Or this LOOP will go on FOREVER. The MMO industry is releasing the SAME GAMES over and over with slightly different themes. That will hold the players interest for a month or a few at best.
AS IF the MMO development has reached it's CLIMAX and there is nothing to develop anymore?!?? WTF???
There has been almost NO PROGRESS in this genre SINCE EVERQUEST only thanks to Darkfall there has been some progress, BUT for the rest it's only been downhill (thanks to added handholding and ease for failure all respect and interest for the gameworld and feel of an adventure IS GONE) There is ABSOLUTELY nothing NEW to these games everything has been SIMPLIFIED that is all they have done! Follow this journal and these pointers here for your next stop and watch out for the dots in your GPS RADAR MAP!
THE NEWBIE FEELING is GONE! Totally GONE!
My newbie char is already making effects and spells so flashy that only an explosion of a sun would be more impressive!
My newbie already plays and looks like a champ taking down tons of opponents at once 5 times bigger than him..
THESE GAMES are so retarded IT MAKES ME PUKE How can people accept this kind of crap are you ZOMBIES?
AND DON'T tell me the game gets more interesting at later levels, because I know it doesn't and why should any game be boring in the beginning?
There is SERIOUSLY something WRONG in the MAINSTREAM design that NEEDS TO BE FIXED!

Go play EQ?
If you don't enjoy a certain type of game, it doesn't mean other people doesn't enjoy it.
On the other hand, I kinda agree with you, but only time will tell if people will get the guts to make something "new".
Eh, no worries, FFXIV is coming soon. That'll fresh things out for a while at least, until game companies find another WoW to mimic.
they are making new stuff all the time ... it's just that people do not like the new stuff ... it is not actually entertaining
I love this game... so of course I will support it.
Nothing to see here.
We rode on the winds of the rising storm,
We ran to the sounds of the thunder.
We danced among the lightning bolts,
and tore the world asunder.

Dunno, I find a lot of the games to be a variation on a theme.
Even if its the same format (read genre) there is still a new story and environment to interact with.
Most games in any genre grow through evolution not revolution. A change here, a change there. Unfortunately some things survive despite not making it better.
It's not like you can support people that aren't making variations on a theme. They may have great ideas, but the implementation make a game that just isn't worth playing.
Different types of MMOs are made all the time, but people flock to the EQ/WOW variants. Not because it's their only choice, but because they like them.

March on! - Lets Invade Pekopon
and what were you surfing before posting? 80
Because WoW and it's variants sell. Gamers are as much to blame as the devs.
Nvm, misread.
We hear this 'comming soon' bit so often. Last year it was the 'Comming soon AoC, Warhammer' and most of us are still seeing the same ol same ol. So when will the 'Comming soon' actually mean a change of gameplay, rather than just a change of senery?

You should probably check the titles out.

While all of the titles posted above will most likely fail at providing different gameplay, the change is actually closer than one would think. Next year we'll finally see what we've been waiting for; a real change.
"... that's not why people watch TV. Clever things make people feel stupid, and unexpected things make them feel scared. TV audiences don't want anything original - they wanna see the same thing they've seen a thousand times before!"
It might actually hold as much truth in the case of MMO's (and gaming in general) as it does in the TV industry.

Somebody once said there is a sucker born every minute. What you say is true; people do not want new things because they have to figure it out again, which makes them flex their brain, and that hurts, and it scares them. And that is why Aion is so popular. It has better graphics, but it is the same game as before. This way, people can feel like they are playing something new without having to figure something out.
"Gamers will no longer buy the argument that every MMO requires a subscription fee to offset server and bandwidth costs. It's not true you know it, and they know it." Jeff Strain, co-founder of ArenaNet, 2007
WTF? No subscription fee?
Aion is, indeed, a rehash of every other grindy, eye-candy Asian game out there. Innovation seems to be absolutely zero. It's a pity, because I thought it might amount to something. As a F2P it would be worth playing every now and again, but only the munchkins who are easily contented with Fed-Ex quests and "Kill 10 mobs" quests will stick with it. The grown-ups will quickly move on.
Hell yeah.
Really... so you're saying you've played to the end of the game... and have seen everything... quite interesting. You're also saying that a game that failed miserably is the only game that has made any progress... very interesting as well. When you've been playing MMO's for years, don't you think you'd get pretty good at it? The feeling of "being a newbie" has been gone for me since I played EQ 10 years ago.
If you don't like it, don't play it. Stop spouting your bibble babble. GTFO.
I agree that I'd like to see more innovation in the mainstream, but the solution is simple: play something that isn't mainstream.
Homophobic is my guess.
Eventually new games will come out, u just have to be patient until then.
Well, tbh I find the characters of WoW AoC WAR and so on to be incredibly ugly, so I won't judge him.
However I won't also go and say that people that like the characters in said games are X or Y, since that'd be simply wrong too, as it's a matter of taste.
