A hardcore gamers view after playing Aion.

Hellrazor27Hellrazor27 Member Posts: 55

Hey everyone,i dont post too much on here but i felt i should give my opinion on Aion from my experiance in game.

There has been a lot of talk about Aion being a "WoW clone" or "WoW 2" and while something will remind you of WoW,Aion is very much not WoW.I've always been a gamer that like to play "risk for reward" PvP games,i've played Neocron,UO ,Shadowbane and Darkfall to name a few,so when hearing about Aion and they hype behind it turned me off about the game.

It took a lot of begging on some of my friends parts but they got me to try Aion, and i must say they have done a very good job with blending a lot of things i like about MMO's,and belive it or not ....there is risk i PvP .So maybe its not full loot, but  there higher level you are the more you risk (meaning if you die you going to pay a ton of gold to get a soul heal and you also going to take a nasty hit on your abyss points ,and that could be hours of work ,or worse yet ....you set them back so they cant obtain that new peice of gear they wanted ).

So in short i want to let people know that you should choose for yourself to try it or not  and dont belive the BS for so called 'hardcore gamers" ....because this game has some hardcore values and i myself think its a very good step in belinding what everyone likes about MMO's.

I encourage everyone to at least give Aion a try. I'm not saying that Aion will be the game you're looking for but at the very least, you're not dealing with an unpolished product like Warhammer or Age of Conan.

Although I suggest you don't try it right now because the servers are already quite full.

There is some risk, but I have a feeling that the top abyss point people will obtain most of their points through repeatable pve quests.

true , now i know how a sardine feel lol

    but aion will fix it

that crowded feel is mainly europe

since we got new server in usa theres always room

probably wont last long but for now usa is good

eu tho oh men they need double the amount of channel in each server they got now

Do you mean channels - instances of the same zone?

    REALITY CHECK

  • ThillianThillian Member UncommonPosts: 3,156

Do I understand it right? The game has actual instances of each zone in the game?

To the OP: What exactly is hardcore about you?

    nope in this game

server are a bigger entity then wow

in the game the channel are acting as server

so if your on channel 12 in game

    its actually another server

they got 12 channel right now in each of the server

so 12 server /real physical server

i dont know if they can up the number of channel to 20 to raise number of player from say 60k +-

to say 100 k +- per physical server

kind of weird but its a very good system if ncsoft could raise the number of channel  per server instead of actually raising server

player could be in server ayoye  but instead of being stuck in the line up because all channel are full they could

go in channel 20 for exemple

Can you tell me the difference between an instance and a channel then? From what you just said, it seems to be the same. It is still the same zone instance system used in Age of Conan, Tabula Rasa, Guild Wars... etc which were all flamed for ... right?

Only in the areas with no rifts. The abyss, morheim/eltnen and Beluslan/Heiron, plus the capital cities don't have any channel.

So, if there's pvp in that area, there are no channels.

To the OP, one thing to notice is that PvP has no XP penalty, abyss points penalty is there tho, and it might get quite harsh if you are high ranked, right now im rank 5 and I loose around 200 points if I die, at higher ranks I might loose up to 10k

The above is a real joke !

100K on one server... what a laugh....

Listen the max number of players an Aion server can hold at the same time is around 7K !!!!

THEN these 7K are divided between 10 different "instances" on the client side.

Just you can have around 700 people playing in one instanced  reality", so the clients can handle the graphics loading from the clients hard disks.

This guy above comes up with 100K people per server.

What a joke you read these days on the internet.

With 13 servers each in NA and EU, NCsoft can handle a mere 90K people at once on each continent.

Hence the queing on prime time.

Learn the basics before even posting.

And yes the instances or channels in Aion are the exact same as the cut up worlds in AoC.

Both are used ... to keep the animation smooth for the purpose of the animation on the client side.

So you play actually with 700 people in one channel at the same time if 10 channels are used.

Aion is just a korean version of a game that wishes to be wow but fails due to amazing linearity, instanced zones and just all too boring for anyone who  experienced wow.

The maximum capacity of an Aion server according to the Q&A of NCsoft is ... 7000 concurrent players. Cuttin them up in instances means you divide those 7 K players even further for client purpose animations.

Read my answer above. Your answer of 100K players on one server is the most crappy post  I  ever read in a forum.

    What a joke.

All right, so I assume the game has the same crappy instanced world as Age of Conan? Once a zone is filled up with players (let's say 100), it opens up a new instance/channel. Why don't people mind that suddently? I remember all the hate on AoC and Tabula Rasa especially for that.

Remember what Assuming does.   Channels are only available in the "starter "zones areas where there would be a lot of competition for PvE mobs during the leveling phase. The Main cities, Abyss, and lvl 30+ areas are all 1 world.   People aren't complaining because they don't want to wait in line to "kill quest mob XZ24" when they are just trying to get to the end game things.

Also it makes for interesting farming in certain ways.  Random boss who drops blues not there on chan 1?  Try the next.

Selective memory I guess=)  Those who flamed AOC for this particular feature would be hypocrites.

Apparently the clarification isn't very clear.

    Thillian...

In the starter areas going on to the next  new player area, you will find channels. This is very much like Guild wars. However that is where the channels end. everywhere else is one area where everyone in the area is actually there. Channels end with the noob area and the first area after. The abyss has no channels, eltinen has no channels, Theobomos has no channels (this is elyos side). The same goes for the corresponding asmo side.

Actually the "interesting  farming" is a side effect that is only available in the lowbie areas.   I answered your question and added a little extra for those who hadn't thought of it.   If you chose to only concentrate on the fact that the low level areas are instanced that is a problem that you have.   You asked why people don't mind the instances I gave you an answer that is more than likely the reason people don't mind them.

  • ThillianThillian Member UncommonPosts: 3,156

You still did not answer me how is this different from the instanced world of Tabula Rasa (which in fact did not have instances in higher level zones either) and was heavily flamed here. Because of that, I have to assume again and agree with what Josher said. Selective memory. You would even call it an advantage here right?

I can't answer that question as I didn't play tabula rasa. I can only tell you what I know. Aion has channels for noob areas and one additional area after you become a daeva. Thereafter it's all one world. So if Tabula Rasa had channels a la guild wars for the noob area and one additonal area before you went into the wider world then they are exactly the same. If it didn't then they are not.
