There are a series of quests/quest line to build a ATV from the ground up. The finished product is your ATV key. You use the ATV key to research how to build a motorcycle.
He's warning you not to impulse use the ATV key you built otherwise you have to build another to do motorcycle research.
I am hearing a lot about much of the landmass being empty space. I like a large world, but it seems like large tracts of empty desert would be incredibly dull. Say it isn't so!
"There are two great powers, and they've been fighting since time began. Every advance in human life, every scrap of knowledge and wisdom and decency we have has been torn by one side from the teeth of the other. Every little increase in human freedom has been fought over ferociously between those who want us to know more and be wiser and stronger, and those who want us to obey and be humble and submit."

What does this mean? I got a key for a free ATV, is there something wrong with it or does it screw pacing if I don't build one?
I've no idea what he means. I've just started. I've used the key. And I'm greatly enjoying going for a spin.
I'll eventually get a horse though... more suitable for the character I am aiming for.

Exploring does have its place. There are some places not listed on the map where you can do quests and such, especially between S1 and S2.
