When i first heard of this game i was instantly turned off by just the "looks" of it. It looked like another grindfest, point and click L2 clone. But after reading and hearing some reviews ive heard its pretty good. My favorite MMO's were, early release WoW and DAoC. And darkfall for while it lasted
But for the people that play it i have a few questions...
1. Are there alot of classes, diversity?
2. Is the world big? Can you move in the water? ( you cant in L2) Can you scale up mountains like in WoW? How restricted is the enviroment your in?
3. Is the game point and click oriented or WASD?
4. What is the main course for leveling? Is it a grindfest? ( i dont mind too much if theres a good bit of questing)
5. Is there alot of weapons / armor diversity? I HATED l2 because you got mabye 1 set of armor / weapons for every 10 levels.
6. Are there the classic dungeons with bosses at the end? And are they instanced?
7. The most important question, is the game overall fun?
Ive been bleeding for so long looking for a good MMO. I loved darkfall for while it lasted, but now its time to move on.
thanks for taking the time to answer my questions for those who care.

Ok, I haven't played the game for long, but these are the only ones I can answer.
1. Not really, the classes are watered down, but have a nice flare too them. you choose a small pick at first and then they branch at level 10.
2. As far as I know yes, for as much as I played it was big enough, kind of like Guild Wars style, moving in water, I think you can, I can't remember all that well. The maps can be very big and yes you can scale mountains they have paths for that lol.
3. Both. Yes it's WASD is great.
4. Actually no, this game is chopped full of quest's. Believe me, you'll feel right at home.
5. Yes. Crafting is heavily based on this.
Played - M59, EQOA, EQ, EQ2, PS, SWG[Favorite], DAoC, UO, RS, MXO, CoH/CoV, TR, FFXI, FoM, WoW, Eve, Rift, SWTOR, TSW.
Playing - PS2, AoW, GW2
Ok since I have not gone to the game end. ( I don't anyone has reached 50 to be honest) I'll try to give honest answers.
1. There are 4 classes. Each class has 2 trees at level 10.
2.The world is fairly big with several "continents". No you cannot swim. You can walk through the water but will be damaged if your head goes under the water.
3.WASD
4.Leveling until mid 20's is mostly quest. Later it changes to pvp based with some quest and grinds.
5.A fair amount of armor and weapons. Seems to be about 3 set or so per 10 levels.
6.I can't say as i haven't done any of the instances or end content
7.Well I personally am having a blast. More fun than I've had in a long time. And if you check my game list I've played over 40 online games.
Well hope that helps. Best i could do. Thats my 2 cents worth, your mileage may vary.
I'm old not dead. (Nov8tr is pronounced innovator)
mm your expectation for a new mmo are too high go play wow 3 more years then try aion
its an mmo
not a gold casted mmo
go play it yourself no one can think for you
First off the game is still kinda new so it doesn't offer as much as other games right now. More stuff will be added with expansions and such.
1. Right now in the begining you pick from 4 classes. At lvl 10 you get to pick from 2 classes that are in your class tree. For example Warrior can become a Templar or Gladiator, Scout can become a Ranger or an Assassin, Mage can become a Spiritmaster or a Sorcerer, and a Priest can become a Cleric or a Chanter. As for Diversity, there are your favorite classes Sorcerer and Assassin but you still see many other classes around.
2. The world isn't open like WoW is. It is zoned but the zones are very big compared to other MMOs that are zoned. People have found some secret areas in the game that you aren't really supposed to go but its fun. Right now there is no swimming....
3. It is both. You can turn off click to move.
4. There are tons of quests. Later on in higher leaves there are many group quests that can get annoying.
5. There are a lot of weapons and armor. You can find armor and weapons off mobs, quests, and crafting.
6. There are a couple of instanced dungeons that have bosses at the end and fortress sieges that are a lot of fun and get even better in higher levels.
7. I have been having a blast!
Over all the game really doesn't have much towards new things but it is very polished and fun.
I suggest you go to http://powerwiki.na.aiononline.com/aion/ to learn more.
Thanks for the info guys.. Im | | close to buying the game.
Few more questions.
Is there weather?
And how does PvP work? Is there any type of large scale pvp?
what? Of course you can swim in L2.

yes there is weather and your character interacts with the weather when Idle. For example if you you encounter rain or snow, your character takes this huge leaf out of no where and holds it above its head for cover. But other then that the weather is just for show.
When you get to around lvl 20, you can head to the lvl 20 zone and encounter things called Rifts where you can go to the other faction and fight or you can stay and protect your side. When you get to lvl 25 you are able to go the Abyss is where the PvP gets to a large scale. You, your other faction, and the Balaur (the computer controled faction) fight in PvPvE.
1. There are 8 classes shared by both sides. Both sides have 1 race.
2. The world seemed pretty big, yet it didnt seem like a sandbox. It is pretty clear, that theres only one way to go while leveling.
3. The way that the terrible camera is working, you automatically choose point and click... sadly.
4. The quest are as any other MMO, and the grind is nonexistant up until level 10 at least.
5. The overall artwork is terrible, and the amount of differentiation in styles is limited.
6. I dont know. I got seriously bored with the game at level 10 and gave up when the login-queues was aprox. 3 hours.
7. The game is NOT fun. I didnt see any pvp, no instances.... just a lot of quest.
It has a lot of cons, and all of its pros are done better in wow... sadly. The ONLY thing that is amazing is the character creation.
3. The way that the terrible camera is working, you automatically choose point and click... sadly.
No it isn't on by default. You may choose to turn this feature ON if you wish so. Edit: click move is not on by default . If you mean that attacking a mob will make your toon run up to it into range, that is a godsend for melee, it saves a lot of tedium.
5. The overall artwork is terrible, and the amount of differentiation in styles is limited.
Ummm, if there is one thing even trolls (usually) agree on is that graphically the game is beautiful. Combat is extremely well done. Mobs recoil when you hit them. You can be knocked back, when it wears off you jump right on your feet kung-fu style ... etc. Beatiful particle effects for slashing damages.
7. The game is NOT fun. I didnt see any pvp, no instances.... just a lot of quest.
Why would you expect both PvP and instances in the introductory zone? Just learn to play first then you later you can PvP and instance to your heart content.
But there is a goal, getting to a higher level.
the goal of leveling is to learn the character, spend some quality time with it, get emotionally attached to it - then you can PvP and do more difficult stuff.
if all you want is switch a character on the fly - well there are many games that allow you to do that, for example Team Fortress etc ... and I don't mean that in a negative way. There are quick pickup games, and there are games where you build an online persona that has some type of permanence to it.
If you don't like the latter approach, well RPG-MMOs may not be not for you. Is that simple.

Did you even take the time to read my post?
I'm gonna jump in here, Zeelot - what level did you get up to?
The reason there is no pvp before level 20 is because you will suck so bad at it after 10 minutes you will rage quit aion
there is a goal, did you even read the quests you got? you're trying to find out who you are and what role you have to play in the game.
the story is done VERY well in aion, far better than WoW delivers its storyline
You should also be leveling with the goal to pwn the other faction, you're not going to kill many people in pvp if you're only level 5.
also, I play Elyos (so unsure about asmo) but so far the grind has been very very minimal, i'm level 32 and I've probably quested about 80% of the time, pvped 5%, done dungeons 5% and grinded 10%
Lets all just agree to disagree. I dont like the game - you like it. End of line.
