I was waiting for AION, but after playing in the betas, it just wasnt for me. Anyone know what the next big MMO is supose to be? I dont like sci-fi etc, I prefer more fantasy kinda like EQ/War/WoW/AoC etc. Thanks!

There isn't one on the horizon. The next big things are Aion and SW:TOR... but you don't like Aion or Sci-Fi.

The Star Wars MMO is more of a single player game than anything, not worth really mentioning as an MMORPG.
Only other big games are Fallen Earth, Darkfall, and... that's about it.
Darkfall Travelogues!
Although I hated the first one, Guild Wars 2 will probably be big in its own way. Over all though? SWTOR.

I know.... The more I hear and see on SWTOR, the less enthused I get. Makes me a sad panda.

Yes, a game with an open world, pvp, grouping, end game, classes, progression, socializing, crafting, multiple locations (in this case, planets) make this game a single player.
Big games, fallen earth and darkfall? LOL
But yeah, pretty much everyone I know thinks the game looks like it has more Single Player aspects to it than MMORPG aspects.... including myself. It doesn't help that the company that's releasing it, has created some pretty damn good SINGLE player games, but no MMORPGs. There is a such thing as MORPGs, you know. Look at GW.
Idk about Darkfall, dead game is dying.... but FE may not be a "big game" when compared to giants, but I guarantee that in a year each one of the devs will be making more per month than you will cumulatively make in your entire life. While, it may not be a giant, it does fit the description of "big".

Again, SWTOR not really an MMO
Bioware makes great single player games.
They have never made multiplayer games before.
The people making the game said that 95% of the gameplay is soloable. The game is heavily story driven, therefore, instanced. When instances are present for the majority of the game (or any of it) the world is no long considered open. So, NPC parties, instances, story driven content... it's going to be a singleplayer game, with a little hub or two that you can interact with other people in.
and lastly...
end game, classes, progression, crafting?
First off, end game is a BAD thing that shouldn't be in MMOs.
Classes, progression, and crafting, are all GAME aspects, and have nothing to do with anything being an MMO or not.
And yes, for people who aren't so happy to drink up more WoW clone slop, Fallen Earth and Darkfall are big games to watch.
As for Darkfall dying, considering its about to get its SECOND free expansion, and its opened a new server... yeah, doesn't sound like a dead game even a little.
Darkfall Travelogues!
I think you overestimate the profit margins of an MMO.

I'm happy that you got into SW:TOR Beta, please tell me you as much as you can without breaking the NDA.

Heh, not really. It was mean to be a discreet insult, lol.
They will be wealthy, easily multi-millionairs if they keep their footing, though.

you are right we should get a head start on hyping up or bashing a game we know nothing about. Count me in

It's only flaming if you felt insulted, did you? Grow some thicker skin.
Awesome, your friends are entitled to their opinions, same for you. I however disagree, and I'm not disagreeing because "I" think it will be an MMO, I'm just going by the information that has been released, if they do fail to deliver then I will gladly state my opinion in the future, which may or may not change. But as of now, I'm going with released information.
As I said in this very thread, I disliked guild wars, to damn instanced, felt bland, to me. I knew before hand it would be this way. ToR on the other hand does not give me that impression, information aside. But hey, at least its a game offering enjoyable Co-operative play (co-op is not restricted to a hand full of people) unlike most MMOs to date.
Another thing, indeed BioWare games are all Single player, but is thateven a reason for doubt? Blizzards first MMO was WoW, and it seem's that MMO is currently the most popular (even if you disagree or not). But yeah man, hold on to that opinion, that way it's a surprise when it gets changed.

So, you know nothing more than what Bioware has chosen to tell you and you leap to conclusions about a game that is still in development and will not be seen for another year. Congratulations.
I suppose you could look at the top voted list to see.
Games coming out Soon(TM) that I have my eye on:
APB: mmofps.
Mortal Online: niche of a niche of a niche sandbox game. (Seriously if tells are sent by pigeon...wtf)
Alganon: WoW 2010.

Will any by big fantasy games? Nope.
You've got one hell of a wait for the only fantasy-esque big game to come out, Guild Wars 2.

Actually the game has different directions for all players to take, solo players can take their own route and groupers can do the same, it's the players decision on what to do, if people choose to solo that doesn't make the game a solo game. Are you saying BioWare chould FORCE grouping on people? In the end that does nothing but gimp sales.
They already stated the world is open, of coarse it will have some instances, that's to be expected. I'm assuming you think WoW is a single player game right? Atleast know about the game before babbling on, in the end you show your ignorance.

end game, classes, progression, crafting?

That's an opinion. It's an MMO feature, if you wasn't biased you would understand what I was talking about.
Classes, progression, and crafting, are all GAME aspects, and have nothing to do with anything being an MMO or not.
Then please tell me what makes an MMO. I was listing features on top of features.
And yes, for people who aren't so happy to drink up more WoW clone slop, Fallen Earth and Darkfall are big games to watch.
WoW clone is such an over used term, and your probably have no understanding of it's meaning. Fallen Earth and Darkfall, believe it or not fall into a niche selection. They will never be "Big MMOs", but that doesn't make them bad games, they can actaully be great games.

Blizzard did create one of the top selling MORPGs of all time before WoW though. D2 was on the top 100 charts a few years ago too, even though it was released like.... 98? 99? 00? Can't remember exactly too lazy to look it up.
I know they are our opinions, but it really does look like it's going to have alot more single player aspects than it does MMOish aspects. Hopefully, you're right and we are wrong about our opinions. I would love for them to create an absolutely great MMO that brings new things to the MMO table, hence why we have the feeling of it being more single player centered.
But, "because "I" think it will be an MMO, I'm just going by the information that has been released," .... you actually are going by your opinion, they SAY it's an MMO, but GW also SAYS it's an MMO and we all know that's not the case there.... it just has MMOish aspects in a MORPG like D2. We've seen and read the same stuff you have, unless you got some gay relationship going on with someone on the dev team. If that's the case, free beta key? Please? lol
Like Trading Card Games? Click Here.
Hang on guys. In the videos the devs show, outside of the one "flashpoint" Which is made for you and your group only, they only show the one person/class playing. Doesn't this mean that the entire game is just single player right? Since that's all they show? Right?
Really people. I know some people are thick and really stupid, but...lol. The game is not a single player game. You could visit the tor website, see the videos, the interviews, and you would laugh at how dumb you looked thinking this game is single player. They have stated the game will have everything any AAA MMO should have. They have stated, IF YOU WANT TO, you could solo MOST<-----------------(Huge key word here) of the game. Every single MMO out, you could solo to the end level. Sure, you'll miss quests that take groups, but you can do it. They said, there are things at end game that will take groups/Raids.
But no, you're right. It's a single player game, where you meet in a "base" ala guild wars, and do your own thing, no one else can go with.
Rofl.
It was pretty easy to tell how I felt about Guild Wars when the early videos was released, I knew it was not going to really appeal to me, I'll add that I love PvP, and that's GW focus. If you stop, take a look at SWTOR world in the videos you can see how big the world really is. Gay relationship with the dev team? You think they would give me a beta key for that? Seriously, do you? :P
I have an issue with the question, in the fact arnt you gimping yourself in your selection by a mind set hinted at by the question.
I.E whats the next big thing mentality, isnt playing a MMORPG very subjective to YOUR tastes, and just following the herd mentility not only limiting but doomed to failure because of the almost guarnteed disappointment.
To sum up, just say F@@K it, and try whatever tweaks your interest, some are going to be gems in disguise,(my personnel experience with FE, I thought it would be pure rubbish, it wasnt), some are going to be so laughably bad, but at least you will have something to talk about, and some will be MEH, but only through your interaction with them are YOU going to know if they are any good, or suited to your tastes.
One that is a longs ways off and have no idea how its going to turn out is Secert World, if they pull it off could be an intresting game, not listening to the Blah Blah who is making what crap, follow an idea, if it turns out bad leave. There is some funky ideas currently being worked on, just nothing real close.
DONT BAAaaaaaaa Baaa Bleeet Bleet on forums and in games, your a victem waiting to happen as are all members of a flock.
Wow's Cataclysm perhaps?
Star Wars: KOTOR is the big one I, and I believe many others are waiting for.
The Secret World.
WoW and Aion are boring for me. I think Star Wars TOR will beat WoW.
Actually it's Star Wars: TOR.
Actually it's Star Wars: TOR.
I beg your forgiveness.
