote you for me to see it.

You can turn sigs off in your profile.

    Facethejury.com

Most of my friends are on there. I've met a lot of chill people on there and made lots of friends. Currently, one of my best buds is dating a girl who I met there. Me and her are friends, but I introduced them.

There are people who are fakes, but you can tell. Completely free by the way. I go mainly for the forums though. Too young to be tied down.

edit* Also I have hooked up with many girls I met from there. It's whatever. I have no problems with it.

I began to suspect Lavalife was doing some odd things too.  I would get smiles from people which indicates they're interested so I'd send a smile back and then email them.  I'd find out they never sent a smile it was lavalife doing it making me think people were interested so I'd spend my money sending emails.

My picture was used for a dating advertisement on facebook once...other than that, no, i have no connection with any dating websites.

Met my wife on Eharmony years ago when it started.  We ended up in a bunch of their commercials when they used real people on the plain white stage.  Not so sure anymore with the new slicker campagn.

If the site is free, take it with a grain of salt.  Its no better than happy hour=)  But if you have to spend 2 hours or more setting up a profile and have to take a psychology test, AND pass just to be accepted, and pay a fee, its legit.  I had a freind who failed the test because his answers were too conflicting...since he was a little whacked, I wasn't surprised.  They denied him.  Eharmony is for real.  You'll still find your jokers I'm sure, but everyone I met on there was serious.   I fully endorse it.

I have had great luck online dating. Only ever tried it in the last year. Used OKCupid. Met a lot of nice girls, several that were potentially serious.

but here is my advice and reason for posting - don't meet anyone too easily. I ignored 7 out of 10 emails I got just based on some red flag in their profile.

At this point just seeing one girl I met off OKCupid. Strangely, her best friend was my lab partner in high school. Stranger given that I went to HS in TN and she is from Conn. She also lives on my block, though that is not as strange as I live in a densely populated 'hip' hood.

but what do you have to loose?

As my mom always said "Use a condom and its all fun until someone puts an eye out."

    Iggy Pop?

I'm willing to try anything once but you'll have to give me some pointers.  I'm old and slow.

Hope you don't mean ignore.. why would I do that?  I pretty much like everyone on this board.  If I didn't I wouldn't post here : )

Ummm...not sure if this is going to make it through as I just created my account (haven't received an activation e-mail yet though...<shrugs>), anyhow, I've been reading through forums here for awhile but never bothered registering as I never really ran across anything worth responding to, but thought this was worth it. I haven't had much success with finding dates online (a few dates, but mostly through random encounters on boards not through dating sites). I have, however, run across a couple of sites dedicated to matching up people who are into MMORPG's, the only one I've registered on so far is mmo-love<dot>com, but no luck yet...it doesn't look like very many people have registered yet, but figured it's worth a shot. I'll probably give some other sites a shot if this one doesn't pan out. Also, I've heard of PlentyofFish<dot>com, but haven't tried it out yet either. Ah, forgot to mention, I've never tried any of the "pay" sites, the two I mentioned are free. Just doesn't seem worth paying to register for dating sites.

Has anyone else forgotten how to write in cursive?

My dating site is called a role of 1 dollars rapped in a 100 dollars bill...works wonders.

I met my wife in an MMO. We met when there was a new patch in the MMO we had played and we were guildmates. We were trying out the new fashion and suddenly we both just want to take screenshots and after the end of the day we asked each other if we can meet up. I won't ever forget about that MMO game which made me think that MMO's are really like dating sites but more fun and interesting. :)
