Hello, i have just recently been snooping around this game and am very interested. I am looking for a game were me and my bro, who is in college, can run around together and do some wicked fun pvp with a guild and have some good times like the good ole days of SWG(pre-cu). I want personal opinions of this games overall pvp and community experience; from people who have played the game, please and thankyou. Theres a fun poll in it for you =P

It's ok.
The PVP crowd is pretty strong in this game. They have the first expansion already made, most of us are hoping that it's going to cater to the PVP Crowd better. I do know that it will have more PVP Zones, but we are hoping for a little better PVP mechanics. The 3 weapons classes are pretty well balanced and there isn't much bitch from ppl who aren't doing anything more than the standard "QQ I died XXX Sucks YYY is OP! I Don't Suck!" that you see in every game forum.
I do like the system that's in place for taking over towns. It's a combination of PVE and PVP, for it to be effectively done it really takes teamwork. Not a whole lot has gone on so far, just a little squabble here and there. But, I think most people are just worried about leveling up, rather than flexing their muscles.
It's a somewhat unique PVP experience. We killed a guy tonight because he hid in a building to heal, but stood too close to a window and got a headshot from one of our guys on the ground. It's not just that, it's the whole system.

On the PvP note waiting to see the slow boiler builds come up and see how they fair, the people that have gone all out mutations, but yeah having a good experience with the PvP, would like to see it opened out alot more, but believe thats to do witht he sectors later on anyways.
I did quite a bit of PvP today and really loved it. I felt it was very well balanced and it definitely drew me in alot more than say WoW or WAR PvP.
The weapons are all well balanced as far as I've seen - a few could use a buff and a tweak such as grenades - and how you skill your character affects how capable you are in PvP. Obviously if you find or make better weapons you may have an advantage (semi-auto rifle probably better than most crossbows). I had a crafter so was a bit gimped - I don't have huge hp or armor, but still had a blast. The game really gives you a reason to get out into the PvP zones too - early on the zones have really good stuff for crafting - and later it's integral to the faction conflict. I can't imagine anyone not going into the zones for some reason or another on a regular basis. Also the zones are great - some are small and tight - some very big and open - lots of variety.
It took alot more brains that most PvP I've seen in games. I realized early I have to hide my horse - because every time I see a horse or vehicle around a PvP area I know someone is around. I also had to sneak around the npc mobs - because the first time I found another person in the PvP zone it was because he had killed a few mobs and I saw them laying there. You certainly don't go shooting your rifle off just for the heck of it because they will hear you. You generally only see people on your radar when they are making no attempt to sneak around so you never know where someone might be - and you definitely sneak around so that they won't find you. Very tense.
The actual combat was much like Call of Duty for me. Similar feel in my opinion - a bit different but very fitting for the world the game takes place in. Having a real FPS system in an MMO is very cool.
My mouse button is hovering over the buy button on Steam Still not sure though cause I live in the UK and I hear the lag for Europe is bad. If so I guess that makes PVP a little hard?

It depends on what you liked about pre-cu SWG i guess.
If you just want to grind through your levels and get to the end-game (PVP), play that for a month or 2 and move on to the next game, Fallen Earth is pretty decent. It's not a game where people will build up virtual lives and keep playing it for years.
It's also fully combat-centered, crafting is like any WOW-clone, just collect items and click on the recipe to make a generic product, nothing like SWG. It's more like a sub-skill. Players do not really need each other, you won't see non-combat classes like SWG's Ranger, Doctor, Entertainer, etc. here.
So all in all a decent game to grind through for a few months, but no keeper.

Yes, I played through closed beta for a few months. Like I said, thought the game was decent but not good enough to pay for.

Well, I never really got to see Pre-CU in full swing, but almost everyone in my clan is an X-SWG player and they all say this is the closest thing that's ever come out.
The crafting isn't nearly as complicated and sophisticated as SWG, but it's really not comparable to WoW. Sure, there are a few mats you need to farm from killing stuff, but most of them you don't have to kill anything. You have to harvest them, which is more like WoW than SWG, but the crafting itself isn't like WoW. Almost everything in the game can be player made and most of what people wear is. But, there is no item decay and their form of an economic model is pathetic at best.
With that said, it's a new indy game and they probably didn't release it when they wanted to due to financial reasons and it does have a few issues like that, that can be easily fixed in the future. The game is really ready for release, but I'm sure they wanted to put at least another 6months into it if they had the option to. I personally think crafting and the economy will get alot better in the future as they learn from players and expand their game.
Which leads me to my next point, you said "It's not a game where people will build up virtual lives and keep playing it for years." Maybe, that's your opinion, but you said it in a way that generalizes it for the FE population and it's simply not true. The devs have thrown in quite a few unique ideas into the MMO world with FE and the way they plan on keeping the game going is no exception. The game itself is built around the character model of top level being 150, every 3-4 months they will be releasing a new expansion and sector that pushes the level cap up 15 and adds a whole new sector to their already massive world. That's how they are going to keep the game going for years to come and keep people interested at the "end game". It's obvious they formed that idea around EVE, but they put their own little spin on it.
One of the best things about this game, is that almost every single aspect of it has their own unique little spin on it, even if it is minor. Which, combined adds to a pretty unique feeling game imho.
2 Things I Can Guarantee About This Game:
1) It's going to have a very dedicated player base large enough to keep the game alive for many years to come. Just like EVE*.
2) It's going to evolve ALOT over those few years, just as EVE* has.
* I only compare it to EVE in the sense that EVE is the largest niche game on the market right now.

hmmm. I have read that there are pvp ZONES, were there is ffa pvp? I know there is no looting and things like that, fine by me, but i constantly here people talking about lvls. I must have been misinformed because i thought this game was Skill based, as in skill tree or something like UO or the like. So is it a straight lvl model, such as you kill shit and do quests and you get a shiny LVL UP! and then adjust your skills or is it a hybrid or something? If so, it changes my perspective a little, but it wont make me any less interested, even though i do enjoy skill based games more hence far.

The only real benefit that the level 40 would have is the higher HP really.

EDIT: Thats cool. So its not like wow were you pick a class and crafting is on the side. So you lvl and get your hp upgrade with your lvls and gain AP? skill points im guessing, and put them in your skills whether it be crafting or combat or..stuff. Sounds pretty solid too me. I dig it.

APs are like skill points, yes. To level a stat (strength, dex, endurance, etc) costs 5 points. upgrading a skill (rifles, pistols, melee, dodge, etc) costs a single point per skillup. So, if you are going to craft, you would dump all of your points into Int and Dex 9the two stats that affect crafting) and would have some left over for something else. However, you would not have nearly as many points to make yourself good in combat or anything else. So, your other option would be to pump your rifle skill up, melee skill (for things that get up close), your str, dex, dodge and tons of other things so that you can fight better. You could then go for first aid, or several other things so that you could heal yourself. Then, you also need to boost Armor usage, which determines which armor you can and cannot wear.
So, if you were going pure combat, you would have high Endurance (gives HP), high stat that effects your weapon type (str for melee), high dodge, high first aid, high armor usage, and maybe more. It would let you specify for exactly one thing, giving you the advantage over someone that is not built for that purpose. And, since you only learn skills (skills that are used, like with hotkeys) by boosting up your skills (such as rifles, melee, first aid), you would also have quite a few tricks up your sleeve.
So, in Fallen Earth, level DOES help, as it gives you more AP to work with. But it is not everything, since someone that is built for battle is going to steamroll your pure crafter. :P

Quite frankly I found PvP to be terrible. By the end game you have a few high damage skills and can take someone out in a few seconds. There are also stuns and as far as I know you can be stun locked to death.
To control a conflict town you have to grind PvE quests. It's really bloody dull. One you will become really familiar with is collecting manure. Yup...good fun.
The PvP areas aren't large, but they get progressively bigger between Sectors.
If what Hatter says is true, that they have the expansion in the works/ready (which is just sad, sad, sad) then the following sectors might have larger PvP areas.

The developers plan on releasing expansions until the max level is like 150. I think they intend to do this on a 6 month cycle. Unfortunately, if and when you get to Sector 3, you'll wish it was a 3 or 1 month cycle.

Hmmm i just watched a video of pvp on youtube and it appears that sniping is the way to go. Is this so, how op or annoying are snipers and also i am not fan of the names appearing above your head in pvp areas. That completely gives away your position in a FPS game, which is just silly. I think it still sounds very fun, but i have to say that the whole thing about grinding quests to control a town sounds quite.....silly and repetitive. I think it should be something like you control points within the city or something like that. Also, what are the benefits of controlling a city or town?? what purpose does it serve?

It's not, OP. The names above the head are actually only at a certain distance and after you have someone targeted anyway.
The purpose of controling faction towns is for Rep, AP (at first, you only get to do those quests once), and most importantly Super Nodes. Those are nodes that drop high amounts of expensive and rare mats.

So will guilds want pure crafters?
I enjoy the ocassional pve or even pvp, but i enjoy collecting and creating.
What are your htoughts on this?
There will come a point in the game where every player will have to decide if they want to sink AP into Int and Perc, the two crafting stats. Once you've sunk those AP theres no getting them back, your a crafter/whatevercombat class you want.
Dedicated pve/pvp will more then likely not pursue this since only perc will help in combat, Int is crafting/medic and a little help with mutation. So guilds will be searching for dedicated crafters or the people who sunk thier ap into Int.
I have an ALT just set up for crafting now, with also some AP in melee/armor as best way to stay alive and able to harvest with the min amount of AP, and not have to worry about ammo and space taken up by ammo, saved wieght also for more carrying of mats.
Was suprised by a few things with going down that route...You can have 4 alts so i,m not going to ruin what you discover by doing that.
