Is anyone else waiting around for WoW to be overtaken?

Wow was great, and still is. How ever, for the past year and a half,  I have greatly toned down the amount of time I spend playing the game since I am simply bored of it. Nothing, short of a sequel can rejeuvenate how it felt when I first started playing.

I'm simply waiting for another game to come out to topple it. I'll continue playing it since it's where all the people are, but the moment it's clear that the population is going somewhere else, I'll be gone.

Anyone else have similar feelings?

I play a game because I like it not because other people play it. When I stop liking a game I stop playing a game.

i wish it would hurry up and fail for the simple fact that these companies/devs need to get the hell off that way way overdone wow-clone crap. so many games comeout claiming to be wow killers and to be innovative and original and unique...... but in the end damn near every one of them is basically just wow at the core with different story/genre/classes. im tired of getting my hopes up for something new and actually fun, instead of just the same old game with a different package/name.

i know some games have actually done fairly well as far as implementing new combat systems & other game mechanics, but too often it is basically just 1 or 2 things seperating it from WoW-ish games and though that new mechanic might be interesting, it quickly loses its appeal due to other major flaws with the game. its been long enough, we need something completely new and fresh and more exciting than the typical tab target & hotkey mashing garbage that 90% of mmos have become. i really want to see something requiring much more skill & finesse to achieve your goals while keeping you on your toes.... i know most of us whove been playing MMOs for a long time can hop on the majority of these games and play them half asleep or as is usually my case, while multitasking and barely paying any attention to what is actually going on in the game since its basically just repeating the same  'tab-hotkey-hotkey-hotkey-walk a few steps-repeat" over and over with no reason to even switch up your memorized patterns.

Not likely untill a very long time.

Wow got the most entertaining dungeons.  And the class itself is very interesting.

I keep going back to it despite hating  a majority of the raiding community . However it still runs on my pos system.

That's a better way to way to explain my feelings towards wow, I'm certain it will remain strong for many years and people will still play it (Like EQ2) just the larger population of the mmorpg playerbase will be somewhere else.

Oh, I forray into other games all the time, How ever they have never held the same signifcance as wow has.

Like if I get a good piece of endgame loot in lotro, it doesn't feel the same as getting something in wow. It's like windows, It may be worse than Mac but since everyone uses it, it's better.

What do i care if wow fails or not? Ive played it for a long time, got bored and move on.

I have nothing to win or loose with wow failures or victorys.

In fact i hope everyone can have fun either in wow or any other game they choose.

I don't play wow anymore but that does not give me a vested interest in it's failure, it shouldn't do that for you either there are many games out there with quite healthy populations what difference does it really make if most people are playing a certain game?  MMo's as referenced by an earlier article on this site are only twelve years old it's not as if fun didn't exist before them pick up a book or even hop back on a console if you find it boring.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

It's not so much about wow fail or not.

People are just waiting for the next big mmorpg better than wow.  But I doubt it'll happen for a very long time.

As an earlier poster stated I could not care less if five billion people play wow I play what I like when I like it and it has nothing to do with popularity, a low population can certainly effect a game but again lot's of games around the 200k mark seem to work for people so what does it matter if ten million are playing it.  Op goes further to actually point out that whatever the most people like he is going to consider "better" not sure how old he is but either way if he can actually formulate an opinion and type it out he is a little bit passed me trying to teach him why that is wrong and on how many levels...

I think of it as the opposite. In television, people will watch multiple programs. If not enough people watch them, then they get cancled. In mmo's, people usually only play one or two at a time, and therefor requiring people to leave other games to play new ones.

As I have said before, I play other mmorpgs for interest but am dragged back to wow for an unknown reason.

It's like drinking coke instead of no name brand soda.... It's hard to explain.

Repetitive leveling has already overtaken it for me and I cant see myself going back. Spend months trying to gear up, patch or expansion comes out with higher level cap, spend months trying to gear up, patch or expansion comes out with higher level cap! how many times can you go through this loop before you get burned out. Ive hit my limit.

Yes, however I don't think EQ2 ever gained the same number of players that EQ hand in it's prime. SOE's population of subscirbers became split causing both games to slowly die out.  I played EQ2 at one point, it was fun but the server I had joined was vacant. Currently only Antonia Bayle really has a descent population.

Wows downfall maybe when Blizzard releases it's new MMO. The playerbase will essiently split between the two games and both will dwindel no matter how good they are. It could possibly be EQ all over again.
