Need a new MMO, any recommendations?
Looking for a new MMORPG main'y. I'm an old school MMO player since Meridian 59, followed into EQ and most MMO's that have been worth anything. However these days just can't find an MMO. I tend to prefer co-op group play, crafting is fine and dandy as long as its semi useful. Preferably something semi new or least has a fairly large user base left. I play on Aussie time so many of the old semi dead games are completely dead when I'm on. I loved EQ classic and first expac, DAoC classic up to Atlantis also, Vanguard how it was meant to be in beta 2 would have been the perfect game for me. WoW war quite good in classic but went to crap in BC and WoTLK expacs.
So I tend to like group play, but of course the ability to be able to advance slowly soloing for that odd time. A game with difficulty and doesn't pamper the low end unskilled player. Semi new with fairly decent graphics. Class archtypes where no one person does it all.
Recently tried Champions Online and that was a total joke, just finding it had these days to want to plop down $50 for a game when finding so many in recent years utter failures.
So any suggestions? Help an oldie out.

DDO seems to be all the rage now since it's free. personally.. i don't play anything, haven't seriously in over a year. i was in fallen earth beta and it seemed to be on the right track but just missed getting it right.

Lords of the rings might be interesting for you , we have plenty of aussie players on brandywine server and the game balances solo and group quests in every zone and a light touch of pvp called monster play in LOTRO ... there a free trial so try it out .
DDO didn't look of any interest to me. Had a RL friend who played and looked at it and just not for me. Played LOTRO a bit in beta and after release and didn't like how it went. Debating trying EQ2 again as a RL friend says its almost like a completely new game but just don't think lower level group play will exist as it didn't exist last time I played.
I played Champions and also thought it was a complete joke. I'm playing FE and after trying once and deciding I didn't like it after an hour, this time I stuck with it for a day and am loving it. The community is unbelievable, and the PvE is intensely fun. I won't compare it to EQ and DAoC because they are totally different niches, but apples to oranges, I think FE is pretty high up there.
FE? What is FE? Not family with that abbreviation.
FE is Fallen Earth so far its a really good game was released sept 22nd I think.

This was me to a "T"!
I tried it for about 20 mins and walked away. Then I kept reading on the boards here and on IGN about how great it is so I took a chance and bought it. I created one character and was still not liking it that much, then I had someone spend an hour explaining crafting to me and it changed my mind.
I rerolled a character and now that I know "somewhat" of what I am doing, I am loving this game.

mm closest to what you seek as an ex eq player is probably aion but i suggest you play on oceanic server as west and lot of east server are very quiet with the bad review ,scared most potential player ,most are trickling back to wow

aside from aion nothing will please you im afraid
wow will be a solid choice once cataclysm is released
why?you can lock your level so if you want to try an heroic dungeon that is red (hadest)
you can do it wich is what makes a good choice but i suggest you go wow only when cat is released so your not burned
