I never understand why people want a dothack mmorpg so badly.
I only played the first game in the franchise and watched a few episodes of the anime, but there is nothing this game really offers that you can't get already. The reason why dothack was so interesting was because of it's fiction storyline and unique perspective on the actual players of an mmorpg, not the game itself.
The game itself, if you take away all the virus and corrupted things and such, was just a game where you go to a dungeon with 2 other players, get the loot from the chest and repeat.
There is nothing else to it.
if dothacks actual gameplay setup sounds interesting to you, you should consider trying Phantasy Star Universe. It's as close to dothack as you can get.
I agree.
Perhaps they are just looking for a feeling that the current games don't provide for them.

Why did they have to go 3D. For every dimension you add to a project the number of applicable people you have goes down by a factor of 10. So asside from just nomral "online game", "persistance", and all those fun diddits you add another 10x multiplier to your art pipeline as well.

I love love love the idea of a .hack// mmorpg the problem is that everyone is so focus on making it look realistic and such I would be happy if it looked just like .hack// the anime or the games for PS a whole world where the characters look just like their origins and the towns and adventures. I think it's a great idea and multiple companies have started the idea the problem is a lot of them cant find funding for it. such a shame.
