Hi all, I signed up hoping for some feedback on the mmorpg that I have been developing since I graduated in June 09. I have completed the graphics engine (still gotta draw a whole lot of tiles) and mostly completed the server and client, with combat and npc interaction being left to do.
Anyway, heres a couple of screenshots of the map maker, let me know if you think this project looks any good

Doesn't look awful, but I'd like to know more about the game itself, or what you're planning on making it.

The Best New Sandbox Game Out There.
I'd like to combine a number of mechanics and features from other MMOs along with a bunch of ideas of my own, for example; the agressiveness of Tibia and EvE - where players can really screw eachother over.
Crafting abilities will be broad and complex, and actually very worth having and profitable.
Player owned houses are already a part of the game engine and can exist in the real persistant world along with everything else.
All new characters start out the same, character definition (selecting a class, then a sub class, then a speciality) occurs as the character levels. In general players can choose between having a broad array of skills or specialising in just a few.
Early game will be a light grind assisted by quests, mid game will be based upon larger quests - like those in the 'Forgotten Realms' series of games, quests which are very hard and take a long time to complete but reward with big chunks of xp and items.
End game will be heavily instance oriented (instances are coded but largely untested .), and PvP oriented - players fight over sections of 'Outworld' - an area of Adranos similar to lowsec in EvE. I havent finished piecing the mechanics of this together yet, but I like the idea of large scale PvP between guilds for sections of land and resource nodes - perhaps a finite number of guild halls are available in the world and the best guilds fight over the larger and more prestiguous guild halls.
If any of this sounds good/bad let me know, I'll be coding it all together over the course of the next six months or so.
Sounds good to me.
Whatcha programming it in? And any website/forum/irc for it yet?
There is a 'website'...sort of, something I bought and threw up a long time ago:
www.adranos.com
I drew that banner about 6 years ago, it's really just a place holder for the domain.
The game is coded entirely in Java - the server too (i know this sounds like a bad idea, but i believe the stability of Java's multithreading makes up for its lack of speed in a server application). The server uses an sql database for any static data.
All the graphics so far I drew in GIMP.
dont like it to be honest..
thats ok, but what dont you like? the images are much clearer if you follow the link:
