Just curious, so far they stated this is going to be another "group" based game.
So i assume it will be similar to FFXI, where support job will never be soloable. While Damager class have limit solo potential.
Much like most FFXI class, solo is possible, but it will be at a very slow rate compare to party.
Will you play this?
none

First off, I thought they said they were going to try to make it a bit more solo friendly.
Secondly, I would most definitely play it if it continued along the trend of FFXI and being more group centric. I would even go so far to say that I would prefer it to be; though, I will be playing it either way.

No idea, since I never played ff11. I prefer groups, in games where it is relatively easy to get groups. In fact Ill also say that in games where you can progress just as fast solo as in groups Id still rather group if I have the choice.
The more group centric FF14 is the more appealing the game sounds to me. Just the reverse for me of what the OP asked. The more solo directed the game becomes the less likely it is I would play it.
I would probably still play it, soloing wasn't really the problem in FFXI to me, the problem was having nothing to do while waiting for groups.
So as long as I have something to do while waiting for groups or they have some system that really improves getting groups i'm happy.
They said it was going to be solo-able but I'm just speaking as if they didn't say that for the topics purpose.
The reason why i loved FFXI is because it was group oriented and there was no solo in it (BST only).
If this game kills the groups we had in FFXI then it wont be as much fun, and I would call it another wow clone.
I didn't go online to play by my self , I have a console to do that, even consol games now encourage Groups.
Finally, a group Oriented game makes a much better community and kills nubness.
I agree with everything posted above me (crosses fingers no one new posted while I was typing).
Thank you OP for allowing me to cast this vote, my democratically inclined brain appreciates the idea of having a voice.
I am also happy to read posts from all the potential party members on this forums.

100% agreed with everyone.
I hope the solobility is VERY limited.
*sigh*
You know i think people are mistaking what they mean about more "solo friendly". Some think that means that groups will be out of the question and soloing will be prevalent.
I don't think this is what they meant by "more solo friendly" at all. What i think it means is that there will be groups but your group will be able to take on more at a time. More epic battles, people covering each others butts while your group fights another group of mobs. Here let me make it a bit more clear:
FFXI: When you leveled many times your group would just kill "one" mob. Hacking on it forever, then dead... rinse and repeat.
FFXIV: Your group is fighting many more mobs at the same time, every melee taking on his own mob, or watching each others back, etc etc.Much more action.
Thats the way i see it. I just dont see square enix making a totally solo friendly game. Not when the "party" is a staple of the FF series.

If there is a subscription, then yes, I hope the game is more group-based. I don't need to pay a sub to play solo. There are much better single player RPGs out there that I can play for free.
Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.
of course it will have a subscription, probly 12.99 like FFXI.
i agree with everyone here, group play is the way to go and i think they are jus telling the newcommers that this game will have more solo content then FFXI, but probly not a heck of alot more.
honestly i only want a slight bit more of soloability, or like someone said "somthing to do while looking for a group.
the best add for me would be to have smaller sized groups be able to do more, so instead of the staple 6 party, we will hopefully see groups of 3, 4, 5, 6 ect. sometimes i just wanna do some stuff with a few friends and this seems like it will be possible on this game.
anyways being a 3-4year player of FFXI, im stoked to play 14, i cant wait...its killing me.
I don't know why they can't do both. So both the solo and group player base can be happy.
"I don't know why they can't do both. So both the solo and group player base can be happy"
Because we don't want nubs to hit maximum level. or more like we want to know who are we playing with in this server.
Groups teach people how to play togather, It prepares them for endgame. Skillchains , healing , tanking , supporting , controlling threat, communicating, being on top of your game and doing your rule right in a group. This is what FFXI was about. Groups were as good as the players in them, not the gear nor the classes.
leveling through solo or party means, were gonna play it like WOW (jk, not just wow), searching/fighting for equipments and rares..
From what I gathered with all the interviews so far, soloing will be viable. There will be paths through the game where you can get to "end game" solo as they put it, but they've also heavily hinted that grouping will give you more benefits. Not exactly sure how, but the XI team has always been keen about group playing, and they aim to keep it in XIV. Which isn't a bad thing mind you.
After playing a few other MMOs in the past 5 years, I'd have to say the most fun times were playing with other people. That's what the genre is all about of course and I'm glad S-E is keeping that thought train going.
I hope it's heavily group play otherwise no point in playing since solo play is all there is in the market right now.
honestly, i will always choose group play over solo play. I would only choose solo play if i had no groups to be with.
To me, the problem with FFXI wasn't that it was "forced" grouping. The problem was the logistics of grouping. Restrictive job/level requirements, travel methods and times, not being able to seek with one job while playing another, and even the LFP facility left a lot to be desired. That's the things people hated. I know level-sync fixed some of that although I didn't play when they implemented it so I can't say whether it was good or bad for the game.
If they can keep the heavy group dependency and yet make it easier for people to find and get into groups, then I think they'll make (almost) everyone happy.
actually i love the long travels in FFXI, gives it a realistic feel of exploration. the problem is you have to travel far to see the little things appealing to, and the surroundings around the little thing is just empty....
and SE has implemented alot of new features to FFIX which balance out the game time to get straight to the point such as level sync and field books. and about the jobs they changed that too, you just need one tank and combination of 2 half healers or 1 full healer and the rest of the squad could be any job. <--- the issue is if the players are good at playing or combinations of jobs in the squad to make the fighting processes faster (sounds typical to all MMO's).
really wat makes a MMO game enjoying is getting things done while you level solo and party (both), not how soon can we hit max level and try to keep up.

Q: What’s the appeal of FFXIV?
A: I would say that the key word for FFXIV is “growth.” We’ve already done the job system in XI, so this time we’re looking at new and interesting concepts for character growth. We hope you like it!: FFXI was built firmly on the premise of the party system, but FFXIV will try to be more supportive of solo play and any of the other varied things that users would like to do.
yeah they did.....either way it should be a solid game
To answer the question posed in the title, I for one HOPE it is all party based like FFXI, that was one of the things I loved.
I think you have been misinformed.
I'd go as far to say I WON'T play it if soloing is too easy and preferable to grouping.
I don't mind there being one or two solo classes, like beast master. But they have to actually work to get decent exp.
I actually like WoW, but if FFXIV turns into a WoW2 I won't play it because it will completely ruin the whole concept and theme of Final Fantasy.
Sorry to say,but he design of FFXIV means there is no way the game can be anything like FFXI.
One thing about FFXI,was the LS structure was brutal, the majority were just LS hopping looking for help rather than sticking around and offering help. This game seems to be leasing a lot more towards the guild structure, how wel lthey implement it ,is yet to be seen, but i think the leader will play too large a role. The whole purpose of a LS/guild is the group collective, not the leader.I noticed in the information so far,it shows the leader will be the one handing out witch Guildleves you do,i don't like that idea at all.
