clinteastclinteast Member UncommonPosts: 159

Hi im an eq2 beta tester that wont be buying eq2 based on my experience.  I wanted to ask the following questions if someone can ask

1. No pvp in Eq2(Doh) but is there like guild vs guild on here, or open pvp, consenual pvp?

2. In eq2 a lot of the times ur forced to grp, is there a lot of solo content in wow?

3. Spells and Skills are there plenty of them or every so often are u given the same spell but just better?

4. Are there any pet classes and are they fun if so?

5. When you lvl do u get choice of what skills u want or stat distribution?

Sorry for the plethora of questions

    1. Yes, there will be open PvP in WoW ::::: BUT ONLY ON PVP servers.  There are regular "PvE" servers that only contain PvP in certain areas.

    2.  Soloing is very easy in WoW.  To be honest, i think the game is a little too much towards soloing.  But this is at low levels.  As you level the quests get harder, and require larger groups to accomplish.  It is quite possible to solo from 1-60 and not take a terrible amount of time.

    3.  There are a good amount of spells, and they also have the "same spell but just better" thing you talked about.  In other words, they have spells of a certain line, that get better, and there are other spells that are original.

    4.  Yes there are pet classes.  Warlock gets like gargoyle and infernal type stuff, Hunters can train animals to be there pets.  I can't say if they are fun because i never played either of those classes.

    5.  When you level, you get spells that are available to you, and you need to pay a trainer to learn.  There is no choice here, and you just pay for all your spells.  There is no stat distribution, as that is automatic.  But after level 10, for every level you get 1 talent point, in which you invest talent points to make a certain aspect of your character better.  For example, a Shaman has talant trees for better healing, stronger melee abilities  ( buffs and such), and stronger casting abilities.

I'm pretty sure all of this stuff is correct, as I have only played the stress test up to level 15.  Your best bet will be to play the open beta for WoW that will be starting "soon."  Which will probably turn about to be another 2+ weeks.

Hey there Clint, i've played both WOW and EQ2 and I have to say that i'm going to be buying WOW without a doubt :)

    To answer your questions

    1. WoW will have consentual PVP using a duel system between same faction members, Also there will be battlegrounds where the 2 factions go head to head, but there is no open PVP

    2. There is ALOT of Solo content in WoW I'm not sure exactly how it holds up in higher lvl's (i've head good and bad things about high lvl soloing) I am sure you won't have a problem soloing all you want in WoW!

    3. In EQ2 you are simply given a skill when you lvl and you can just "upgrade" that skill by scribing scrolls, that said WoW gives you the ability to further customize your skills by visiting a trainer and selecting the skills you want to get at that time. There are plenty of skills :) If you watch just about any WoW gameplay movie and check out the hotbar there always filled up with skills.

    4. Yes 2 pet classes the warlock and the hunter. Both very fun, and both get pets soon into the game, The Warlock gets demonic type pets that play a variety of roles so you would summon one for casting and if you needed an extra melee advantage you would summon a different type that used melee. The hunter can tame almost any creature he wants too with certain limitations of course :)

    5. No stat distribution, items mainly provide your stat bonuses (the diablo series) See answer #3 :) Although there is a talent at lvl 10 that will allow you to further customize your character with extra abilities (some active and some passive)

Let me know if you have any other questions, i'll be glad to answer them if I can :)

I found that WoW's PvP is usualy on a Small Group vs Group or Large group vs Large group basis.
This game is very solo or small group friendly, so often people go and HUNT the XPers, specialy in PvP servers, Which is good, because there is no death penaltiy. Getting Killed is the penalty. It'll happen, and happen often. If you don't like dying, this isn't the game for you, unless your going to play a Druid, they can usualy get away.

Groups aren't an issue. I've found that EVERY class can solo effectivly, however due to the nature of some classes, they may or may not be as good/fast as others, but DEFINITLY not impossible.

    SKills/Talents/Spells
Well spells, there are usualy the Useful ones that people go with, Mages pick a path, and usualy focus on Fire, or ice, dependant on their playstyle, but your charactor has choices, Specialy with Tradeskills, which have bonuses to your abilites, For example, some swords are Bind on Possesion. Meaning It cannot be traded, Once its made its yours, These are usualy VERY powerful, things like Engineering have Bombs, and Nets to snare people, Enchanting muchlike smithing you make things more powerful, some often BoP. Theres a variety of ways to build, and bonuses to each. If you factor this in, specialy with Talents, you can have a very unique charactor, some people may be similar, but not everyone will be the same. Theres No ONE thats the best.

Hunters have pets, and so Do Warlocks (which are being worked on) and there is a huge variety in their pets, and what each pet does, some deal dmg, some pull agro, some tank, some have high DPS.

When you level your Attributes go up, But your skills go up as you use them... Like Swords/mace/staffs/ ect ect.

"1. No pvp in Eq2(Doh) but is there like guild vs guild on here, or open pvp, consenual pvp?"

In general, PVP exists between the two factions.  Only by challenging/accepting a duel can you fight with somebody on your team (faction). On the PvE servers, PvP options include manually flagging yourself for PvP, Battleground areas/zones, and being automatically flagged for PVP by killing rival factions NPC's or assisting in PVP combat.

"2. In eq2 a lot of the times ur forced to grp, is there a lot of solo content in wow?"

There is a ton of solo content in WOW.  I find myself being able to solo the majority of the quests - although I find it easier/quicker/more fun to do it in a small group of 2 to 3 players.  The only thing you absolutly need a group for is an instanced dungeon or Elite (super mobs) quests.

"3. Spells and Skills are there plenty of them or every so often are u given the same spell but just better?"

While there are plenty of spells, most of them are just improved spells.  However I believe they said they will be adding some more high end spells in the next patch.

"4. Are there any pet classes and are they fun if so?"

The two main pet classes are the Hunter and the warlock.  I have a friend who is a warlock and he finds it fun, I also have a hunter which I love (although they don't offer much to a group).  The pet classes tend to be great solo choices.

"5. When you lvl do u get choice of what skills u want or stat distribution?"

When you lvl you have access to more spells and abilities which you purchase from your class vendor.  Skills level up as you use them, and stat distribution is automatic.

Thanks to all that replied much appreciated.

I have been playing mmorpgs since the days of uo my first experience and i find pvp to be the most exciting feature of any mmorpg. So hearing that it is faction based in some areas is good and also there will be pvp servers is nice to be catered for.

Can i confirm that one of u said the more u use a skill the better u become at it i.e. like in Asherons Call.
