This is info from bluehole studio

"We will develop the world's best MMORPG

The most talented team will develop the best game. The era of a single genius building a compelling game title has past. This is especially true in the case of a MMORPG project that requires a large team of developers, rigorously adhering to teamwork. From the start, Bluehole Studio searched to form a team of outstanding individuals, with the intention to offer them the opportunity to fully realize their potential. The greatest asset to this company is the people.

Graphics that inspire all to play

Attention for the end-user is paramount. Bluehole Studio dedicates its knowledge and passion to TERA. Bluehole aspires to present the user with an emotional impact, previously unrealized in a game. Driven to draw the admiration of users worldwide, TERA will offer high quality graphics, diverse choice of playable characters, and stunning animation and special effects.

Furthermore, TERA is built for the global market. The company is committed to provide an impressive game that exceeds the expectations of worldwide users. The visual quality of the game will be unrivaled.

    Action-like battles! Immersive Battles!

Facing the mob and repeatedly pressing a skill button is no longer exciting.

Even the unprecedented hit title, WoW, doesn't deviate from the traditional combat system.

TERA introduces a ground-breaking innovation to the MMORPG combat system.

From the start, the company hoped to realize a combat system that would set a new global standard. After careful consideration, it was decided that TERA's fight sequences should closely resemble real fight scenes. Hence, TERA will introduce omni-directional attacks, where distance and direction must be coordinated for weapons and spells to work; moreover, healers must continuously take new battle positions to cast spells. Also, depending on body weight ratio between a mob and player, an enemy hit will register a fall-back reflect. These are some of the innovative features in TERA.

Also, unlike games that claim to be a MMORPG by emphasizing action-style gameplay, TERA does not utilize zoning (section loading). All users will seamlessly move throughout the world, sharing a singular combat experience. Moreover, the foundation for the innovative combat system originates from the robust client/server technology. This breakthrough technology is one of the many revolutionary features developed by Bluehole to enhance the end-user experience.

    Epic-sized content, re-enforced community system!

MMORPG is a game enjoyed simultaneously by numerous players. For long-term enjoyment, initial content volume must be augmented on a timely basis. TERA will appeal to end-users seeking continuous content support without the sacrifice of high quality graphics. Even after a week¡¦ a month¡¦ a year¡¦ the game will pull the player deeper to the virtual world.

The goal is to achieve the world's highest concurrent user load per server!

Players in TERA will not only experience battles with higher concurrent users, but also encounter a revolutionized interaction system for political and economic professions. TERA will offer a stable, non-disruptive in-game social life.

    And More...

Development of TERA started in 2007. The projected budget and human resource requirements exceeded industry norms.

Early 2008, completed the proof of concept in graphics and combat system(both key pre-requisite elements for a flagship MMORPG).

With the key elements in place, what else is left to develop?

Plenty. The development of an epic sized content is a monumental task.

Right now, if you are reader with a passion for game development,

If you ever started a game project with a passion, then later, were denied to see it to completion,

If you wish to learn from seasoned professionals,

If you wish to experience a MMORPG production with our distinguished team of developers and artists."

I do like how there is no auto targeting and you're in full control over your character.  My main concern is risk/vs reward for pvp and end game content.  I look forward to more information about the game as beta gets closer.

Looks like what TCoS SHOULD have been. Very impressed so far with the trailers.

If it promises some action-packed PvP as well, I will surely try it out.

Yes I to will definatly try as long as they mage it both pve and pvp. I like my pvp when I want to do it and not be forced to full pvp all the time. Some may say carebear I say I just like to have different types in the same game. Somedays I just want to go out and wander arround the world explorering or questing. Anyhow I hope they are able to apeal to many types of players.

Well, it look like monster hunter, but online. The other race if its not human are really bad excluding the big one i saw with the shield and spear.(well i think it was a spear dont remember. And again, they want to make a race that is out place. I mean a gnome like race or something. He look like a racoon.

The game dont really feel fast paced and tahts why i left monster hunter or phantazy star online. I bet that the lvling up will be a grind. I think its the kind of game i could compar more with diablo 3. So i will buy diablo 3 since its free, but i will never play that game unless its free lol.

D3 is NOT an MMO, hence, is free.

TERA is a AAA MMO, hence P2P.

Why do you all keep saying D2, D3, Hellgate, ect. are MMOs?

Sig so that badges don't eat my posts.

The one thing I want to know is how the game handles grouping...Really tired of soloing being the standard until you hit end-game...

Is Tera anything like what the fabled Lineage 3 was going to be like?

    image

  • etineletinel Member Posts: 9

If I had to guess, yes it will be like what Lineage 3 would have been. I think a lot of NCsoft's team left for Blue Hole Studios after the code leak and after one of the senior game devs got fired. I'm not sure if this uses any of the source code from Lineage 3, but if it doesnt reuse any of the code, i'm sure it would be pretty similar in design.

There is a youtube video of a bunch of.. bears or ewoks or something, going about killing things in (what was labeled as) an endgame scenario.  From the looks of it, the region they were in contained nothing but mobs that took up more than their fair share of the screen, and required ten minutes of kiting and a handful of these furries to take down.  Looked like every asian monster hunteresque title that is already out.

The main reason monstors are large in TERA is to make them an easy target, as there is no targeting system and you actually have to aim. Kiting is also pretty important as most attacks from monsters have directional AOE's.  Thats the major selling point of this game really. Its action based, not just autotarget and click.

So you watched a short video of some mobs and now the entire game looks like every asian title out there? What a dumb statement. Stay away from Tera and the community please.
