Crafting/Gathering?

ElendilasXElendilasX Member Posts: 243

It seems nice game from what reviews I gathered. But they lack mentioning of crafting and gathering.

So first of all: can crafted items be customized, not color, size or other looks( still it would be nice) but materials you use changing items attributes. Like using heavy metals gives armors additional defense at cost of movement speed/evasion. Bullets with stronger gunpowder (or whatever it is used in them) increasing damage but giving stronger backfire.  And not just few options but like in Ryzom with hundreds of combinations ( maybe thousands and more)?

About gathering: is there huge variety of materials? How hard is to aquire them, simple click and wait? How many chunks (kilos) of lets say scrapped metal you can carry, is it realistic or can you in one run gather enough to build tank?

These questions are more like guidelines, any comments and notes are appreciated.

Thank you.

Some items can be modified visually, mostly clothes where you can take a cloth piece and craft it with some dye and then it gains a new color and sometimes changes the stats. I haven't seen any modifications of items so far so I don't know if that is in the game.

As to gaining materials. Well that is CONFUSING in a good way. Meaning there is almost infinite different sources for gaining materials. You gain materials as drops from humans mobs sometimes animals, gain materials from harvesting nodes and dead mobs, you gain materials from scavenging through ruins and old vehicles and so on.

The thing is that you can gain the same material in several different ways, for example you can gain a chemical from a plant, find it in the stomach of a mutant or maybe find it in a refuse pile. There is a large random factor in what you get when you gain materials, both in what you get and how much.

So you can't just sit down and repeat farming some node for materials, you have to explore and learn and over time find out a pattern that will give you what you need.

That being said the stuff you can make is very very nice.

A recipe is a recipe.  You input the required materials and it always comes out the same.

There are three levels of equipment. Basic, improved and advanced. The basic gear is well..basic. Improved and advanced will usually add modifiers. If you are making a skill use 75 knife the basic will due pretty poor damage and have no stats, the advanced will probably do better damage and still be statless, the advanced would have the best damage and maybe a modifier.

What you can carry is based on your strength and the limited amount of bag slots you have (items do stack) You can also put materials in your horses inventory (higher weight limit, but less slots)

Depending on how diverse a crafter you are, you only need about a dozen materials per craft. Some things are harder to find at lower levels, but as you move up become easier to find. The top end equipment needs materials from PvP zones and or PvP vendors.

Harvesting nodes usually come in patches. You will find a patch of Plant X and there will be a dozen or so around. Harvesting said plant may yield different materials. Each node type will yield materials allocated to that node.

This may be just my take on it but i find the crafting in Fallen Earth boring in some cases due to the fact that the recipes contain a lot of items that need to be gathered (or can be bought at earlier levels) and this would be fine but the things you can gather from never seem to drop the right stuff. Its fine if your creating somthing epic like a vechile but when you just want to make a pair of gloves to skill up its anoying

i thought age of conan was ment to be new and exciting...

Thank you again. I was able to make sort of big picture about it and decided to wait month or two before trying game (if they wont release trial or buddy keys sooner).

Just a few more minor questions:

Is ruins static and "recharge" or is it spawn, or maybe you can "create" scavengable items by destroying cars, building or other stuff which can be built by players?

Is there a way to increase crafting speed multiple times as I am always mostly focusing on crafting and waiting a month to craft some cars or something like that isnt to my tastes. Maybe you can "hire" npc helpers, buy/steal/invent crafting tools (or stations or whatever is in game) with bonuses, or maybe other players can join your crafting process so decreasing required time?

The nodes spawn. There are plants, cars, scrap metal, bodies, etc. Once you harvest them they disappear. I'm not sure how long it takes them to respawn. So, yes, you can learn where certain materials spawn and go back to get them later.

You can craft in designated areas to speed up your crafting. You craft in real time though, so it's not a big factor. (last I knew it was bugged if you logged out in said places) There is nothing else to speed up your crafting.

You can learn to make more ammo at once at higher levels. It's the only item I know that is like that.

Crafting is very addictive... you can learn anything you want to, although you will tend to focus upon what your toon specialises in.

But it's easy to sink hours into fiddling around with making stuff - and some of it is very cool. I was really pleased with my first gold club (a nice early melee weapon).

All in all, a fun part of the game, which really helps with the atmosphere - everything is scavenged, broken down, stolen, crudely put together or pulled apart.
