Playing Aion atm. it's pretty good IMO but like a lot of us here on the forums I too would like to play something awsome.

FFXI was my first MMO. The "magic" that was experienced when starting that game I felt again when starting WoW for the first time, so that isn't necessarily true. I think it has more to do with the game itself.

I have played neither but a friend of mine did and he told me just the other day that he would like to find a game that WOW once was before BC and the nerfing began.

The Words of a wise man..while my first MMO was DAoC it wasnt really mine as i played it at my friends house in two hours shifts between three of us...i picked up SWG and fell in love with the game play the graphics and everything...and for the normal reasons i left like most of the population and that magic can never be replaced..i was in the beta for FE didn't really like how all the ideas came together but i feel as if i never really gave it a shot...hell i almost thought of going back to WAR...played LOTRO for a month but had a lot more fun in Monster play then i did in the game its self, but i will say the game/graphics/community is solid and maybe im just not a captain kind of guy, DAoC is always on edge but i really just don't want to take the time to DL it if i will end up not playing it for even two weeks, waiting for TOR and STO because i feel as those have the most ability to deliver. but in all honesty if my hopes are drowned by those two then GW2 might be my last hope for MMOs which i have no doubts in Anets ability and GW2 will take the cake.
Not really interested in anything that's out right now. And everything on the radar looks pretty crappy too. Ah well. Modern Warfare 2 will be out in November, which should keep me busy enough not to care.

My first MMO was EQ and I found the magic again when I first started playing WoW. So, I think you are wrong.

At this point I'm the type of player who's the butt of many insults here.... I was introduced to Warcraft 2 by a friend and naturally progressed forwards to WoW, so that was my first MMORPG. That kept my attention for 3-4 years or so, before I left it for WAR and AoC, both of which I quit. Obviously, there were reasons why I quit these MMO's, and know that any desire of mine to return is just misguided nostalgia.
I'm waiting for a new MMO because I'm apparently an MMO noob and would not be able to truly appreciate the good ones of the past as they are out-dated graphically and conceptually with what there is now. I realize that if you played games like EVE and all that in the past why you have great reason to go back now, as you probably remember having good times with it in the past and still find it fun, but I tried the demo and couldn't get into it.
I'd really like to have a new MMO cause I feel rather empty without one. MMO's are a huge social environment where your life has purpose and you're working towards defined goals... they were great. I hope a good one turns up soon.
You could try LOTRO or EQ2 while you wait. Both are superior to WOW imo. Im looking forward to STO but ive learned two things about upcoming MMO's.
1. Dont be over optomistic.
2. See for yourself, dont believe the hype or the doom and gloomers.
The problem with playing EQ2 or LoTRO is being far behind the majority of the community, and let's face it, MMO's are about the community and content. EQ2 just has simply so much content, that'd it'd take a long time to catch up to where the rest of the people are. Or, you can skip a lot of content to get to those people sooner. I hate skipping content personally. Lot's of expansions to go through and catch up with too.
LoTRO isn't so bad as EQ2 in that regard, but with the new expansion coming out in December, it's a little late in my opinion to get started now. Unless you want to miss Mines of Moria and the rest of the group content pre-new expansion. Again, I hate skipping content, so this isn't much of an option.
Real life friends, maybe 5-10 of them would solve the above problems, but I don't have real life friends that play MMO's. So to me, I'm better off waiting for a new MMO to come out to start fresh with the rest of the community, than trying to play catch up. I played catch up with WoTLK when it came out, and I've never been satisfied that I missed pre-BC raids and some 5 mans, and BC raids and some 5 mans. This doesn't bother many people, but it irritates me.
i'am too in the same boat as a lot of you wanting the next mmo as i have spent 15 years or so on mmos first was one you will never hear about or even know it was called The Realm it was officially the first pay to play mmo and its still arround i've played everything to release and yes after playing them all i still don't get the magic from EQ or WOW anymore prob because iam burnt out on the genres but i will still try for every one that comes out might hit my mark again who knows
I wouldn't say I'm desperate for a new MMO, but not thrilled with what I'm playing (Aion) and looking forward to being disappointed by many new MMOs to come. I doubt I'll ever stick with one for longer than three months, ever again.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
I am one of those drifters, I feel that none of the games out right now are not that good, and I'm to young to play games with a monthly subscription so I'm litteraly "up sheet creek with out a paddle" and I was in fallen earth beta but dropped out when I heard there would be a monthly fee. So all I can hope for is a new MMO that is free to play and fun. (But not getting my hopes up =/ )
I'm not currently subscribed to any MMOS (first time in like 5 years). Wish there was something out there for me, but I think the industry is passing me by. MMO's on the horizon sound like they won't be for me either, though I'll happily try anything with a free trial.
What's interesting is that I noticed a poll on the front page the other day, with over 38k answered, that asked: "How many MMORPG titles are you currently subscribed to?"
I was quite shocked to see that on a site like MMORPG.com the answer for zero was 25%.

I've come to terms with the fact that I'll never have that same feeling again... at least that's how it looks like now. Might have something to do with me not playing any MMOs right now or looking forward to anything either.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

We need "The Ramones" of MMOs to come out... an MMO that returns the genre back to it's base elements and gets down to a raw intensity. All of these MMO's aren't doing anything cool and unique and are losing focus of what it means to be an MMO. You're supposed to be providing us with a dynamic and social world where we are in control of the fates of our characters and are allowed to make our own people. I request that some company study the history of rock music and realize what needs to happen now... The MMO Punk Revolution. :P

I'm always desperate for a new MMORPG. Most of the times, I find this interesting MMORPG, I stick with it for a month or two, and then I just break away. It's like it doesn't appeal to me anymore. Eventually, something new will come along, but it doesn't appeal to me either. I'm always looking for something that will make me literally hooked with it.
