Sign ups for the beta test of Star Wars: The Old Republic are now being taken on the official The Old Republic website!
Would be testers will be selected from the Star Wars: The Old Republic community by use of a number of factors including, age, region, and system specifications. You must be 18 years of age to sign up and you'll need an account in good standing at the official The Old Republic website.
The test will be conducted in phases, with smaller groups initially, and an intent to expand gradually as the test goes along.
If you don't have an official The Old Republic community account you'll need to sign up for one here (and be sure to check off that you want to test the game). If you've already got an account, well what are you waiting for!? Sign up for the beta!
A Game Testing FAQ is also available for viewing here.

Awesome.
What min sys requirements do you think they will take? I have a duo core 1.8 4 gigs of ram, buy an ati raedon 1950 card
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, Eve Online, DCUO, Rift
Playing: SW:TOR
Awesome! waited for it, for soo long
There's no info on this currently, but I imagine they will want to include a wide range of system specifications in their test, so I wouldn't worry about it. They know the game will run on the high end systems, I imagine it's the lower end stuff that really needs to be put through the paces. Just as a disclaimer though, I don't work for BioWare (obviously) and I have no idea what their particular processes will be, I'm just speculating here.
Surprise, surprise... website seems to have crashed. Wish they had made it compatible with Firefox. Had to try and reload the site in IE.
it is compatiable with firefox. I'm using it, and had no problems.
They have said that that is part of what they are testing, to determine min system requirements. The beta signup scans ur computer, and they are looking for people from all walks and experiences. But sys reqs will be determined via beta, not before.
FYI right now the site is bouncing up and down. I suggesting waiting for a few hrs before attempting sign up to let them work out the issues they are currently having.
most beta will try and cover not just the top of the line but also work on lower end systems. The idea is that in beta they also work to hash out what will and will not work as well. In some cases might even be better to not have top of the line to get into betas as will really need to work the spectrum.
Not the site itself, the beta tester system scan portion. When I got to that, was told the browser was incompatible. Had to flip over to IE, which I never use.
Ran fine in FF3.5 for me.
Does it require a dxdiag? Because I'm at work and not on my gaming pc.
The Official God FAQ
No, it actually scans the pc you use.
No they aren't using that, they are using an active file scan system from their end, java based. I know stuck at work too, luckily I can access my comp via a gateway
That's it, thanks. Needed to update...

Looks like I'll be running home for lunch. Hopefully the site is up by then. Thanks.

It's really messed up right now. It's giving my a site unavailable message, but still letting me see half the thread in a really distorted look, I can click reply, but can't type anything... so IDK they may not even realize there is a problem if some people can still get in and post.

Works fine for me with Firefox.

Doesn't work on FF3.5.3 for me, but loads fine in Safari and Chrome. Either way it's down for 'maintenance' now anyway.
Ningen wa ningen da.

Just wanted to pop in and say I signed up using Firefox 3.5.3 with no issues.
Registration is closed due to some maintenance atm. I don't think signing up the first day gives you an advantage. With the millions I expect to sign it the mathematical prababilities are slim anways.
And see it in that way: when we don't get in beta, we are gonna be surprised by the story as we should when the game goes life.
That's not good for me, my 8800GTX was sent off to get a new one. It went bad and so BFG was replacing it. Right now I have a crappy 8600GT in its place. I have a dxdiag from a few weeks back but I guess it will scan with my crappy card in.

It really doesn't matter what is in your machine, to a certain degree. I'm sure they wanna test the game on older hardware to.

Well beta isn't going to start in the next week, wait till your new card comes back before signing up. I it will probably be a good couple months before they start actual testing and the chance of getting in first round draft is slim, so just be patient and sign up when your comp is back up to full.
That said, I ran across this in their FAQ. I think this is their answer to trying to get everyone that wants to test in to testing. You test a session, and then other people test another session. This is from their FAQs:
When each testing session ends, will the chosen players be able to test again?
Our approach is to have new testers for each testing session. That said, players who give excellent feedback or find and report good bugs may be considered for additional testing sessions.
This is exciting news!!!!!
