Are all hardcore guilds run by people with anti-social tendencies?

Mind you, I've been playing MMORPGs since Ragnarok Online was in beta, after that game it was Final Fantasy XI, from then on I've tried everything that's been out except F2Ps.
This hardcore guild consists of two main leaders. One, named Icy, likes to go around power tripping. The other, Elvine, who seems to enjoy sitting beneath Icy and sucking his ****. What bugs me? One dude, who's friend was in the guild and I don't know either of them, went AWOL for 4 days due to life issuse and had no internet connections. In my previous "guilds" (or corps in EvE Online) I had the GM (or CEO) send me emails when I went away for a while without warning. It was usually due to retarded girl issues but it was nice when the GM/CEO checked up to see if everything was okay.
Back to the original topic; Icy decides to boot this person. His friend is like "wtf? I just found out about what happened today". Icy then power trips and tells everyone "You're all replaceable". Oh great, I've played teamsports before, infact I'm pretty built and play football for my uni (well...did actually), and the last thing youu want to do in any team as a "coach" is to piss the team off and kill team morale. So..ehh....?
So my question is, are all "hardcore" guilds like this? A lot of us shit talk behind Icy's back, but no one wants to say anything to him because we know we'll get kicked. My main reason for staying is because we're the 2nd highest Legion on our server and it's easier to find players that are not stupid in this guild but...as I asked:
Are all "hardcore" guilds full of anti social assholes who display behaviour that would certainly get your ass beaten in life?

EDIT: Anti-social behaviour refers to behaviour that would get your ass fired/beaten/kicked in life, which ironically is anti-social behaviour itself, paradox much? But meh. Don't believe me? Wikipedia it.

My opinion? If my guild leader said that we were all replaceable I would hit "leave clan" button so fast it would cause a rift in time and space.

Find people who share your view of a guild. Don't submit to what another person says the guild should be like if it is not the same as your view.

    Absolutely ridiculous.

    @OP:

omg! The same EXACT thing happened to my friend when WAR released. I was in my first "uberguild" I guess you could say, since maybe EQ. Benny Lava were a bunch of leetist jerks who were doing the same thing constantly (kissing each other's ass) and would just simply make fun of people who leveled slower than them. Then, they kicked my friend for being on vacation and not leveling fast enough.

The sadest part was, most of them had serious RL issues. I can tell from vent that the leaders and officers really had no life, and sounded suicidal in a sarcastic way...but I'm pretty sure it was real. They had no jobs and only made their money off donations on their private owned Ragnarok server. All they did was play (insert X game of the month here) or go on forums and 'rofl lol' at any post about them.

It was crazy! That was my only experience with uber guild since EQ. EQ was totally different but this was back in 2000,2001.

*EDIT* - Hah, when he kicked my friend he actually did say "HAH! Easily replaceable...EASILY...He leveled wayyy to slow"

That's very situational. The Executor of the alliance I am part of is a very nice guy, with a family, wife, kids and a really awesome career. I guess it's different on EVE?

Eve tends to have more mature people eh?

That's what I'm beginning to think too due to what I wrote in my original post.

Oh, and to clarify, bad manages exist yes. I've had one, and I know some people need that job to survive and won't speak up but I do. Right now I work with a bunch of friendly individuals at a hospital because I'm a nurse, prior to this I was a barista at Starbucks. I'll keep this short and simple:

I got our district manager fired and replaced because I stood up and start talking shit to her face during a meeting. I, myself, nearly got fired for that. I was even offered a promotion but rejected it because I was going else where (hospital). And yes, I realize my actions had very little consenquences because of my alternate career choices but guess what?

If you have a bad manager, there's no one else to blame but yourself, because youu won't speak up. Maybe you have a wife and 2 kids to feed, well guess what? So do your other co-workers  probably, and chances are they hate your boss too. So do something about it.

With that said, I'm probably going to get booted out of the guild tonight lol

I live to go faster...or die trying.

No, but running a hardcore guild takes a lot out of people, and it's hard for anybody to stay sane through dealing with a guild full of people wanting loot, wanting this, wanting that from you.  And no matter how hard you try, somebody will start drama, and it's a domino effect and next thing you know, you got a bunch of disgruntled people because they're fighting amongst themselves.

Running a guild is kinda like running a country.  No matter what you do, you are bound to tick off a large amount of people no matter what.   I stopped running raid guilds after 2 years in WoW, after having a very successful guild but it eventually got broken apart by people who want more, people who want what you have, people who jump to another guild who is just 1 raid boss ahead of you, etc..   I've realized most people online don't care about you, they just care about what they can get themselves.

So you ask what type of people that run hardcore guilds, well there could be good people, but often they get pushed over the limit.  You end up having limited selection of guilds run by good boys clubs and the elite few that don't give a crap.

To the OP, in my opinion, replace the word "antisocial" with "elitist" and you will be dead on for a good majority of hardcore guilds out there.  Kinda comes with the territory I have come to assume, although there are always exceptions to the rule.  The difficulty lies with finding them, of course.  Of course, all of that is just my opinion on what I have observed, and I will add to that most hardcore guilds that are made up of more mature (older) players that i have encountered have less incidents of this occurring.  I was in a very highly ranked, 2nd or 3rd place i believe, guild on WAR that was strictly 18+ and very difficult to get into.  This guild had no elitism, at least towards other guildies, that I ever noticed.  In fact I didn't notice it towards non guildies either, and it was probably the best guild I have ever been lucky enough to be a part of.  To that end, good luck in your search for the perfect companions!!!

I've found that in guilds, the people are the only thing that's actually irreplaceable. You can replace positions, you can even replace games themselves... But you can't replace a person that's intelligent, a lot of fun to chat with, not an asshole and does not care so much about the in-game rewards as he does about keeping the pals he makes online.

And yes, that sort person can play really really well, too.

I had a guild that prioritized having fun in raids. In fact we had so much fun that I'm sure we progressed slower than we were capable of. We still were a strong guild on our server, but not the top, when we might have been if we really pushed it. We were just fine as it was.

Though apparently, some weren't. They chose to take that one step above, to the top two hardcore guilds. Most of them came back later. They said, yes, the progress there was better but overall it was just not worth it. No fun to go along with the achievements, and having no fun in a game just makes the whole thing void. Most of us have been in a hardcore guild here and there in other games since then, and I have to agree.

Actually, that old guild... It does not exist as a guild (maybe because none of us are now willing to commit to the time running one), but many of its players still find each other in new games and get into like-minded guilds. It's a blessing.

I just cant understand why people put up with this. You don't have to be in a guild lead by a total dbag to progress and have fun in a game.

People do it for gear, that's all there is to it.  They stay in a guild they don't like, bad mouth them behind their backs, but stay in there and probably even kiss up to the guild leader for gear.

Raiders are all about math....they do not care for you as a person...they want the math to be right.  You need the right hp, AC, resists, DMG.  If not then you can not be their friends because the math says so.  Raiders are not about building communities as much as getting their math right.
