games far from crap there really isn't anything better out their.
Actually i would say that both War, AOC( the current version) and WoW ( havent tryed LotR ) is better games then Aion.
The first two lag players though and the third needs a graphical update. Aion prolly have them all 3 beat in graphics which say something about the mmo standard that a company can go out and buy a outdated engine ( and save tons of bucks by not developing from scratch) and come up with better graphic. But both Aoc, War and WoW have in commen that leveling up a toon actually is fun; Aoc supported by a very fun combat system - every pull feels intense, War with pvp xp and WoW with a truckloads of items with funny stats, skill enhancing ( glyphs and talent trees) and build options.
And i dont buy the excuse that Aion is new. Thats the game i go out and buy; i dont buy a game because their might be a chance that it will be better in a year. If Aion was aired for 5 years ago it might have been the big thing - but it wasnt. It is standing on the shoulders of WoW and as suchs, it should have had a fair chance to compete. Untill NCsoft patch in some much needed fun stuff - whch we dont know if they even are going to -i dont think the game is the best out there. Its the newest though, and maybe the most hyped ( due to its graphic).
I honestly dont see where Aion can fail really, it has great gameplay, a grand variety of objectives in Open pvp with meaning to the world around, beautifull graphics, many pve objectives in world bosses, dungeons and fortress bosses, a very stable client among many other.
The only downside as of now is a bit more grind than ppl are used to, but that is being adress on the next patch that will significantly reduce it.
Time will tell for sure, but i honestly dont see why all the hate towards a game
Not hate, really, but disappointment: The world is definitely not up to par, since it is extremely linear and does not quite have the surface area, or content you would find in WoW/EQ2/LoTRO.
Character customization is also extremely lacking (stigma system seems tacked on and there's usually only one viable build).
Gameplay is good, but way too similar to WoW's/EQ2's etc.: It just doesn't offer anything new and the flying part is trivialized past combat.
The dungeons are horrible compared to WoW's at launch: Training camp, lava caves, Black Claw camps etc. are all very banal and uninspired compared to the detail that went into WoW"s 5 man instance dungeons (or even it's non-instance ones back in the days when the outside stuff was elite..); they simply feel like collections of mobs and not like epic encounters.
It's not a bad game, but it's a very shallow game compared to what else is out there; if you were to replace Aion's graphics with WoW's and use a time machine, then maybe it would be revolutionary, but definitely not now.
This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.
We need to look at these games in the long-term. We also need to realize that the pool of MMO players is not infinite. Sure, some new players join the genre here and there, but it's not a mass influx of players like when WoW came out. So basically, companies are canabalizing players from other games.
Since games are developed to last years through content patches, updates, and expansions, people tend to stick to one MMORPG at a time, even if they do try new ones as they come out; they eventually go back to older ones when a new update or expansion is released. There are, of course, factors influencing these decisions, such as "did the person enjoy the game they left" and "is the new game like the one they left, that they still like?"
So basically, this is my long way of saying AION won't be big, because the game is canabilizing players from WoW, WAR, AOC, and similar games. WoW in particular is a huge game, with a lot of draw, and will soon be releasing an expansion that revamps the majority of the game. So PvE players that were just tired of the same old content will likely go back to WOW when that happens, rather than sticking with AION. Those who want PvP NOW will likely go back to WAR and similar games as updates are released, and as the grind of AION gets to them. Players that are most like what AION is probably targetting are Lineage II players. That game isn't huge in the west, but may permanently lose players to AION, because AION is a superior game.
Worst site to make such polls so many haters and trolls here that will vote for no obviously.
Which is different than pre-launch, where everyone was saying this game would be incredible. Now that it's out, people see that it's a crap game. Maybe when you get past level 15, and the 'ooh-shiny-new' wears off, you'll see it for what it is.
The so called 'Shiny' wears off at level 18ish and is re opened again at 20, and you would know that if you have reached it, and after 20, 25 is opened with another 'shiny'
As an Ex-DAoC player, the game is exactly what I have been looking for.
I want a game that offers both PvE and PvP and Aion covers that well I want levelling to have a tough progression curve, so that I am not at cap within 3 weeks, changing armour every 2 days. Finally, I want the game to be polished, with few bugs, and Aion is very well polished.
It will not suit everyone, but what MMO does? The players that are used to levelling at silly speeds in WoW (and lately EQ2) will probably not enjoy it. The players that like PvP at it's purest (and probably should be playing FPS) will probably not enjoy it.
But for me, and 90% of my guild from way back when in DAoC, it fits the bill almost perfectly. I do not expect to be at cap any time soon, but one day when I get there (if I get there) I would have enjoyed the journey greatly.
For once I feel like I am in a game where I don't have to race to cap to enjoy it.

My first and longest MMO played was DAoC. AION definitely wasn't for me after playing it for 3 weeks. For one, DAoC offered multiple areas to start from, which gave the game a lot of replayability. For two, the game offered access to PvP a lot sooner than AION. For three, people generally leveled up in groups, where we didn't notice the grind due to great conversation.
Now I did see some similarities between DAoC and AION, such as the Abyss (Darkness Falls & Frontiers mixed), and Krall grind groups (Salisbury Plains grind groups), but the game failed on other levels for me, that were quite important (for me).
(...). For once I feel like I am in a game where I don't have to race to cap to enjoy it.
I would love a game where the focus is on the leveling up part instead of endgame. But Aion really dosnt seems like suchs for me; that is, unless the endgame is even more repeatedly and boring then the grind.
A game where the focus is on the RPG part need to offer RPG. It needs to offer decent fun combat, quest variety, good instances, decent rewards and upgrades as you travel along. Im all for suchs a game, but honestly, and i hate to say it, but i really think that both WAR, AOC and WoW have better leveling up game then Aion.

Well, I don't remember being in each starter area for very long and I don't tend to have a miriad of alts, so the single starter area is not an issue for me.
When I started DAoC the PvP started in the frontier at level 30, and a little later in development, the first battleground at 24, so entering PvP at 25 in Aion seems little different from my own perspective.
As for the grouping, I suspect that is something that will happen more and more in Aion, as some of the speed levelling, solo questers perhaps make their way back to WoW, leaving the ones who don't mind (and in fact enjoy) grouping in Aion.
I cannot comment on the other areas in which the game has failed you, but I suspect many ex-DAoC players will find a comfortable home in Aion, at least until DAoC 2 is released at some point in the distant future.

Yup! I don't take anything serious on this website, its a mad house 24/7. Makes me wonder what MMOs all these fools are playing so I can avoid them...lol
I don't think it will be big and I also don't think it will die. Aion will sustain a decent community and most likely fall in the realm of typical MMO. An example of Aion in a couple months will be something like EVE, definitely not dead but not insanely huge either, which isn't a bad thing.
Now that he honeymoon is over, do you still believe Aion will be a big game in the US and EU? Also, what do you feel NCSoft needs to do to make it better in the future so that Aion will be a good game worth playing?
I always believed that Aion would garner about 300k to 500k subs. No more.
So I'll just wait to see how that pans out. Unless they make an announcement, I'll just have to wait until the next quarterly report.

Thats the problem. Most gamers are so used to being held by the hand in MMOs that Aions leveling system turns them off. If your looking for a mmo where you can level to max in 2 months with your eyes closed go play WoW...or LOTRO even.
I personally love the Aion leveling progression. Makes hitting max level that much more enjoyable. Heres as idea!! Try taking your time in Aion through questing, crafting and helping guildmates for xp rather then rushing to max level. Nah...that would be insane.... MMOs are serious stuff!! Theres no point in taking your time and enjoying them!! Thats just crazy!! LOL

You dont understand me. I dont mind a game with focus on leveling up; in fact, i would love a sandbox game without a level cap. But - leveling in Aion is...not..fun!! If it was fun it could last forever for all i care!

Yes the punch drunk convos in legion chat while Aether grinding are another form of fun. If people want to solo to 50 and "b3 ubar" without being social this isn't the game for you. Even if you power-level to 50 if you haven't gathered Aether and other things you are basically missing out on the whole crafting scheme and gathering quest chains. If you're like me you'll try all the things available and explore the game. There's a lot more to do than hiting max level in this game which is why I think it will last. I doubt it will have many more subs than it has now though.

It's pretty pointless to ask this on this forum. I mean, is there actually anything average poster on this forum doesn't hate?
Yes, the only thing they don't hate is the game they believe is the "best game evah", to which they've bound their soul for all eternity. Usually, it's their first MMO "love".
More on topic, I'm enjoying Aion a lot. It's pretty much what I've expected it to be, and has been an enjoyable experience so far.
Yes if the developers are quick and patch in more fun stats, items, skill specialisation, variation in quests, variation in mobs and more connect between the quest xp and the grind xp. No if they just are gonna bore ppl to death with endless monotone grind.
Aion has a Korean developer, that will probably mean that updates will cater for the Korean market first and foremost.

While I dislike Aion in many ways and canceled my account a day or two ago (from pre-release), there is an interesting phenomenon on these boards immediately after release where everyone tries and bitches about a game. I would think that the poll would work better in a couple weeks when the people like me have stopped coming into the Aion section of the forum.
For the record, I chose 'no', not because I "hate" Aion, but because I think that many other posters in here are correct: There are plenty of other games which can fit the niche of Aion, some of which are even free.
It's pretty pointless to ask this on this forum. I mean, is there actually anything average poster on this forum doesn't hate?
Probably not because this game is pretty easy to hate. There is nothing new or innovative to this game. Everything has been done before. The major downfall of this game IMO is the grind (of course). I rather do quests than camp one area for five hours pressing the same buttons over and over again (sounds fun, huh?). Also, I wasn't too fond of the group element. To me it seemed rather shallow and empty. The healers didn't have any distinguished healing skills and felt rather generic. Same goes for the tanking in this game, it didn't seem fluent enough to distinguish a toon from being a real tank or a toon weilding a shield. These are my two cents. Hate on me if you wish but this game is basically all hype, and the wow vs aion threads are ridicilous.

There have been very few mmorpgs that have been either new or innovative since the release of the early mmorpgs. All the complaints you have about the game are also present in just about every other mmorpg.

NEG. AoC offers a new and innovative angel. Fallen earth also offers a new angle Champions online is pretty innovative via super hero genre. They all offer a much more solid group aspect to the game.
The only thing this game offers that others don't are scrolls of speed so you don't need a mount? and timed wings that you can't use without jumping off a cliff. oh yah, did I mention that the flying is timed?

I think the game will be a big hit for at least another month. However, when the majority of the population gets 30+ you are going to start seeing a hemorrhage of players.
1 - 30 has some grinding, but nothing obscene, 35+ the grind becomes slow and painful. Now... there are a lot of folks that enjoy that kind of thing and for those, the game will be right up their alley. But not everyone enjoys exponential exp growth with diminishing quest and mob exp.
35 + you are looking at 10+ hours of grinding per level, and it just gets worse by the time you pop 40.
There is a patch coming out that is going to increase some quest exp in an attempt to fix some of these issues, but the exp totals arent going to be big enough to make an effect folks will enjoy.

This pretty much.
NCsoft said they want to be number two in NA/EU which is probably about 300k-500k.

Yup! I don't take anything serious on this website, its a mad house 24/7. Makes me wonder what MMOs all these fools are playing so I can avoid them...lol
I dunno, the poll seems to be neck and neck, where are all the haters and trolls you guys are talking about?

You think those that didn't even play it will post why they picked "No" in the poll? that's what I mean.

Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.

I always believed that Aion would garner about 300k to 500k subs. No more.
So I'll just wait to see how that pans out. Unless they make an announcement, I'll just have to wait until the next quarterly report.

This pretty much.
NCsoft said they want to be number two in NA/EU which is probably about 300k-500k.
