Windows 7?

cukimungacukimunga Member UncommonPosts: 2,258

Has anyone had any success playing this game on Windows 7?  I keep getting an error when I go to type in my characters name.  This is what it says.

Access Violation exception generated at 0x71C8B00A, thread attempts to read at 0xFE63000.

The thread attempted to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access.

Im posting this in the Ryzom forums as well trying to figure this out.  Thanks for your time.

    *sigh*

Its "fascinating", this Game was developed when Vista was a closely guarded secret in Microsofts vaults and still people expect it to run flawlessly on their newest BETA Version of an upcoming not even fully released OS. And whats more, they tend to blame the Game for it. Vista and 7 Betas were out just a few days and people were screaming all over boards, that "Games were crap, they would not work on Vista / 7." HOW are they supposed to? by magic?

    I just don´t get it.

Sorry, this is not meant as a flame at you Cukimunga. It´s just something I generally have a real problem understanding.

Anyway, the latest Version of the Game Client, was specifically designed to run on Vista and 7. Yes, they do try to keep up with times. ;)

Maybe you somehow got an older Version.

And in addition, like was said above, some things do have to be looked at in the actual OS to make everything work properly.

Sorry to get a bit "emotive" over this, but as Linus once said: "I like humanity, its humans that drive me crazy."

    Do you dare to adapt?

Yeah Its all good I don't expect everything to work on a OS that hasen't even officially hit the stores yet. IDK I downloaded it from their site and did a direct download no torrents. But heh oh well it runs well thats all I care about. It really didn't take me all that much time to figure how to get it to work.

Yeah I'm having a lot of fun, It taking some time to learn everything. But that is a good thing, I've been looking for a game that has as much depth as Ryzom. Where did you get that  Ryzom sig thing at?

Do you have Windows 7 Pro? If so, try running it in Windows XP mode.

If not, maybe try the official forums to see other users fixes?

You have special keys in your account page (not sure if trial account have it, probably u need to sub to find the keys into the account), one for each character you create.

You can use the key here: http://atys.ryzom.com/api/banner.php to have your signature.

Edit: don't give your keys to other people.
