Ping from Europe?

nileqnileq Member Posts: 476

So what I read there are only one server in US, right?

Are there any Euros here that can tell me if the server is dead during euro-primetime, and if the lag is a big issue?

Cheers!

Playing from Ireland myself, had no lag whatsoever last evening (around 10-11 PM).

Luckily, our evening hrs are 5-8 hours before the US peak, so server will have a nice stable load of folks for several hours :) well, probably.

My ping to their server is like 100-200ms so it might be caused by the stressed server... it happens often and for me the game is kinda unplayable like this though.

Ping up to 400 is playable for any MMO.

    Up to 200 is good

You wont get under 100 even if a server was located in your bedroom

As for FE, based on my experience in Beta. Pings are quite high for EU people. Its bordering on playable.

PS: Pinging the server would not give accurate measurement. You need to activelly measure connection.

I play from the UK and get zero lag issues normally apart from at peak playing times in cetain busy towns such as Embry, the captital of Sector 1. There have been some problems in the new player areas this week due to a large number of new people entering the game now that the game has been launched officially. That should get better as the new players disperse more widely into the wider world.

The FE people have been collating data on Eoropean connections for a while now in this thread:

    http://forums.fallenearth.com/fallenearth/showthread.php?t=19639

I believe that shows there is no general problem for European players. Most people get sub 140 ms pings. Some of the latest posts complain of laggy play but I think thats because of the overcrowding issue for new players and would apply equally to US players. It was like this at the beginning of the pre-order stage but improved a lot after the first few days.

UK here, only 1 night in game approx 6 hours.

No issues at all, pretty damn good surprisingly so. I suffered no lag or effects of but there was a hell of a lot of people in chat complaining. Not sure if steam might have something to do with it (not a steam fan :p)

I bought the game on Steam, but of course I can't run it through, luckily the workaround is child's play.

Anyway, as I said, no lag for me whatsoever. Could be just luck, who knows :)

You guys, go to your Steam folder, then /steamapps, then find the Fallen earth folder (maybe it's in "common" or sg, I need to check home for full path), anyway, in the game's folder you should find FEUpdater.exe - make a link for this on your desktop, and it will work. Will do a lot of patching initially, but only at first launch.

There is also a Frontend.exe in that folder, you can also use that to join the game without updating - only do this when you are sure your client is updated to the very latest version, otherwise it won't work.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks DB,

Seems Steam/FE is not working correctly, as the whole idea of steam is to keep games updated.

    OK downloading now from Steam.

They (Steam) sent me an email with a Confirmation Number in, is this the key i used to create an FE account on the FE website?

    Update Edit:

This is how to create an account

When installation from Steam is complete, launch Fallen Earth.

Copy the "Fallen Earth" Product Code from the View CD Key menu. Then choose "Launch game".

Choose "Create an Account". You will be prompted to enter your product key from Steam after setting up account information.

Follow the account set-up steps as provided to create your account and link it to a forum account. The Fallen Earth forums include game tips, updates, and common discussion areas for meeting other players.

When account creation is complete, you will be able to launch and play Fallen Earth.

You can find that somewhere on the official forums. Sorry I don't want to make a "google is your friend" post, I don't like them much, but have to save mw the few seconds on the other hand. :D

    Bordering on playable is correct

I played in the beta and had the occasional rubberbanding and warping mobs too. Not always by any means, but when it happened the total lag for the creatures involved was way over 200 ms.

Apart from that, I agree on the 200/400 ms for a conventional MMO. When you introduce FPS elements, it tends to be too much. In Day Of Defeat ( a real FPS) for example, my limits are half of that. Won't log into a server with over 200 ms lag, period.
