Review from a lvl 29 templar

jomarguejomargue Member UncommonPosts: 60

First of all I gotta say I am not ur typical fanboi or hater , and I am not one to write long boring speeches either , so I will try to focus on the 2 points I consider more important in a MMORPG (PVE - aka lvling) and PVP:

lvling : 1-20 you just quest trough it, if someone is experiencing grind here then he is doing something wrong . 20-25 I started to grind specially the last 2 lvls, in part cause of the lack of quests in part because I was anxious about getting into the Abyss, the place everyone said the "real" Aion started.  25-29 : The abyss . Well not many quests so you will find yourself grinding , still nothing really hard, mobs in abyss were easier than expected and gave a lot of exp . Making 2 lvls a day so far . Although I think the real grind will come at 35+ I havent experienced any serious grind so far.

PVPing (The Abyss):  Well here I am a bit disappointed. Everyone talking about the PvP in Aion yet the only one I have experienced so far is ganking. Right now the PVP trend in the abyss is gank or get ganked, but I hope things will improve once more ppl reach the higher lvls and start sieging fortresses, there I hope to see the real massive PVP Aion claims to offer.

So all in all I would rate Aion right now as 8/10 although if the PVP part improves it could very well be 9.5/10

Have fun !

You roaming solo in the abyss or running with a group? I remember this was how DAOC started in its infancy as well...gank gank and more gank...then people started grouping ...which led to zerg, zerg and more zerg.

The abyss is going to big part of Aion for me as well. I'm loving the game right noew (pve/crafting) but if the Abyss is as good as I've heard I'll likely consider Aion one of the most fun MMOs I've played....and I've played them all. Aion simply does alot of good things right. If the abyss is good as well....i cant wait! lol

PVP will shine when there will be people grouping at cap, atm 25+ can go inside abyss yes can "pvp" but they are not experienced yet and don't know the battlefield once they will reach the cap they can group together and at cap everyone will have all skills (not counting manastones/godstones/whatever) and THEN you will see real pvp.

Thanks for the observations.  Yeah I'm playing Aion for the pvp, but so far have taken 3 characters to level 12-15 to get a feel for what class I'll max first (cleric.)  I've been antsy to get out of the quest grind and into some real action (of course playing the starter area 3 times = grind.)  Hoping the abyss lives up to my expectations for fast group pvp.  I'd love to hear more reports from "the front" about pvp if anyone cares to add their 2 cents.

well so far very high % of all people on the servers are below level 25. When majorities are past that lvl we will see how the PvP really will look like!

Mostly solo , but as a templar (tank class) I can easily escape ganking squads (unless they are 10+)

Like ppl have said the PvP will improve once ppl starts getting 50 (I hope) although by then I fear newcomers wont have it easy, imagine a gank squad of lvl 50's going into Abyss starters zones lol I can smell the slaughter from here

I'm afraid you perfectly nailed it. And that's a reason I 'm not sure I'll like this kind of faction vs faction PvP. When you do not compete for precise objectives, it often ends up like you describe : world pvp becomes ganking. Because most of the fights are always decided even before they start : level 35 vs level 25 wins, 2 vs 1 win, class X vs class Y wins, 6 man premade team on TS vs randoms win... etc. That's how it goes, many people may like it anyway, just a matter of taste. I will be more interested in the large scale battles for fortresses for example, it may end being some other kind of ganking but it could have this epic feeling also.

We certainly need to give it more time to see how it will go anyway :)

well considering most are way to low for the higher end pvp forts and such its basically just rift pvp and abyss ganking. Both are fun but the meat of the pvp doesn't come till later when the forts and 3rd faction come into play

There are objectives, they are called artifacts near the fortresses and so far only PvP in the abyss is in groups.

Already on Lumiel WolfPack(elyos) already has taken a fortress.

Am 27 now and see alot of ppl Solo in the abyss getting ganked. ..... Well you need to keep an eye open or team with ppl. But it is sad that there are ppl that are lvl 35 and have nothing better then to kill a lvl 25.

    Played Aoc/DDO/FFXI/WAR / LoTRo / CO / Aion
    Playing Rift

Waiting for FFXIV to be the game it should. so sad =(

Umm, it is called Abyss points acquisition. I would suggest getting use to grouping.

Or they can get used to dying a whoooooole lot.

And never allow thoughts of gain to lead you into the pursuit of evil. Never back away from an enemy. Either fight or surrender. It is not enough to say I will not be evil. Evil must be fought wherever it is found.”The Iron Code"

He probably get only 1 point tho, it is mostly ganking.  But  you cannot tell what lvl the other is so we can't blame anyone.
