I think the first thought, and maybe you've verified this already, should be, "Will my current PC run EQ2?" and from there you can wonder if you'd actually like it or not.
Shame they didn't have an open beta so people could just see for themselves.
Honestly, there are way too many variables to just summarize this in a single post. The two games are very different, and you will have to spend quite some time reading up on what EQ2 brings to the table. It also entirely depends on your feelings for EQLive - and whether or not your favorite features are even in the game at all.
Like Navras, I too loved EQ1, next to my PK days in UO, EQ1 was the best MMORPG I've played.
What I liked about EQ1, the high end raid game. Leveling up was just something you had to do to get to the point where you could raid. Leveling sucked, but oh well, a lot of boredom, but I had some fun along the way too.
But the raid game was awsome. Impossible encounters, uber loots and massive wipeouts. It was great being stuck in a situation and really having to think and try new things to beat the mob. And in some situations a wipeout would cost your entire guild an hour or more. Sucked when a wipeout happened, but knowing the consiquences....thats a level of emmersion that I've only experienced in EQ 1. Losing a fight could be very bad news, a bad pull could ruin the entire night, there was real consiquence to something going bad. But at the same time, winning the encounter and getting some nice uber loots, especially the first time that particular mob was dropped, was a rewarding experiences...something that no other game has ever matched.
I agree. I absolutly LOVED the giant EQ raids/wipeouts and the whole experience. However I must say Final Fantasy XI does this equally as well. Just to touch on it, Burning Cricle fights are MUCH more difficult than EQ. FFXI has loads of high calibur fights that will leave you dumbfounded when your all lying there dead.
I sincerily hope EQ2 will do the approach the high-end raiding system well. But uhh, I have a pretty nice computer right now, and with 30+ people in EQ1 it laggedl ike crazy, I'm not entirely sure how 30+ people that look like they do EQ2 will actually flow at more than 1FPS.
Like said Everquest 2 will be a different game. From looking at information gone are the days of needing 50+ pepole for raids. I think the normal raid size will be 24 people and those areas where raids will take place are instanced. So you don't have to deal with waiting list or worry about people having to steal your time slot. When it comes to death, gone are the need to get your corpse cause you only drop a crystal(forgot its name). If you don't go back and get it you'll have a a decrese in your stats for a while but it goes away in like 3 days(real time). So you can go back for that if you want but you have your equipment and items when you respond but items take quality hits and can break after a time I think. Then there is the thing that raids can happen across the level ranges. I don't believe its a high end thing anymore, especially since items are level based now(greatly cuts down on twinking your character or another character). I think not being able to buff those not in your group but you can heal outside the group cuts down on powerleveling so it will be harder to do that. Looks like everyone will be able to get an apartment and a chance to get better places to level as your level and get more money, same with guild houses. What I think EQ2 will do when compared with EQ1 is do away with the elitism that plagues EQ1. Since no longer will a few guilds or people dominate but everyone has an equal chance at things now. Not saying everyone will get it but everyone has a chance now. Also certain zones (like raids, maybe quest, and some of the lower level zones) are instanced. Like lower level zones(someone correct me on this) when it gets to crowded, another version will be created. Raid areas or special encounters, the groups or raid groups will get their own versions.
There seems to be a lot more differences as well. Everquest 2 seems to be really, really, really quest based. A lot more then EQ1. In EQ1 you really didn't have to do quest if you didn't want to. In EQ2 it seems (from info, beta journals and reports) a good deal of advancement will be centered around quest. Like gaining access to the city, moving along the teir of classes, gaining armor and weapons, etc. I'm really liking this and it looks like EQ2 won't be called NeverQuest the way EQ1 has been. There also seems to be a lot of quest across all the levels at the moment.

The answer is a resounding....maybe.

Will I see that kind of action in EQ 2?
