Hello everyone.  I am quite happy with my computer but just to get some imput on if it would behove me to make any upgrades at this time. Using Vista 32 bit,  Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz (2 CPUs),  Asus Striker II nForce 780i SLI, Nvidia GeForce GTX 280,  and heres the thing,  I just now noticed, and wonder if this ram set up makes any difference. I just saw that in my four slots I have in slot one and two, ;one gig each, PC2-5300 (333 MHz) and in slots three and four I have one gig each,  PC-6400 (400 MHz). I wonder if this would have any effect on anything? Like I said I am happy with this but not being "Joe" computer nerd expert thought I would ask people more knowlegable then me. Thanks all for taking the time to answer.

Remeber, game till you bleed.

the upgrade from 5300-8500 might yield a small performance boost but as most of your ram is 6400 it's not worth it

i wouldn't bother upgrading that pc till you start struggling with modern games

If you mix memory speeds, all your ram will run on the speed of the lowest. So in your case all 4 are running on 333 MHz.

If your PC-6400 bars have a good cas latency (usually printed on the label), it's possible that your pc would run slightly faster by taking out the slower ram. But beware! Changing ram configurations on an MS platform can cause serious problems, so always back everything up before making alterations!

If you are wondering about hardware upgrade, a quad core cpu would be the first thing to get.

Second and very important note is that you should really install 64 bit version of vista, with 32 bit you are wasting much of your RAM. The same serial should work for 64 bit, you just need to get the media from somewhere.

In the MMO world your PC is CPU limited, but still pretty good.  Memory speed in itself will net nothing, latency makes a difference but we're into the 1-2% region.  Go to an i5 setup and just sit back, it really is the MMO CPU since it thottles unused cores to the ones being pegged.  Since MMOs are notoriously single threaded, sometimes poorly dual thread... its ideal.  For now though I'll keep my Phenom II X2, the other MMO CPU :D

At the moment, your hardware is completely fine. That said, I believe Intel is going to be heavily slashing the prices on the Core 2s before too long, so getting a quad core a year or so down the road is probably advisable.

don't mess with a quad. You don't need it, and probably won't any time soon.

When you DO decide to do that major of an upgrade, just build a new rig.

An 1156 board with an ati 5850 are what my next build is gonna be based on. and it is gonna be mATX.

upgrade to some low latency G.Skill 800mhz ram (pc2 6400) and you WILL see an increase in performance.

    2 x 2gb of that stuff is $80 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231209

I thought about building you a boat to survive the river of tears I'm crying for you, but the world's smallest violins just aren't a reliable source of lumber, and that cross you're nailing yourself to seems bouyant enough anyways.

as long as you put your ram pair in proper slot your good

wrong slot = no ddr2 since they work in pair

Wrong. That means no dual channel.

New PC games can utilize quad core processors...  If  age of conan is then I'm sure lots others are as well, I think if you have the option to buy a quad then you should because in the end 4 is better then 2 very much so if you are like me and have bunch of different things running on your machine.
