I'm planning to get this game as it doesn't seem so stuck-to-ground like all the latest MMORPGs. From what I've read, this game sounds a lot like old school MMORPGs which I actually enjoy, and I can't help but get SWG in my head when thinking about this game. Truly did I like that MMORPG (Pre-NG), the only one I could confidently say "that game was great".
Anyhow, am I expecting something wrong? To make it easier, which MMORPG player would you say this game fits most. I could bring these five games into play: WoW crowd, Lineage 2 crowd, EvE crowd or SWG, UO etc. etc. crowd. By crowd I mean people who enjoy the specific gameplay to these games. If none, then could you bring up what you enjoy so much about the game and why? Dislikes?
I'm not the best at getting organized texts, so here comes a last question. Does it have instances/dungeons?

True, and to be honest I feel the same way playing FE as I did when I played SWG pre NGE.. I think its because of all the great things you could do... and yes the crafting is different and not as expansive as in SWG, but 2 weeks out and I feel the game already has less bugs and balance issues then SWG pre-nge ever did.
I'd place it in the EVE / SWG (Orig) / UO type bracket.
The game is deep, almost overwhelming in some cases.
It is hard to classify what any one player would like, but I think if you found fun in the original SWG or even UO before they bastardized it into 2D WoW... Then you'd probably like FE.
Hey TSW Players http://www.unfair.co/ for Mission guides, Lore Locations and stuff....
I'm full aware that no game ever will capture that special first moments we experienced, but that goes for almost everything. I can not help to think back of these times though, nostalgia is a part of our lives. You're right that a lot of people do the misstake by having such high hopes for a new upcoming game, it leads to dissapointment nearly every time as long as you're not a major fan. Oh, the good young times (I'm sitll young though). After playing so many games, the high expectations I had before have been choked, disappointment after disappointment. Either it turns out to be completely different to what you had in mind or the classic "same old same old" case.
Thanks for the reply, I still have some doubts though. Recently read how easy the combat is, I wouldn't like it if this game is almost full on crafting with no effort put to the PvE. I don't want to solo everything, I liked how you formed massive parties in SWG, and that's maybe a reason why I play MMORPGs. Thinking the PvP part might be quite awesome in the game, but for me, PvE is quite essential.

Here is the way I look at the current state of the PvE and others may disagree but here goes. We are only at level 45 right now as far as cap and the devs have stated a cap of 150 has been planned. S4 is done almost and 5 already being worked on. So in theory you can look at the first levels as the game in its infancy and will mature more and more. For lack of a better comparison from a pve standpoint....its like being in Elwynn Forest in WOW and just getting to Westfall. You needed zero groups and could solo anything but you also have only seen a small portion of the game.
On the other hand you could just see what is in front of you and not over the hill top and say its to easy.
This game definitely sounds like something. However, in your opinion, do you think it would be better to wait out until the apple hanging from the tree has turned red? Or could I rather just start now, right away, and have plenty of stuff to do until I have reached lv 45, as that is the max for now of what I understood? What do you mean by S1, S2, S3, S4 etc.? I am not aware of these As. Oh, I meant abbreviations.
How long does it take to reach lv45 though. If the initial planned cap was 150, then what, not even half of the game is finished? A lot of the levels seems missing, but how much of the actual content is? I wouldn't mind so much about the levels as long as you got stuff to do all the way up, unlike darkfall (of what I have heard, not actually experienced it myself, but after all hate and failfail comments on it I don't really get the feeling to try it out.)

Hey man, thanks for taking your time answering. Ill definitely buy the game on friday or during the weekend, and Ill see fo sho if I like it or not. Sometimes I cant help but turn my eyes on the negative crowd and really wonder if somethings worth getting, but I mustnt forget how many actually have positive views. I could be one of them, but then it could also turn out to be a disappointment. $49 may not be much, but money is money. I always get horrible feelings of regrets when Ive made a misstake on something I bought although such small sums.
Anyway, see you in the game some time (maybe)

I would like to add one little thing: Last night I actually ran out of quests . . . and my reaction was: "Yes more time to do stuff!" not what you usually see in new MMOs "what now?"
The game is deep and its build around you having something to do all the time without HAVING to do quests. You don't just automatically progress, often you have to seek out trainers of specific stuff.
On the other hand you progress constantly, the only things levels does is to increase caps on your abilities ( and a tiny amount of hits) but you constantly gain APs which you use to buy Stats, skills and powers and its up to you to balance how you spend your points, skills give fast easy progression in a single element but stats give expensive but broad increases. Its your choice.
If you have ever played GURPS compared to D&D then you will understand the difference between FE and most new MMOs.
"You are the hero our legends have foretold will save our tribe, therefore please go kill 10 pigs."
Alot of gamemakers announce their plans to have an expansion and that doesn't in itself make it incomplete.
I remember something that Blizzard pretty early stated something about that they will do, or that they will atleast do, 3 expansions. But that didn't mean they didn't release a finished product.
It's kind of hard maybe, but relasing to much information about what is planned vs to release nothing. On one side there is the thought that you express vs perhaps something like they don't have anything planned for the game.
I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.
"You have the right not to be killed"
I have to ask if you buy characters?
You just ruled out every possibilty to level, or gain skills, whatever the games solution is to advance characters. (As you said not even doing "Just press M, find the red cross, travel, kill, go back." is an option. Nor seemingly the other obvious choice, pure grinding.)

Cinematics? So I can sit there and watch some stupid cutscene for 5 minutes? No thank you. I like to play my games, not watch them. And I am not illiterate, so I am able to read quest texts.
I think this is the first MMO I have ever played that I don't watch the xp bar (circle). I have 2 toons right now (lvl 5 and level 3) with about 5-6 hours play time. I am really enjoying just exploring and scavenging for materials. I don't feel the need to level fast as the game is just fun to play even with the controls being wonky (its not a true shooter by the way). Quest dialogues are short and interesting so I don't mind reading them.
My level 3 toon is going to be crafting only if I can help it and will provide stuff for my main and sell stuff at auction.
To be honest the graphics really are not horrible I only wish the would redo animations a fix technical problems. to make the game feel more solid.
Playing: Tera, BF3, ME3
Waiting on: Guild Wars 2
