First off Vlad, thanks for making me smack my screen thinkin there was a bug crawling around...0.o
As for why people compare to other games...because they like the WoW style, and if a new MMO isn't WoW in a different skin, to them, it is not as good. Todays players don't like to have to think about how to build up their character. They just want to ding to next level and keep going without stopping to think of how to arrange their character.
Well that's not a fair view. You had to think in WoW to build your character. When assigning talent points, you couldn't arbitrarily assign points or you'd gimp yourself. You could think your way into a good build, like I did, or you could read guides on how to build a good build, or you could pick a cookie cutter build. Fallen Earth is no different, except you have to think on how to build your character early in the game. However, once you have an understanding of the game, building your character no longer takes thought. People compare AION to WoW. Well in AION you have to think as well. You have manastones that you install on your gear, but there's a large variety of them in the world. There's no right or wrong way to socket your armor, but people with a brain can think up combinations and try them out. I'm still thinking my way through this part of my character building, and I'm level 18.
Fallen Earth is not that complex, and it annoys me that people are making it out to be more than it is. It has a very steep and sharp learning curve, but it's over in a day or two and then the game feels easier than any other on the market. People try to say this is a sandbox game, but I don't think it's fair to lump this game with the likes of UO, classic SWG, shadowbane, AC, and Saga of Ryzom. The game has levels, the game requires you to quest to earn those levels (many quests grant AP; AP grants levels), the game has a simple crafting system, the game has gear with stats and levels on them (rifle level, melee level etc), and the game has so few skills it offers less variety of gameplay than a class based game. I wouldn't call this game a sandbox and I don't understand why others place the label of "sandbox" and "complex" on this game day after day. I know I'm not that smart and the community that stupid.

I see where you are coming from on this issue and I do agree... up to a point.
Its true, Fallen Earth does not have a lot of skills. And it doesn't have as many sandbox features as I'm sure a lot of us would like to see. And its probably not as good as Pre-NGE SWG or Asheron's Call (although it kicks the crap out of Shadowbane becasuse it actually WORKS and they didn't hire a convicted criminal to be their public relations manager).
BUT!
This industry has been in a really sad state of affairs lately with so many companies trying to copy WoW, the Walmart of games. We should consider ourselves lucky that we got as much as we did out of Fallen Earth as most developers would not be willing to even consider making a game like this anymore.
And I see the potental here for this game to become something truly great in the future. They have a good basis for a game here. If they BUILD on that basis then someday this game could rival the old greats. Give it time. It has a chance we just need to wait and see what they do with that chance. And believe me, no one will be madder than I will if they screw this up.
Because Other Wise You Have No Frame Of REFERENCE... People judge things based upon their past experience. With gamers, thats other games. Good, bad, thats human nature.

You could alternatively say that when you are comparing games your actually wanting to create an image of "this game is far superior than this game because....." and list all your examples to highlight to the community why your A. going to quit and head back to whence you came or B. going to give the devs one last chance before quitting and heading back to whence you came.
It all really boils down to one thing, you compare because in essence you haven't moved on from your last game and your not really ready to fully leave it behind, you still want to play either a MKII version or your that hooked your just deluding yourself in playing something else for a short while.

The History of the Order of The Golden Shields
AP do not grant lvls, they are the reward from gaining a lvl.
You also missed that you could lvl purely by harvesting.
