I just reactivated my account after 2 years. Yup, I am playing on EU server.
The first message appeared on the chat window was: Your guild has been disbanded. Not a surprise. But It looks like walking in the midnight of a chrismas eve in a remote town.
I also playing DDO Unlimited on US server because it is nearly the same population or least half population when I play DDO 2 years ago. But I questioned if people willing to play some difficult levels (elite), time taking instance, and raid as well?
Besides, the F2P version is even more expensive than P2P monthly fee. I am doubtful if DDO Unlimited would be popular in Europe.

I don't use the EU servers, and the US servers are very busy indeed. F2P isn't that expensive, because you can buy things with points you've earned as well as with points you buy, and you keep those features you unlock forever. I don't subscribe, but if I did stop subscribing to VIP I'd drop down to a Premium account, lose a lot of things such as active character slots (you'd have to choose which 4 would be "active" and the rest would be locked out), shared bank and some races/classes.
I've bought a some points, got 7 characters per server, Monk, Warforged and I'm working towards buying the Shared Bank feature. Thus if I give the game a break for a couple of months, I can just walk straight back in and continue where I left off. If I want content, I'll just unlock it as I need it. I'm quite happy with that, and so, it seems, are a lot of other people.
I also bought a Drow and playing on US server but I found most people still struggling in Khorlos Village.
I though I may have good time again but there is no way to compare with the good old days when DDO just released. Besides, there are many fun instances, I am doubtful if people will buy them. The result still to be the same, no people.
Looks like I still need to choose another new game.
Rather, there are lots of new players struggling on Korthos, which is only to be expected as it's the newbie zone and the game has only been F2P for a very short time. Stormreach is also bustling, but I doubt many of the influx of new players have got much further than that yet.
The game is only more expensive on the F2P side for the initial start up cost to get the things you want. In one year of play you will save money over paying a monthly fee.
The population thing is what worries me. Is this game going to be desolate? Is soloing viable in this game or is a group the end all be all of game tactics and enjoyment?
I play on 3 servers. Most are busy all day long (korthos/stormreach)
I never pay to play a f2p game, so I dunno about the end game premium content.
They do have sales and such for the stuff..from what I've heard.
This.
Also, on my server, it is bustling all day long. It looks very lively.
