WAR is truly great and is constantly getting better - hopefully we will see expansion next year bringing new elements to the rvr, maybe even 3rd "neutral" faction.
Originally posted by alithanar8 I have been in this game since the beginning (guild beta) and the system has been getting better: I have no unstable play times, the client is great, the endgame is going to become easier to access and with the last patch even more violent. With all these improvements and observations I believe WAR is going to get even better in a short period of time.
The game has been getting better, no doubt. I played from December till June and I was very hopeful & supportive, but unfortunately, Mythic just does not get it. The improvement has been way too slow. Trust me, both my friend & I saw the potential & really enjoyed RvR, certain class design mechanics, PQs, scenarios (total blast at first), tome unlocks, guild leveling and some other features. But the game was still crippled by the glaring problems.
I also doubt you are being honest about how long you played, as noone can objectively believe that the game will get better in a short amount of time. It is simply opposite of how Mythic has been approaching the problems.
The endgame still sucks. City siege design is retarded & boring. They are not hard to get to, never were, but they are just boring, repetitive & feel like a pointless grind. The first time I did a city siege, I instantly understood why so many players left in disappointment after reaching the endgame. The game client is still inferior. The balance is still lacking, RvR combat is still dominated by ranged AoE classes, while most melee single target DPS are still worthless.
I simply gave up on Mythic and so did most of the other players. That is the bottom line. I said to myself that I would return to the game if they ever made the progress they needed to, but it's already 4 months later and they are still far from it. Too many other fun games to try & play to deal with Warhammer anymore.

I wanted to give these guys a lot of chances. I gave these guys a lot of chances. Every time they seem like they are going in the right direction, one of them opens their mouth and it just makes me have to shake my head.
They are clearly trying. I'll give them that. But there are too many inherent problems with the game that will take a lot of work (and an overhaul) to fix completely. On top of that the minor fixes they keep trying to make seem to come close, but jsut miss the ball every single time. It's kind of painful to what a company with some really great ideas, come all this way and still overlook fundamentals of game design, clearly not fully understand the flaws of their own game. Even now.
The client perfomance is absolutely the worst I've ever seen.
Why?
The environment engine is manifest and live 2002. Viewing distance 500 feet, no distance-engine (like bitmaps or rough meshes) = viewing distance 500 feet hardcapped, no exceptions; Incredibly high poly-count for extremely low detail, temple of sigmar or bright wizards college look like from a 90's FPS. Plus; none of the modern GFK gimmicks (pixelshader, HDR, DX10 fog, you name it)...
Now, that would not at all be a problem, not - at - all: If the engine was rock solid and lightning fast. But it isn't, it's hiccuping like a mom with chorea, the framerate is dropping to a slideshow with 40 people or more -> on a 2009 rig. Any game I've played performed multiple times better and looked better. Even WoW, while ALSO featuring ultralow gfx-standards, was at least running 100 people Ogrimmar raids smooth like a babie's behind... ... in 2005... ... on my 2005 rig!! ! !
So we can happily state how fun PvP is (and it is fun), and say that during peak times you can definitely enjoy WAR, Nonetheless: Engine, performance, PvE and endgame-content (which is basically buggy-PvEvP) suck really, really hard...
Engine, performance, PvE and endgame-content are the only things lacking in WAR. You say the truth about all that. If EA Mythic can somehow manage those 3 key factors we can see WAR for how it should be. Engine performance is a major factor for success and for massive players to get on a certain Map at the sametime with no problems whatsoever. They really need to revamp the Engine or do something so its just more than 50 vs 50 fighting on a Map. The true essence of WAR should be able to fight Zerg vs Zerg without any problems. Other than that WAR is still getting better and I love WAR. Hopefully this 1.3.2 patch can answer all our prayers.
I personally think "next gen" of MMO games will take alot of things from WAR and improve on it. WIth better game engine and stable client that game would be liked by many. Specially if that game had any sort of AI for PVE content. WAR simply doesn't have one.
Not saying its not fun to log in - do few scenarios and kill some numbs. But I do that on trial accounts since its actually more fun that playing the top tiers. They simply suck and become very very annoying really fast.
Thats probably the best word to describe WAR.... Annoying.
Mythic created something to big to handle. They have to be one of most out of tune companies out there. They hardly listen to their playerbase, and they insist on doing shit their way to a tee. It's their game of course, but when your game is going to live or die... based on the people outside playing it. They should've of done a far greater job of bridging a compromise with it's own playerbase.
Jeff Hickman, has gone one record of saying the game's problems were because of easy PvE, and the economy they bestowed to the game. If that isn't the biggest load of shit i've ever heard... i don't know what is. And theres been plenty of shit spewed out of Mythic's mouth about this game. If people tried to get any REAL reason why this game is so far down the gutter, they love to beat around the bush. Paul Barnett was nitorious for this.. a man that could sell sand to someone that lived in the Sahara, he would just beat around the bush... and blame whining babies cause every game has them.
Then we get into the game itself, horridly coded beyond belief. Performance of War was just awefull, and for a game that looked not much better then say WoW, and looked worse then Aion.... that was really bad. And really didn't fly over well for alot of the players. Performance has improved, but it's still pretty sub par and laggy. The game play itself was bogged down alot, and didn't leave a very enjoyable expierence for many. Top this off with T4 RvR, and it was just amplified beyond the heaven's. Then put a layering of the insane amount of CC this game had. T4 was one of the most god awefull expierences one could have in a game. Again it has improved, but again still sub par. The removal of T4 fort's should provide a great amount of relief, and the CC changes is very welcomed. But all i can think of is.. a little to late Mythic... just a bit to late.
Then we get into job balance, which has been a huge issue with this game since beta. And all i can say is, whoever is in charge of maintaing job balance. Should simply be fired, they hardly listen to anyone. They have borked job's repeated times, and left job's needing attention in the dark for a long time. I was reading patch 1.3.2 notes a couple week's ago, and for example they have just now gave Blackguard the ability "Dark Protector", which is the equivalent to the Iron Breakers(Blackguard mirror) "Oath Friend". This class had been out close to a year now, and they just now give a gimped tank class in the game..... a simple basic ability just now?????? Kudo's to you Mythic!.... But you still have alot to fix, when it comes to job balance.
Then we get into the content of the game. The PvE in this game is just awefull.. nomore need's to be said about it. Yes I'm very well aware this a PvP focused game, but where they get off putting PvE in it then. If your going to.. atleast make some effort to make it enjoyable. Rather then bore people half to death, doing it. PQ's were fun, but very short lived. Dungeons were ok, but overall dull. Example Lost Vale was fun, but just like doing any other raid... like in any other game. It got way to boring doing it over and over again.
RvR content, was borderline crap in this game. Majority of the games scenarions were competely un inspired and dull. The ORvR map's felt confined and too linear. Taking out keep's and getting into big ORvR was great fun but at same time i kept feeling something is just missing... this could've been more epic. Then when a game is based on player population to have this fun, hurt servers helped ruin the fun. You got 2 server's now that are on their death bed Dark Crag (My home) and Phoenix Throne. Dark Crag has become really dreadfull.. when Order decided to run away and leave the game. There is barely any ORvR or even sc's now a day's and yes i could just start over on a more populated server. But i already got transfered to Dark Crag from Praag when Praag withered up and died. Plus all the work i've had put on more current character's, a lvl 40 Blackguard.. lvl 40 Zealot, and a lvl 35 Magus... with no server transfer's in sight. Cause Mythic is refusing to merge the last two special play set servers... fuck that. I rather take my time and money else where.
Then theres people going off saying... we need a third faction. Yea that would be nice but to many people playing Warhammer now are already set to deep into playing either Destro or Order. You will only further spread a already low population, and lead into more problems then this game currently has. Would've been a awesome from the very start of this game and helped it out bit.. but it's not viable now. Plus they suck at maintaing the job's they have now... just imagine if they had twelve more to worry about . Then people say, they should add the other races cities for more content. I agree they should, but only if their not part of city seiges.
Anyway's I hope one day they can turn this game around, and I'm glad people still find it enjoyable, cause i would hate to see this game be shut down. But i finally have had enough w/ Mythic, like many other's.
Yea well, I personally think they screwed up communication and population spreading right from the start. There were low/low servers from day 1 and even on super high pop servers people spread across the three campaigns and were left without any communication there.
NOW they introduce global help and RvR, NOW they introduce markers for PQs, that's just too late. When the game started in 2008, you were essentially left alone when you joined. You started with PvE and if you didn't decide to aggressively talk to people directly, you would - for 40 levels - not meet a soul.

For a second there I thought I was reading the AoC, SWG, Tabula Rasa or Vanguard boards....then I remembered what website this was.
IMHO not to many of you are being very specific but obviously harbor a deep dislike of an average game.
So...who is getting paid off to troll this game so hard on this site, the AION team?
