Four old geezers sit around a table at Denneys for our monthly dinner where the discussion focused on was the YADA YADA of the latest and greatest game that we wanted to try out. Each of us has a preference in what we do in game play (marketing, combat, crafting and Jack of all trades). For us, such elements as graphics, lag, and bugs take a back seat when rating a game for its worth. Do not get me wrong these factors play into our decision; it’s just that the best game on the market will lose our interest if we are not playing or advancing together. We hooked up during the Launch of Eve when it was learned that the four of us lived within 50 miles of each other and we been playing games ever since then.
Now, we can complain all day long about which games have less of what and need more of that however, with the right group of people every game has potential. We have had more laughs, fights and good times with every game played, just different kinds of…fun. We can flame on game sights that get us nowhere in the end but our time is best spent destroying the forces of evil [both foreign and domestic]. The discussion last night (which ended 3 hours later, much to short of time for me) was about rating games…our way. Without further ado; I present our rating list of Games For Little Boys Just Growing Up.
#1. The Game That Cost Us The Most In Real Life Award goes to Eve Online.
Before all the neat little conveniences allocated to this game, many nights of were spent mining for dollars or ISK to buy one of us a new ship. Midnight calls reporting attacks from other corps became almost regular, setting alarm clocks in order to start new skills were common and sick days were called in for the next patch. Threats of job lost came close as each of us spent time at work researching how we can become a stronger force with company computers. Relationships were put to the test as we often fell asleep at the keyboards mining until the wee hours. Not to mention the neglect of loved ones in order to play “Kill the DJ on Eve Radio”.
#1. Whose Side Are You On Award goes to Darkfall.
Love it or Hate it, there is something heart filling when you turn on the friendly fire mechanism. While we would never admit it, this game kept us guessing of our loyalty to each other. Whenever one of us took it in the back the real question was “did he do it by accident or did I say something to piss him off”. One thing is certain; Darkfall brought us a new concept of brotherly love.
#1. The Longest Yard Award goes to World of Warcarft.
There was a time in battle grounds Alterac Valley battles would not end until the General of the opposing force was dead. We once played a session that lasted over five hours leaving our finger tips bleeding and our bladders full. I have to admit, this was the first time after a win that I actually stood up and yelled at my computer screen announcing our victory (as if the other team players could hear me…go figure).
#1. What You Do With A Drunken Sailor Award goes to Pirates Of The Burning Sea.
POTBS allowed us the “proverbial game moment of pause” to…indulge ourselves in spirits and/or malt. On one particular night a fellow group member had…over indulged himself and became in conflict with a GM. Ok, so it may have been more than one of us but, that is not the point. After the verbal conflict was completed and feeling we had somehow “won” the argument, we learned that the person who was most intoxicated lost his account. The thing was that we didn’t know our bro was kicked from the server for over an hour. We just thought he stopped chatting in game to cherish the victory.
By now your all saying, “Whats your point Seabeast???? Simply this, there is a reason they call it MMORPG which is because it allows for many players to play on the same server at the same time. The game itself is least as important as the people one plays with. For me, the game is only as good as the people that play it NOT THE BUGS, LAUNCH OR GRAFICS. No game sucks or is better than another. I’ll take stick -men toons and 1999 graphics over 10000 people complaining about the latest and greatest features any day. Flame my post if you must, I always say, “sticks and stones may break my bones…but whips and chains excite me”.

Thanks for sharing man, it was a good read. The one thing i miss the most about pnp games is hanging out and discussing games, its good to see some people still manage. If only i could get my irl friends interested...
Just to make things clear...
I speak for myself and no one else, unless i state otherwise mine is just an opinion. A fact is something that can be independently verified, you may challenge such but with proof. You have every right to disagree with me through sound argument, i believe in constructive debate, but baseless aggression will warrant an unkind response.
Took a long time to hook up with people who lived in the area but if you ask around you may very well find others. Thanks for checkin out my post

That's very interesting.
I promise you a logical death.
NOw those are awards I can get around. Although My 'Longest Yard' Award goes to DAOC and some epic keep sieges
Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
Yea, the longest yard award was the hardest. You know we kind of went with AV on this one cause it was not usually that long. DAOC came up on a number of awards but after dinner we got tired of debating and let the oldest have his way (big babby).
