Ever since Everquest I have played many MMO games, infact... most that have come out. Being disappointed multiple times, starting with Vanguard going to Age of Conan and Warhammer and thankfully I missed the Darkfall fun (mostly because of forum posts) I needed a game that came out without glitches or major gameplay problems. If we recall the issues that Aion is having now (that I see in the forums) it can be summed up quite clearly. "I / We are angry because there are server queues, this limits our ability to play the game." this is great news for NCSoft because it shows them that the problem is not a broken game, it is that people are having so much fun that they want to play... but can't, and this is a very large difference than complaints about other games. I am currently a relatively low level 10 but I can say right now that I plan on playing for a while to come, I look forward to logging in to play, and even if Aion isn't something new and revolutionary I do appreciate a new polished product that relies on proven fundamentals of MMO gaming and implements them in a polished and well presented way.
Hope this helps someone

I'm feeling the same way. I've played everything out there and kept coming back to WoW. I know the game's only been out not even a week, but so far i'm having a good time. If not, back to WoW I'll go.

Why cant I fly everywhere I want?
Seriously, get the shiny wings and I love the flight...just cant do it anywhere.
Oh and Its a personal rant but why am I fighting pokeman and hello kitty?
Other then that its been smack the dubaya with the bow, except less responsive.
a well done asian grinder.....
Hi-Yah!!
If you don't know why...then you have no idea about the lore in Aion. Back in the day when the tower was still there, every deava was able to fly anywhere. However, since the tower was destroyed, only fragments of the tower are able to fuel your flight. And fragments are only in certain places. Now in the abyss you can fly anywhere.
Out of game NCsoft did this so people are only in the sky all the time. They wanted the game to be grounded most of the time. NCsoft wanted events happening on the ground and in the air.
if you feel that the sounds are bad, just turn off voices or get another voice pack.
Great game, I have been playing hard all week, just about level 20. It keeps getting better.

Ah I see. I love lore thanks.
Still its a failing on the developers end for me. The whole light and dark winged angels flying for thier cause gripped me. This is not the case.
Without that mystic, its just another elf/wizard/platemail mmo. It all just IMHO though.
I'll grind through too some pvp and see if that does anything for me.

Lemme ask you something; How do you know that? Or rather, how would someone brand new to the game know all that? Say they never watched any of the trailers or read anything about the game prior to playing Aion. Just bought the game and fired it up. Is there something actually in the game that mentions all that? I watched the trailers, and I read up on it, so I knew everything you just posted, but up to the point of ascension, did I glaze over and miss something along the way, where all that was explained? Seems like that would be an important nugget of info to present to the players, but I don't remember seeing it actually spelled out anywhere in the game.

True. The opening sequence is very very vague when it tells the lore of the game. They should have went to better detail.
Just rename them to Chickens and ducks. After that ask "Why am I fighting Chicken and Ducks?" and Im sure somebody will find you a solution for that too
The good thing with Aion is that it is released in EU/US as a polished game. It isn't rushed out, in hopes to be able to fix the game as time goes. Aion would not have been any different then AoC, WAR, DFO etc if it wasn't forthe fact the game has been out in China and Korea for almost a year. But that is alsoa good thing, the MMO scene needs a game that can come out and grow big, and if Aion does this it will be a huge signal to all western MMO developers that they have to make polished quality games and not rush out a game.
Not playing Aion myself as I found it to be boring, just more of the same old themepark MMO type of games. But the game isn't bad, it has qualities, it just failed miserably on getting me hooked.
Playing: Battlefield - Bad company (Xbox360) Arma2, DFO (PC)
On my radar: TSW, MO
MMO's played: SWG (pre cu/cu), WoW, AoC, WAR, DFO, Planetside
MMO's that I have tested: Lotro, L2, Aion, Ryzom
so far I'm pleased enough to keep playing this, I can't wait to see the higher end content and PvP
Yes, it's a well done and polished game and the asian crowd may go crazy about it.
But i think that it will stumble and very likely fall on the western market though. The two reasons are the MASSIVE grind factor kicking in at several level ranges (along with the very slow leveling at times) and the mindless gankfeast which is abyss-pvp. Both points do in no way appeal to the western audience.
I couldnt disagree with you more if I wanted to. It has most certainly gotten off to a great start. Servers are PACKED, people are crafting, questing, levelling, exploring, flying, pvp, -- and as far as grinding you are just another tool who throws this word around like it means something to a true MMO player -- we all KNOW AION has a grind -- along with EVERY other MMO out there -- I play casually and am already 14 -- you get xp from crafting, harvesting mats, questing, killing mobs, etc -- its beyond easy to get xp -- you get xp without even trying or thinking about it some of the time. not sure who appointed you spokeswoman for the western audience, but the players will speak on their own -- and so far they dont agree with you.
