I  am a SWG- Veteran. Means I  started playing the game 2004 and played until NGE hit.

Server merge got me back into the game.  And I  actually like what I  see.. I  just have to let the old time pass.

While the game was AMAZING  beyond anything before with the skill system and total freedom of your character, I found the game as it stands today to be more interesting and unique than any of the other games out on the marked.

I love Wow and the inspiration that came from that game can be seen in SWG compared to old SWG but its still a very unique game and the crafing/player city stuff is awesome + a great community.

And the point at stuff and then click skill is actually pretty cool.

So SWG  deserves to live and I wish more old Vets like me had actually tried it. Found friends and given it a chance. We have "kicked a game that been lying down" for too long now. Its time to stop.

Why should I ?!?    I spent two years grinding out proffesions then going thru the jedi village grind to obtain the ultimate goal of unlocking jedi just to have them give it away a month later  as a starting proffession. If anything, SOE "kicked" me....right in the damn teeth.

You go on and enjoy your game sir. I however will never forgive or forget.

Nothing last forever. There will be a day when they pull the plug on the servers in all MMORPGs out tere.

Even life itself does not last forever. Some people work hard but never wake up next day. Its just reality. Fair? Well life is not fair. Never been.

MMORPGS. Its all about having fun while you are there. Its not the past, not the future. Its today.

You dont achieve anything "important" or lasting in any of theese games really apart from having fun while doing it. Its like watching a movie. Even movies you enjoy. You will forget them.

I agree what SOE did was bad. But I think they learned their lesson. And to be honest. I thnk that LucasArts was more bad boy than SOE when it comes to NGE. SOE  did a great job with EQ2 that was entirely their own.

I keep checking back with SWG every 6-12 months (mainly because of SW love).  Last time, I paid the $50 transfer and moved my toons over to the most popular server (the RP one..forgot the name). Aside from the cantinas being filled with level 90s, the game was barren.  Want to quest in Kashyyk with a group?  Not gonna happen.  The 90s are only interested in the elite loot at this point.  The game is dead to everyone but the hanger-ons.

[Edit] P.S. I beta3'd SWG and hated it.  Thought it was nothing more than an EQ clone.  2005 rolled around, I started a sub and loved it.  To this day, it has been my favorite MMO.  However, what it is now is a minor shadow of what I liked.  It deserves to die and let it be remembered for what it was, not what it is now.

    Welcome back.

I would like to state that in no way shape or form that anything I receive from SOE influences my opinion about SWG or their company. I’m pretty much a typical average player enjoying the game.

When you discover what soe is doing with the loot cards and the majority of the games content, you may reconsider your statement that they learned their lesson.

Also, they did not do a great job with EQ2.  Their mismanagement of the game by rushing it to market is the reason why it has done so poorly and was merging servers within the first year of its release.  Soe has removed and revamped most of their innovative features since release to make the game more like another mmo that is far more successful.

And yet EQ2 is still going has just had another expansion and has yet another in the works...

"another mmo that is far more successful"  is that what the mmo world has come to? If it's not a WoW killer it's a failure?

Death ultimately kicks us all in the teeth.  This is why we enjoy today instead of grind for tomorrow.

If you like the game, you like the game. I have no problem with that.

But the problem SOE has is that the vast majority of the pre-NGE player base views the NGE as a steaming pile of poo with a SWG skin, and all the work done to it since release to amount to more layers of lipstick on the pig.

Fact of the matter is the NGE destroyed not only the viability of SWG but it was a triple incap and deathblow to the reputation of SOE. Or was TCG it's deathblow?

I ceased to play NGE after it became obvious that they were never going to make it any better than it was, and certainly didn't want to hear from anyone who was telling them what they needed to do. To me, I can't go "home" again, despite the fact that my server (Bloodfin) is still there, the community that made it what it was largely isn't.

I have logged in for most of the trials but didn't even bother the last time. I'd deleted my client install and thus lost the mods and macros I had installed to make the UI semi functional, and couldn't be bothered to re-do them. The default client setup is atrociously bad and unplayable. The controls CAN be set back to pseudo-Pre NGE but not without work.

The fact that the Devs won't budge on this, make a "Pre NGE" keymap that you can select easily, nor will they dump completely clicky combat shows that they will not do anything, even if it's clearly for the good of the game, even if it would help retain subscribers if it means bruising their ego.

Badger actually asked them to do this and they wouldn't for whatever reason.

Hey Wildcat, what brings you here?  Nice to hear from you again.

The SWG Veteran Keymap concept was well received by the Devs.  I hope they put something like this in for the next veteran trial.

Welcome back to SWG, blueshadow.  Glad to hear you are enjoying it.  You can switch to auto-aim by pressing Y if you get tired of the Manual Aim system.

I think they've given up on the idea of any meaningful numbers of us ever coming back, which is why they've never done this.

Besides, with TOR's impending release, which is certainly coming in 2010, I don't think it matters anyway, they closed down half the game just yesterday.

But it was a colossal blunder to make it possible to (mostly) use the CU era style UI but not have a preset for it in the game before offering the FIRST of the vet trials. A huge percentage of those who bothered to log in had to have had that "WTF IS THIS CRAP?!" reaction to the controls and immediately logged off and deleted the client. It is so bad that you can't even move your avatar around without re learning everything.

When I was still playing, I had an elaborate setup of UI mods (Pre-CU style icons and HAM bars) and key-mapped macros to make the UI mostly work the way I wanted it to. That was the work of hours to get right, and to me, isn't worth the effort to re-do just for the sake of doing another trial, when I know I'll never resubscribe anyway.

The big problem of the NGE aside, SOE over the years has failed to pay attention to a lot of LITTLE problems like this which has cost them big time. That is how you know that the failure of management that caused the NGE mistake to begin with is still alive and well at SOE.

Is anything I said about EQ2 untrue?  Just because the game is still running doesn't mean it wasn't mismanaged.  Seriously look at the forum we are in right now.

Doubt you know much about EQ2 or have every played it.

While I dont play it anylonger and quit years ago. I know that EQ2 is widely known as one of the best fantasy games out there. WoW,  EQ2, LOTRO is know as solid choises if you want a fantasy theemed game and are probably the 3 best. (Aion is still too new to be "established").

A mmorpg will always be changing. Playing an MMORPG is playing a constant beta.. thats just the way it is. The way theese games works. While wow obviously learned many devs a lesson in polish and still do.  There will always be a certain "beta" element in theese games.

EQ2 was in my opinion not good when in launched. But it has gone a long way and is today a very good game.

I am currious to know Daffid what 3 games you could mention that you think are good and solid?

You said soe did a great job managing EQ2 and I showed how that is incorrect.

To begin with soe management chose to release EQ2 before it was ready in an attempt to beat blizzard to market.  That management choice has been the root of many of EQ2 problems and shortcommings which quickly turned into EQ2 having to close almost half of the servers the game released with.  Now I don't know how anyone could call that good management without bending the truth beyond recognition.

My experience with EQ2 or what games I enjoy have no effect of that and neither will trying to change the topic to focus on me.
