... Yes, I've heard about that. Its one of the reasons that Blizzard has added digital authenticators to their system. I've not heard of anyone losing an account protected by one. I wish more games had that option.
Your NCsoft account and your Aion account are different. That means that, if people are smart, they have kept those two different. If the game account is somewhat compromised, all they need to do is use the NCsoft account to enter the account page and change the game account.
I knew the game was seriously flawed, but still bought it, with lowered expectations and the hope I'd get at least two months of fun out of it.
Level 35 now, two weeks in. I had fun for a while, but now I can't find fun any where.
I think we can all accept that AoC and WAR are seriously flawed titles. I got a lot more fun play out of each of those titles than I've been able to squeeze out of Aion. Aion is complete MMORPG Junk Food. It may taste good at first, but it's all empty calories and will leave you with some serious indigestion.
I know a lot of people are still excited, but think back to the opening month for AoC and WAR. People were still pretty hyped up about those games long enough to pay for at least one more month. It takes time for the flaws of a game to become obvious and the fun provided by the novelty of a new experience to wear off.
Aion is just another overly-hyped, but fatally flawed entry into the MMORPG market. A lot of MMORPG developers seem able to go through the motions and produce a title that looks good on the surface, but no one in recent years seems to be able to succeed when it comes to overall design, content and world design.
The template is flawed. WoW worked because it had the proper mix of many elements. Since the release of WoW, most MMORPG efforts have borrowed many elements from WoW, but they have failed at assembling individual elements into a successful whole. I totally agree with the OP , the economy of the game will never recover when you have bots that can farm 24/7 with mouse click programs and then sellers that sell 24/7 , not to mention the lack of enjoyment when you can't even get a group due to the spam in the looking for group channel , oh also you got mail ... nope its gold spam again ... whispers ... gold spam ... its never ending

Yeah. Plus the way that cash flow increases exponentially as you level just compounds the issue. There are already huge inflationary pressures with out gold sellers throwing their own monkey wrench into the economy.
Just about every design flaw that you can think of that would make the game economy vulnerable to destruction at the hands of gold sellers exists in Aion. Add in the fact that NCSoft West is underfunded and understaffed and you end up with a situation where Gold Sellers, bots and farmers have free reign.
Heck, prime time play hours for farmers are during the window when NCSoft West has ZERO support available. You can't even report abuses for future action. The reporting system is shut down I believe 11 hours out of the day!
Lineage 2 in the West was crippled by bots, farmers and spammers. NCSoft had a huge hill to climb in order to convince people that Aion would be different. You aren't going to convince anyone Aion will be any different by failing to provide well staffed, 24 hour GM support, or even a reporting mechanism for hours when there are no live GMs.
Someone at NCSoft is pennywise and pound foolish. I guess it's understandable after Richard Garriot fleeced them out of over $100 million is completely wasted funding for Tabula Rasa. I think they are very gun shy about investing any money into the Western market, even if underfunding leads to larger losses.
If gold spammers an a few bots are Aions big problems I think they are still ahead of other mmos that have been released these past few years. Seems like these issues would be easy to fix, and I saw a post earlier showing a bunch of gold spamers getting baned. I will be waiting a while before I consider buyinh the game, but I think they will be able to get better.
They will get a Handle on gold spammers; it's just going to take a little time to get into their nitch. But if that’s the biggest bitch about this game, they are ahead of the game. Their Numbers are climbing, they are on a roll. Till they get the spammers under control, I will continue to block them as they come in. annoying, but I can deal with it.
I am in agreement that if you don't like a game, don't play it. Move on. The people who like the game don't care why you quit. That goes for EVERY game not just this one.
People love to bash the latest MMO, this is no different. The time the people spend whining and crying about a game they DON'T want to play would be better spent playing a game you DO like.
Some people dont get it, and i agree with the OP. You say the bots doesnt boder you right?
K, well everything u craft, sell, buy is inflicted by bots, so the more they are, more of everything u do worths less, on top of that normal player started to bot it all over(see Aionsource), some just because they are lasy, some to do experiments to see if NC Soft bans them. Of course all fail.
Is a flawed korean grind, totaly inferior to War and AOC, but you dont even get the chance to play it normaly. Queue, massive influx of farmed materials hit the auction house, and there is NOO GM, Community Managers, activity from developers on the Europe Forums. If they wanted to do something they woulded be prepared at launch, they werent.
I am out. The scammed me two times, first with Lineage 2 who was a decent game with great high end content which they destroyed it completly, IT FULL OF BOTS, corrupt GMS etc, and Aion now.

Actually, you may not be aware of exactly how damaging gold sellers and bots can be to an MMORPG. Once the gold farmers and their bots take control of the in-game market, they will hike up the price of everything on the AH which will make buying gold mandatory, if a player wants to stay competitive. Kind of like the current situation in Lineage 2. Hey, another game by NCSoft...
When I played the Chinese version of Aion, bots were everywhere. They would run around in packs of 2-3 and kill steal everything in sight. It was almost impossible to do a kill X quest because the bots would kill steal the mobs. Especially with Aion's silly kill rights being awarded to the person or group who did the highest damage, which practically beg for griefing. Imagine attacking a mob and having a 3 bot group run up and kill it. They get the credit, you get absolutely nothing. Now rinse and repeat. That was pretty much my experience in Chinese Aion.
While I'm sure that, currently, it's not as bad in the US as it is in China or Korea, it's getting there.
Don't bother buying this game, because NCSoft doesn't care about your in-game experience. Buy the box and they're happy. Soon most of their monthly subscription fees are going to be from farming bots and spammers! Maybe the gold sellers will buy gold from each other after the players are gone.
Question for you, Sovrath... and I ask this with no sarcasm or anyting like that intended...
Knowing NCSoft's history of doing a lot of "sure we hate RMT and botting" PR talk, but doing next to nothing to actually combat it in Lineage 2... How much faith do you really put in anything they say regarding Aion?
Personally, I don't believe a word they say. I'll believe it when I see them doing a lot more than talking tough. They did a lot of "talking tough" regarding the botting/RMT in L2 as well, as the farmers ran rampant right under their noses.
Further, after seeing what measures Square Enix took, and continue to take, in FFXI to aggressively combat RMT/botting, and the drastic difference it's made in that game, I'm far less sympathetic to other companies when they say "we're doing our best... really!" *Especially* NCSoft. Action, not words.

Yes, gold farmers/spammers can cause a serious mess - L2 is a prime example of that no doubt. But Aion has a small advantage over L2 and that is there is no open world PvP amongst same faction players. They trashed L2 economy because you had no choice but buy the items you wanted from them, at their high prices, with their gold - not because they were in the game, but because they were allowed to control it all.
I played a bounty hunter in L2, and believe me when I say, the farmers controlled the drops in every grid block in the game. If you stepped into one of their farm grids you had better be ready to defend your choice to walk there. They would gang up and destroy you the second you picked your first mob to hit. Once they forced all the players away from farming their own drops it was just a matter of time before they controlled the entire economy.
As long as Aion doesn't allow them the chance to kill anyone who walks into their farm grids they can be relatively ignored. The only problem they cause with the economy then is not them as much as it is the buyers. The more people feed them RL cash for in-game kinah, the more the economy becomes unstable, but in the other direction usually. You flood the market with cash and everything becomes worthless trash except the very high end gear that soon becomes unreachable in price. This makes the 'competitive' people the only ones that have to buy kinah to stay in their tier.
Right now the problem is there are too many people who are trying to force end game that are willing to dish out $30 for extra kinah. If they would stop buying there wouldn't be a market for the farmers to sell in. We as players blame NCSoft for letting the problem be there, in reality it is us that is creating the mess from them. Stop feeding them, it really is that simple. Block them, ignore them, DON'T BUY FROM THEM, and they will go away.

Given the opportunity, some people will always take the easy way out. Those are the same type of people who use cheats or hacks to their advantage and there is no stopping them. There is no use trying to appeal to their better nature as most of them do not see anything wrong with their behavior.
You say that we're to blame because some of us buy gold? I say NCSoft is to blame for not protecting the rest of us from those who buy gold or use exploits. In short, gamers as a group, cannot be trusted to police themselves because for every honest gamer, there are at least two douche bags out there who see nothing wrong with buying gold or cheating. And there is nothing you or me, as fellow gamers, can do about them. The only people who can are developers and publishers.
I made the mistake of buying Aion. Pre-order. Collector's Edition. I want my money back! Aion could be an awesome game, IF they would do something about the bots and gold spamming. But apparently NCSoft has a deal with the gold-spammers that goes something like "Pay our monthly fee and we'll look the other way while you flood the channels with spam and flood the servers with farming bots." This morning NCSoft released a patch to prevent new toons from whispering prior to reaching level five. They had previously done the same thing to keep you from using the general channels. Did it help stop the spam? Uh... not even close. Then they posted a message claiming that they are banning spammers. Really? Then why are the spammers using the exact same characters that they were using last week to spam me? I cleared a few out of my block list, and within minutes they were whispering the same spam to me... days later! NCSoft can clain all they want that they have GMs actively monitoring chat and banning spammers, but it's pretty obvious that they're not doing it on MY server! I can't report bots in game. When I try to use it I'm told I can't do that at this time. Submit a ticket to the support website? Sure, and maybe hear back from someone in a week. So, no... NCSoft is not taking any action to stop the spam or the bots. The result is the in-game economy is never going to be viable. Don't bother buying this game, because NCSoft doesn't care about your in-game experience. Buy the box and they're happy. Soon most of their monthly subscription fees are going to be from farming bots and spammers! Maybe the gold sellers will buy gold from each other after the players are gone.
They ARE making steps to fix it if you were paying attention at all
All I see here is another QQ post of someone quitting. All I have to say is don't let the door hit you on the way out.
One less QQ on the forums.. aion is already becoming more and more successful
Its not crying, it sounds a lot like this person has legit concerns and a legit reason for leaving. He is annoyed and frusterated with an aspect of the game. You however sound a lot like a fanboy. If he doesnt see any reason to quit then he should be able to quit without you hounding him for it. He should also be able to get on a forum and post his said concerns without you hounding him for them as well. No i dont know this person and no I dont play Aion or WoW or any Sword and Sorcery competitor for that matter. I'm just using common sense and reading other people saying very similar things from what the OP said. So it's obviously a problem in the game, you need to chill and stop being rude just because someone doesnt like what you like.
I just fail to understand how someone who doesn't like the game will just come in and say "Im quitting"... and then not expect flaming responses.
Seriously... you think anyone here gives a flying shit if this guy quits? Of course not...
I don't care if he likes what I like but Im very sick and tired of reading every second post of "QQ - I don't like this game and blah blah". Seriously the MMO community is the absolute WORST in terms of this. If tears could be re-used for gasoline, we could drive cars for the next 100 years off this site alone.

Yes, the buyers ARE the key to the demand. Absent them there would be no demand for the sellers to make money off of. But the buyers aren't going away. Not unless NCsoft makes it VERY risky to buy. If buyers faced a perma ban on their accounts for buying, it would put a serious dent in the demand. NCsoft could go about this several ways. One of the nastier would be sting operations. That would make it so that buyers never know if they are dealing with sellers, or NCsoft agents who are making lists. Collect the lists over the week and then mass perma ban those on the list at the weeks end. Change the name/class of the NCsoft agents and get ready for the next week.
They could also work to infiltrate the sellers groups. There are any number of counter seller operations they could run if they wished to. But those take money and skilled personnel, and I seriously doubt NCsoft wants to invest in what it would take to break the back of the sellers. Talk is cheap. Effective action takes thought, planning, experienced/skilled personnel and thus money. Look for more tough *talk* from NCsoft, and very little effective action in the end.
So if Aion is getting massively bot-happy... does this mean I can expect to get my copy of Aion, 5 months from now for 19.99 or less? So long as it doesn't end up in the same bargain bin as Tabula Rasa... lol.

So long as it doesn't end up in the same bargain bin as Tabula Rasa... lol.

Sadly I wasted my money on this game. Level 25 and already bored. What were they thinking?
If your looking to bide your interests into a MMO, please look elsewhere. Not worth it.
Sadly Age of Conan (at launch even) kept my interest further than this average asian grinder.
To the OP: I played L2 and learned not to buy anything from NCSoft. I haven't got Aion and i won't.
Furthermore is an average asian grinder like many others that are f2p, from what i guess from reviews, comments and videos. Blegh.
It is a question of fangs.
