I was in beta, well my friends friend was, and his computer of d00// which can rule the world it's that awesome, couldn't even run this crappy game and the graphics are horrible and there is a memory leak, and oh yeah, the gameplay sucks too. This game is an epic fail as far a PvP goes too, it is the lamest evah!
That's why he quit beta so he could tell everyone to save their money.
Oh yeah, one last thing.....I wtfbbqroflmaocopterpwnzors j00!!!!111eleventyoneone

I was about to make a comment then caught the "fine print"
To each his own. My question would then be... Why pay for an IP if you are not willing to stay true to that IP?
You say that as if it's an all of nothing. There are many things I love about the Star Trek IP. There are also things I could care less about that are in Star Trek. I'd be paying for a Star Trek MMO. That means I'd be paying to play an online game with a large world of lots of other players, all inside of a Star Trek themed universe.
Bending or breaking canon with some trivial details is not going to make it any less enjoyable or any less worthwhile or valuable for me.
I'd not be paying for just the IP of Star Trek!
No YOU would not be paying for the IP. But Cryptic DID. And I would guess they paid a lot for it too.

Hehe, yeah it was just for fun and I think I almost hurt myself typing it, lol.
As for ST:O, I am gonna wait until a little more player info comes out and not just the propaganda machine info.
I see some things I really like, some other things that don't really grab me.

I too will reserve judgement on this. My biggest problem is the LoS not being broken by ships.
Yeah that's something that's bothering me too, and I'm hoping they'll fix that during beta. Otherwise I don't see much point in escorting missions if you can't even block attacks from enemies.
It is all about the same thing. And some where Rekhan stated that you cannot block line of sight with your ship.
Good catch! Thanks for the info on that. You are right, seems it was dropped due to the ability fo teh ships to pop up or down and all teh calculations it would take to do the LOS and constantly moving ships of different size, speed, and configuration.
Guess we will have to beta this and get a judgment call on it.
This is my first post here. I am really looking forward to play this game. I'm not hard core trekkie but i like ST very much. I believe STO will be a great game. The only thing that concern me is will everything they put in lunch work as it should, or for that matter will all they announce be there. I really wouldn't like to see another AOC case...

Why would LOS not be broken?
From cryptic studios:
"In order to fire a weapon you have to have a clear line of sight. Anything with collision between you and your target will block LOS. A asteriod.. space debris.. other ships.." that is found here: http://forums.startrekonline.com/showpost.php?p=609174&postcount=140
