farmers hide behind proxy for instance... a lot.

People need to realise the anomity is something not cool, beeing behind an anomity face brings the worst from people.. but if peoples use a service identified they tend to respect the others and generally behave.

Proxy servers should be completly banned, from games and any services web related or websites.

Aion, AoC, AC, AO, DDO, Eve, Eq2, GW, MW3, L1&2, RF, RIFT, SWG, SWTOR, TR, UO, WOW, WAR

Most people in the Oceanic region will be lucky to get a ping of 700 ms (pvp unplayable, rubberbanding occurring frequently).
Using a proxy server brings my ping down to 250, which is quite decent to play with.

Oh, and when i say "it would seem..." that's based on me logging in and the client saying "you cannot connect using this IP"
I, for one, will not continue playing until I can log in using a proxy.
Aion seemed like such a great game, it's unfortunate that this had to happen. NCSoft will lose many of the Oceanic players because of this, and the few that remain will be just that - a few, and the game will dwindle for our timezone ultimately turning into a ghost town... of course all of this can be avioded if they allow proxy servers within a few days again.
    [/end rant]

Well turn off your proxy server when your playing Aion you muppet . Its pretty simple you know .What do you have to hide anyway ?

I'd never consider going through a proxy here in the states, seems like that could only slow things down.
Feel free to point me to a link somewhere if its easier to explain that way.

Using proxies reduces the amounts of jumps a connection needs to go through, when connecting to a server that's very far away.

And like every other MMO it's going to hemorrhage a huge chunk of it's player-base after the first month. Sub 200k western subs end of year seems extremely likely now.

What does gold seller got to do with Oceanic players? NC even tag a server  for us.
They should ip ban ip address from china, not all of us! This doesnt make sense...

You shouldn't post in threads like you know what you're saying if you don't understand what is being discussed.

NC is blocking PROXIES not COUNTRIES. The Chinese were using proxies to mask that they were in China so NC blocked Proxies. Now, people in the Oceanic, who for some reason think a proxy improves ping, which is impossible unless they tunnel, are pissed that they can't log in.

Actually that's what i'm saying, they are blocking proxy instead of ip-ban those fella that's gold farmer...

    customer should come first.

not even one customer should be treated like a criminal....

which obviously they arent doing now. it seems their only excuse for this shit is oceanic people being unlucky...

Well, in the US we have the right to Life, Liberty, the Pursuit of Happiness and Low Ping Rates and Unlimited Access to Games.  I'm pretty sure that's true of the rest of the planet, so I hope all those people starving to death got the memo.

Plenty of people from the Oceanic region in our Legion, and they dont seem to have any trouble connecting. Not sure why you are having such a hard time.

Because they want to play with proxy on but ncsoft blocked anyone who uses proxy now so they don't want to login without it.

People here are saying that using proxy from there lowers their latency ingame.

im still on proxy and its doing fine.  use lowerping, they have made a workaround for the proxy server ip ban. do some research before rant.

Let us forget all about "IP Banning" please. It is known and proven to be very ineffective against even a mediocre programmer. MAC banning is a little better, but with the ability to change your MAC address still not full-proof. I can understand them proxy banning though, the majority of bots/farmers/whatever do connect through proxies. It is unfortunate that you are getting banned as well, and that you don't seem to have any other option than proxies. Hopefully they will get this issue resolved soon for the players that are not doing anything wrong.

I suppose the big question should be this: If you owned a company would you rather proxy ban to get rid of the farmers (even then not all of them) and loose 100k subs? Or do you let the farmers stay and only loose 75k subs due to annoyance? No, these are not factual numbers of any sort, just an example.

If it was my company, farm farm away!

It was a direct statement. Are you saying that I am incorrect that the administration and management of a support team dedicated to the task he is suggesting wouldn't be a project unto itself? Are you saying that the procedures of the team could be defined at the start and remain static rather than having to be regularly updated to change with the patterns and methods used by the spammers? Are you saying that the logging and documentation on the part of both code and support team would take no effort at all to establish and implement?

Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe you just hire forty people and tell them to go kick spammers. From my experience, which I admit is rather limited, there seems a lot more in administration, management and resources than would on the surface appear.

"How about we employ a few extra GM's to ban spamming accounts?"
"No, that would cost us money, and some accounts are hacked, so we would have to hire more people to give hacked accounts / items back to the stupid players that click on stupid links. We should just ban every proxy IP, this won't cost us anything"
"But what about the gamers that use these IP's to lower their pings?"
"F%ck em, they can play with higher pings, we already got their money, and because most wont be level cap when their 1st month runs out, they will renew their subscription because when your grinding, you dont really need to have good ping. In the interim lets just lie to them telling them that we will let them use it again once we solve the gold selling problem - which isn't going to happen. HAR HAR HAR"
So don't tell me the gold sellers are the problem, because that's like saying "Ah sorry dear lad, you are dying because you have cancer. We aren't going to do anything about it though, because it's the cancers fault. So blame cancer.... OH , WAIT! we can chop your arm off without anaesthesia, it won't cure your cancer, but at least you won't feel the pain the cancer is causing for a while"

You can also block the RTM spammers and ignore them while continuing to enjoy the game. It's worked for me so far. Getting all worked up over this issue is like getting worked up over the fact the sky is blue. In people's precious WoW I was inundated with gold spam all the time also. If you don't like gold spam stop playing MMO's. EvE online has a ton of RTM people also. Every MMO I have played has had gold spam. If they can manage to keep it to a dull roar I'll be amazed.

While it's very unfortunate that the Oceanic community gets the short end of the stick, isn't the whole point of NCSoft doing this is to combat the gold sellers and their bots?

Perhaps, but is throwing out customwers WITH the goldsellers a good business model?

This so far is the best post in the thread. In LoTRO the way to deal with spammers is simple.... /ignore them :)
