Asmodian Starting Area Guide

Or "how I learned to stop worrying and love the newb area"...

EDIT: (Thanks, Villyn) This is just a new player guide that streamlines all of the newb area quests, and how to complete them as efficiently and quickly as possible. Once you have enough money not to worry about drops and making money as a new character, you can bypass many of these quests and simply reach level 9 as fast as possible.

I haven't played Elyos enough to write them a guide, but the quests are extremely similar.

PART 1: WAKING UP & USEFUL TIPS

Welcome to Aion. Before we begin, let's spend some time covering the stuff that is not covered in the tutorial, and get your action bar set up.

- Firstly, you cannot speak in local chat until level 5. So you're stuck with me.
- The tutorial does not cover how to rest. You can either add a button to your action bar or press the comma key "," to rest and quickly regain health and mana.
- Toggle run and walk with the period key, "."
- To add buttons for emotes, skills, and actions, click your menu button and select the "actions" tab. I recommend adding buttons for rest and toggle combat.
- You have two rows of skills, and the bars can be unlocked and locked with the button on the left. Read the skill descriptions and order them comfortably.
- Make sure that your "return" button (equivalent to hearthstone in WoW) is somewhere where you will not click it accidentally.
- I suggest going into options and changing the system voice gender to the -opposite- gender of your character. That way you don't get confused between your character noises and important system messages. There are many voice options.
- Newb zones are instanced. You can change your instance via the system menu > change channel. If there are too few or two many people where you are, just change channels.
- When you are level 5 and can speak, you are automatically in two channels (/4 and /5) for your potential ascended classes. These are for class and skill discussion and help. For instance, if you're a level 7 Priest, you can ask Chanter questions in channel 5 and Cleric questions in channel 4.

Let's get started!

Now, we're set to go and we have completed the Aion tutorial. Get your first quest to speak to an NPC, and then the second, to go kill some low level mobs.

- If you want to grind, stick to humanoid mobs (not bugs). Common sense - most weapons are dropped by things that carry weapons, etc.
- Any quest item can be marked on the map through the quest dialogue. The client will give you an arrow to the mob, NPC, or location. Just click the link and press "locate".
- Collect enough flowers right away to get your collection skill to at least 5. You need to keep this skill up. By the end of the newb area, you will need a skill of 15 to complete quests.
- Once you complete the first two quests, I suggest grinding at least close to level 3. You'll be close after turning in the quest.
- Then, go on to the next quest in the chain, which is to collect fruit baskets. Again, while you're doing this, it doesn't hurt to grind a little bit just to get some more money and items. I usually get to Adelle Village at or close to level 4.
- Finish the Sparkle killing quest and you will be sent on to Adelle Village.

PART 2: ADELLE VILLAGE

Here are the things you want to do in Adelle Village
- Turn in your quest.
- Speak to the skill trainer to complete a minor quest and buy your first skill manual
- At the same time, click the "sell" tab, and sell all your junk items (there is a button to do this). At this point, you have a little bit of cash.
- If you have over 1200 money, speak to the Cube Artisan and increase your inventory space right away. If not, do this as soon as possible.
- Now, run around Adelle and get -all- the quests you can.
- Now it's time to go to the Lake.

PART 3: LAKE TUNAPRE

- You have five collect/kill quests to do here. You got four in Adelle Village, and you will get one more at the Dock next to the lake. The first thing you should do is go to the Dock and get the last quest. Now, run around the lake and complete all the quests at once. That way you don't have to wait for mobs. --Do not enter the Munihele forest yet.--
- In the Lake Tunapre area, the Airon's will also drop a scroll that starts the quest "Return to Sender". Basically, it's a love letter to Ulgorn from one of the other NPC's that you return first to him, and then to the original author Linevir (the soul healer).
- When the quests are all complete, turn them in at the Docks and Adelle Village. This will give you two more quests: one in the village, and a simple one at the docks.
- Remember to sort your inventory using the "sort" button.
- Go back to Adelle to turn in your last quest for the Lake. Sell all junk at the vendor. Now, we're going to do the quest, "Idle Hands" that sends you into the Forest, as well as the "Search for Rae".
- You should have a few "non-starting" items from quests or drops now. Change out your gear and put some low level manastones in the new stuff. They are pretty self explanatory. Save the rest of them for later gear.
- Buy your skills up to your current level and one level beyond.
- Now, we're going to run past Lake Tunapre to the Forest.

PART 4: MUNIHELE FOREST

- Run to the quest NPCs (they are close to the entrance). Turn in your quests. Get all the quests they have to offer and update "Search for Rae". In your quest menu, select "Search for Rae" and select "locate" the Witch.
- Run over to the witch, killing quest mobs and collecting flowers on the way. Remember to keep your collection skill up!
- Speak to the Witch and accept her quest. Now you have yet another kind of mob to kill in the area, Daru. Be warned, they are your first linking enemy.
- Keep killing mobs for your quests. Return to the witch when you've killed enough Daru.
- The witch will send you to gather a mushroom spore pouch (they grow all over the forest, but there will be one very close to your house). This is momentarily place a status effect on you. When it has cleared, return to the witch and enjoy the cutscene.
- When the cutscene is over, talk to the witch to complete the quest. The solution to the puzzle should be self-explanatory...
- Finish the rest of your kill/collect quests. There is a random mob drop that will start another quest in the area, which involves running to a nearby spring and pulling an axe from a tree. I would suggest trying to do this, but I'm not sure what the drop rate is. I do know that Daru drop the scroll that starts the quest.
- When all your quests in the Forest are done, return to the quest givers at the entrance. Receive your rewards. Now, you have two options. You can just Return to Adelle Village, or you can run out of the forest to the next area, Antoon Crossing. Either way, you're going to have to go to both to turn in the Rae quest and move to the next area. There's a flight path between the two.

PART 5: ANTWON CROSSING & PIRATE SHIP

- This is the first area where mobs aggro. Watch your screen for red dots!
- You're going to have to travel between Adelle and Antwon to turn in quests. Take the opportunity to upgrade / manastone your gear, and buy new skills.
- Get all the quests at Antwon. Don't put them into your quickview yet. You'll do them in groups.
- Reset your Soul Binding for Antwon!!!!
- Now. There are basically --three zones-- left in the newb area. You will want to complete the areas one by one.
--> The first is the area around Antwon, including the Pirate ship. To find the pirate ship, just turn around in circles next to the quest giver until you see sails. Once you see it, you'll #### bricks. It is very close by.
--> The second is Ishalgen Prion Camp and the graveyard.
--> The last is the Mau encampment, Odella Plantation (and the Vine Cave behind it)
- The first quests I suggest you complete are the ones right next to Antwon Crossing. Kill Brax (not Braxies), Karnifs, and the pirates closest to the Crossing (to get their Log Book drop) until you complete the first three quests in the immediate area. Return to Antwon and get your rewards.
- Sell your items, and make sure you're buffed. You're going after the Treasure Map on the Pirate Ship. If you're not a priest or tank, I recommend partying for this if you're under level 8. The pirates link badly.
- Head to the pirate ship. Fight your way through the pirates carefully, they have a long aggro and link range. The map is actually on board - it vanishes when somebody collects it, and it has a reasonable respawn rate in the same location. You may have to wait a couple minutes and fight pirates on-board whilst waiting for it to reappear.
- Once you have collected the map, fight or Return to Antwon Crossing. You will receive a quest to retrieve the "Black Opal". This gives you your first wearable neck item, so its well worth it. The Opal is right next to Antwon in the Karnif's cave. You'll have to fight your first minor boss to make the treasure chest appear. Again, a party is recommended. When you return to Antwon with the item, you will receive the "Treasure Hunter" title. Wearing this will give you a stat bonus.
- Now, you have a choice. You can head to Ishalgen Prison Camp, or the Mau encampment. I heartily recommend that you complete the Ishalgen quests, first. Odella Plantation can get overwhelming, and you at least have a safe road to rest on in the Prison Camp / Graveyard.

PART 6: ISHALGEN PRISON CAMP / GRAVEYARD

- This should be old hat by now. Kill, collect. Ghosts aggro, and they can also stealth (irrtating). There is a random Ghost drop that unlocks a simple collection quest for the jailer (otherwise known as Crypto) with a decent reward.
- After completing your first round of quests, you will finally speak to the imprisoned Daeva, Munin. He will give you a simple quest to kill Sparkles. Do this. Return, and he will also offer you a quest called "The Imprisoned Gourmet". There are three ways to complete the Gourmet quest, but the best reward is his hat, which you receive for bringing him a Ginseng root, which is a drop in the Mau Encampment. So, at this point, once all your other Ishalgen quests are done, return to Antwon Crossing and get ready for the Mau / Odella Plantation quests.

PART 7: ODELLA PLANTATION

- Again, get all the quests you can from the Antwon and Mau Encampment NPCs. You really want to do these all at once, too. There is tons of aggro in the Encampment, and you don't want to run back and forth too much. Look Looks on the ground and Highsitters in the watchtowers will aggro, as will the Stalkers and Scratchers. Farmers link. A lot.
- Again, this should be old hat. Kill and collect. For the ore, watch the canyon walls for black rocks. You collect ore just like flowers. (This is why we've been picking flowers this whole time, the required Gathering skill is 15!)
- If you find your collection items bugged (clicking on them does nothing), try changing channels to fix the bug. If that doesn't work, you need to relog.
- If you're running out of Scratchers and Stalkers, head towards the Vine Cave (the first road to your left as you are entering Odella Plantation).

PART 8: WHEN YOU HIT LEVEL 9

- The Ascension quest experience will take you just about the full length of level 9-10. Your level will also be capped pre-ascension, so I suggest when you hit a bit over 9, you stop what you are doing, and go do the Daeva quest. Its just a lot of running around.
- When you finish the quest and Munin's cutscene is over, don't select the option to leave the newb area, yet. Stick around and finish any remaining Mau Encampment quests, and then begin the final Rae quest. You can't Locate her in this case, but she is deep in the Mau area, in the Vine Cave, past the quest NPC. You probably want to party for the two quests in that area. It is the most difficult part of the training area.
- You can return to the newb area after Ascension, but you can't collect stuff (like iron ore).

In the Lake Tunapre area, the Airon's will also drop a scroll for the quest "Return to Sender".  Basically it's a love letter to Ulgorn from one of the other NPC's that your return first to him and then to the original author Linevir (the soul healer).

I've done it on all my open and closed beta chars and drop rate seems to be about 1 in 10 or maybe like 1 in 15.  I could have just maybe been lucky though.

I think a big one was missed, The minute you ding 9 you get the Ascension quest, as one of the last steps the dude in the sphere will port you to Pand. folowing the quest, talk to 1 person then the class change cerimony and it will give you all the exp needed to ding 10... so actually you get a free lvl, lvl 9. I ding'd 9 i did the entire quest, took me to 9 1/4 so actually 3/4 lvl..... also the newb area is newb area, so if you wanna class change the fastest, Do the Campaign Quests only and grind if you need a lvl to adavance to next step( it goes fast). I had to grind for a total of 1 hour from 1-10.

    Hope this may help...

Dude in the sphere is Munin....

The only real grind I did was the last 8,000 or so exp before 9.  Other than that quests and campaigns go the fastest, grinding is built into the questing and I would recommend killing one or two extra of whatever animal you have to kill for a quest.  These are more than sufficient to get you the exp you need.

BTW leveling Elyos was much easier.

This is all correct. I'm trying to cover all the possible quests and how to complete them the fastest. But the alternative, as you say, is just to do only campaign quests until you can talk to Munin, skip everything else, and ascend immediately when you turn 9.

However, you miss out on a lot of gear and money doing this on your first character. After that it doesn't matter so much.

Agreed. I only suggest grinding a bit at certain points to make money and get weapon/armor drops.

The drop rate for the Daru axe seems to vary.  On one character, i go it off the second kill.  On my last one, it took me probably 30 kills lol.  Either way, I had to do it, because it was the only quest I was missin in that area.

Remember to say no to the first two axes until the last one.  Also, when the map tells you to go to the lake, you're looking for an axe.  It's easy to miss, because it's on a tree and at certain angles are almost invisible.

    Good guide OP!
