She knows I love MMOs and assumes I don't have the time to pick them up myself so she gets them for me.

So I wanna thank all of you and the Aion devs.
My wife saw how disgusted I was with Aion and after she watched me virtually toss the game box across my living room to my brother she finally said it.

It finally happend, It took a super generic game but it finally did. I am free of Wife bought lame mmos.

But anyway there's Direct2Drive and Steam if you can't find the time to go out and buy them yourself.
Exactly -- my girlfriend bought me Mass Effect, the Witcher, WAR and Hellgate London. 2 out of 4 aint bad. But, I would never be so lame as to throw a gift like that. The guy has issues and isnt afraid to show us all how silly and pathetic he is.

You guys are having a hard time understanding my situation, It's ok. This year alone in 2009 my wife has bought me three MMos, twelve 360 games, three ps3 games, and about six PC games.
Out of the three MMOs one was blahh. We easily have the cash to toss at games and you guys are trying to make me out to be a mean guy while All I really did was hold my tounge for a couple years so my wife wouldn;t get her feelings hurt lol.

I agree with the OP. Aion sucks. I found the combat got awfully boring and really fast . Some things the game does very well but if I find the main aspect (combat) to be absolute crap, then the game is clearly not worthy of trying out any further.

The MMO community is not fine, they play the same shit over and over.
When a game has any type of variety they let it die or bitch that it's not WoW.
A good video game genre has variety but this one happens to be held back by the community that's happy with the same formula since EQ.

No worries though, my thread was getting boring and it's obvious that the anti-social WoW players on this forum will give anyone a hard time for not liking their game or speaking of anything out of game.
You see them all the time. you get into a guild and the second you start conversating about RL shit they get all crazy or never say a word like a fucking bot.

You like eve which is cool i liked it two i just found grinding ore/forever upgrading my ship to be rather boring after a while. And yes thats 90% of the damn game ore and upgrading your ship. EVE is a good game for those who enjoy it. So is WoW. I don't care for either of them. Unforunately the game I liked was unpopular so it was shut down and I'm waiting for something else to come along. I don't blame people who didn't like it for not playing it. What sort of idiot pays to play a game they don't like? I'll tell you a secret. LotRO is a very different game from Aion. Yet you would just lump them under "themepark" and dismiss them as the same. Sorry but you're wrong. They're fundamentlly different. As is WoW. Darkfall, Ryzom, Warhammer, PotBS, DAoC, EQ, SWG. Some better than others but all different. Don't get hung up on labels.
It has nothing to do with people liking my games and everything to do with people not giving Variety a chance. Imagine if someone released a game with no UI, Totally new combat and randomized quests and Randomly generated dungeons something totally different than what we are used to.
All you would see is retards on this board bitching because the dungeons arent as cool or as scripted as WoWs or Lotros and that the Quests dont give them cool rewards like WoW or push them in a certain direction. They would bitch that the combat isn't a Fps happy spamm fest like WoW.

Variety is a good thing. Also to the games you listed Take out the themeparks that are near death like DF and Ryzom, PotBS is near closing down due to lack of players because the game isnt WoW 2.0 like Aion. As for the rest they're just EQ with one new feature to hook people in.

Yeah she's awesome. She plays WoW right now. She wont buy me anymore MMOs unless I ask for it. honestly I haven't read enough on FFXIV to warrant a pre-order or anything.
It might be something I will get her as a random purchase. She likes Pve focused games like Lotro, WoW and EQ.
We used to play together but now the high risk games I play are too much for her. She gets really nervous and to her that feeling of danger 24/7 isn't fun.

Let me say that I'm not as much of a sandbox fan wanting everyone to like the shit i play as I am a player wanting the genre to move forward with games offering the player more to choose from variety wise.
I'm pro MMO all the way. I want the genre to get better so I give games that bring nothing to it a hardtime. Really I only have the best intentions when it comes to the mmo genre as a whole.
One day MMOs will be fucking fantastic solid all the way around an amazing social, pve, pvp and rp experience. i'm a little impatient since I know if people continue to support the same shit over and over that we all complain about it will take longer to reach that point. I agree with the OP. Aion sucks. I found the combat got awfully boring and really fast . Some things the game does very well but if I find the main aspect (combat) to be absolute crap, then the game is clearly not worthy of trying out any further.
I cant get enough of Lord of the rings online and Champions Online.

As for Aion in about 3-6 months when your hyped up for your next themepark I'll still be playing Eve since it's feature set makes games like Aion look like a childs toy.

The MMO community is not fine, they play the same shit over and over.
When a game has any type of variety they let it die or bitch that it's not WoW.
A good video game genre has variety but this one happens to be held back by the community that's happy with the same formula since EQ.

And I got my char to 13m SP in 6 months in EVE. And I was in one 0.0 alliance.
And after all that I prefer this asian grinder to that lame spreadsheet.

I'm not especially impressed by Aion either...and I've not made up my mind if I wanna continue the sub when the free time is over...but it's not a bad game...just a bit...well...generic.

No worries though, my thread was getting boring and it's obvious that the anti-social WoW players on this forum will give anyone a hard time for not liking their game or speaking of anything out of game.
You see them all the time. you get into a guild and the second you start conversating about RL shit they get all crazy or never say a word like a fucking bot.
It's sad really. Thats why I play games like Ryzom and Eve. Real people knowing that one of the biggest draws to a MMO is socializing not fucking solo play and gear.

EVE is a good game for those who enjoy it. So is WoW. I don't care for either of them. Unforunately the game I liked was unpopular so it was shut down and I'm waiting for something else to come along. I don't blame people who didn't like it for not playing it. What sort of idiot pays to play a game they don't like? I'll tell you a secret. LotRO is a very different game from Aion. Yet you would just lump them under "themepark" and dismiss them as the same. Sorry but you're wrong. They're fundamentlly different. As is WoW. Darkfall, Ryzom, Warhammer, PotBS, DAoC, EQ, SWG. Some better than others but all different. Don't get hung up on labels.
It has nothing to do with people liking my games and everything to do with people not giving Variety a chance. Imagine if someone released a game with no UI, Totally new combat and randomized quests and Randomly generated dungeons something totally different than what we are used to.
All you would see is retards on this board bitching because the dungeons arent as cool or as scripted as WoWs or Lotros and that the Quests dont give them cool rewards like WoW or push them in a certain direction. They would bitch that the combat isn't a Fps happy spamm fest like WoW.
Most of these guys won;t even give a game like that a chance.

Variety is a good thing. Also to the games you listed Take out the themeparks that are near death like DF and Ryzom, PotBS is near closing down due to lack of players because the game isnt WoW 2.0 like Aion. As for the rest they're just EQ with one new feature to hook people in.

Yeah she's awesome. She plays WoW right now. She wont buy me anymore MMOs unless I ask for it. honestly I haven't read enough on FFXIV to warrant a pre-order or anything.
It might be something I will get her as a random purchase. She likes Pve focused games like Lotro, WoW and EQ.
We used to play together but now the high risk games I play are too much for her. She gets really nervous and to her that feeling of danger 24/7 isn't fun.
It's kinda like watching a horror film certain people just cant relax with that suspense feeling all of the time. I understand that.

Let me say that I'm not as much of a sandbox fan wanting everyone to like the shit i play as I am a player wanting the genre to move forward with games offering the player more to choose from variety wise.
I'm pro MMO all the way. I want the genre to get better so I give games that bring nothing to it a hardtime. Really I only have the best intentions when it comes to the mmo genre as a whole.
One day MMOs will be fucking fantastic solid all the way around an amazing social, pve, pvp and rp experience. i'm a little impatient since I know if people continue to support the same shit over and over that we all complain about it will take longer to reach that point. Don;t get all mad at me for wanting this stale genre to improve.
To your other shots at me. No im not an Idiot, no I don't have a lot of free time ( I work a near 10+ hour shift six days a week) and yes Eve is a sandbox/open ended game lol.
