Basically, it's nothing like EQ1? It sounds more like Guildwars to me where there is a city but there are 30 districts whose sole purpose is to separate people. ie. Each district is a copy of the other but have a max number of people in that particular zone. Is EQ2 like that? If it is, that completely turns me off now.

    It is exactly like that.

I did not say the game lagged or didnt perform well.

I have more complaints about game mechanics then performance.

I hear ya though,  Im just telling you my opinion isnt about me whining that the game crash's or lags.

At least thats not the only thing I dont like about the game.  But it is undeniable at this point that EQ3 does have performance issues,  but it has gotten alot better.

I haven't been in an instanced city zone yet.  It's possible that they just haven't been crowded enough for a second instance to pop up, or they may just not do instancing for city zones.  The cities are broken up into 9 zones, 3 zones for the main city and 6 for the areas on the outskirts that the different races start at.  Each of these zones are different (different maps, NPC's, quests, merchants).

All the zones are instanced.  Including cities and the regular world.

And yes the cities are broken up into 9 zones,  and each of those 9 zones is instanced.  So there are ALOT of city instances.

I personally think the game sucks,  but I can tell you all about it regardless.  I spent 2 months in the beta,  which is more then 80% of the beta testers.  I played it alot and pretty much tried every aspect of EQ2.

Was there any reasoning given in the beta forums regarding the money-grubbing, stingy decision by SOE to limit accounts to 4 total characters.

Or why they waited to post the 4 total character slot rip-off decision in the Official FAQ after it was too late to cancel pre-orders?

    Just wondering....

    Probably like you say it.

For SOE it isnt wise for them to say 6 months ago that you would only have 4 character.  Because then people would be pissed,  and they woudlnt of gotten as many preorders and interest in the game.

As far as them saying why?  I didnt read anything about it.  If I had to guess it came down to them paying for more server and server space and didnt think it was worth it.  It was SOE maximizing profit.

Else why wouldnt they at least let you have like 10 characters per server like a game like City of Heroes?

SOE is a corporation.  They dont sway to the minority community.  And if they can get away with something to save money,  and it isnt going to cost them a huge amount of customers,  they will try and do it.  Which I think most people think 4 characters is ok,  so SOE will go ahead with it.  Else if everyone makes a stink about it,  they would probably raise it.

    Hello ritual,

I'm very interested in your opinion of EQ2 both positive and negative.  Can you post some positive things about the game as well as negative ones?  I'm interested in both what you liked and disliked.

I played EQ1 from 99 to spring 2004.  Spent time with Diablo, Diablo 2, Bldrs Gate I and II,  and have friends who were UO fiends.  My server of choice on EQ was Sullon Zek until Sony nerfed my Wiz.

It might be helpful for members if you listed concisely things that you liked, and then things that you did not like.  For example, did you like character advancement?  Did you like graphics?  I take it you did not like the quests...  What about the emersion factor?  I think that's an important one although it seemed to me that you discounted it a little in your description.  Emersion is important to me in that it makes me feel the experience is more real.  Guild Wars, for example, is a fun game.  I don't rate the emersion factor very high however.

Thanks for your posts.  I like a critical perspective.

Tough question.  It isnt my job to be SOE producer.  So me giving feedback is me doing their job for them.  Because I feel that for me to post a detailed review,  SOE would have to pay me.  JUst for the ideas I would give them and for my perspective of the game,  good and bad.

So Im not really going to get into specifics.

But if you have a particular question like how something works or what a certain feature is like,  ask away.  Ill leave it up to you if you think it is good or bad.

This is the last piece of evidence i need to prove that you ARE NOT in beta.  First off, in an early post you made mention of a warlock, in which Eq2 has none of this, the class would be sorcerer if i think what i think your thinking your wanting other people to think.  And secondly, i can name the EXACT zones in each city that are instanced.

    The zones are:

    1. Forest Ruins

    2. The Caves

    3. The Down Below

    4. not sure if they have yet to instance Vermin's Syne, and i have yet to go to crypt of betrayle, so i'm unsure on those 2

    5. The Oakmyst Forest

and that is all, none of the actual city-zones are instance, there is one version of N. Qeynos, one version of S. Qeynos, one version of Qeynos Harbor, one version of the Eldarr Forest, one version of: castleview hamlet, the baubble shire, the greystone yard, willow wood, nettleville hovel, and starcrest commune

you are incorrect on the instance, i have no idea what game you are playing, you click on the door to take you to the zone, and it takes you there, as opposed to instanced zones in which you choose the instance in which to go into.

P.S.  There are 10 city zones.

my next piece of evidence that you aren't in beta, you seem to be streaming with ideas about how much preivously announced features suck, but you will not talk about anything in which you actually would have to be in beta to know.  Your getting to play the game for free for a month or so, so in reality, THEY ARE PAYING YOU!!!  This would be the response i would expect from you when you don't know the info and you want to make SOE seem like a sucky, evil, and wanting money company (all companies want money)

<edit:  you DID agree to the NDA to get into beta, which means you DO have to give them your perspective. image>

if you were in beta, then you would actually respond and tell use features not annouced.

answer these questions and i might belive you are in beta:

    1.  What are the griffon station's names in which the griffions can fly to? (i want all six of them)

    2.  What item do you get as a gift from the person in your inn house during the first part of your hallmark quest in qeynos or freeport (both preferably)

    3.  What is the name of the beast that attacks the boat: The Fary Journey, and if you talk to the duke of the island, what do something think they do/serve.

    4.  What does the citizenship task involve doing? (be specific)

    5.  What has recently happened to Antonica?

    6.  Name all the continents/islands.

    7.  If i wanted to get to the Thundering Steppes from Qeynos, what direction would i take?

    8.  If i wanted to get to Nektolus forest from Freeport, what direction would i take?

    9.  What have people comented about the griffens behavior?  (they are _____)

    10.  What does it say on the doors of the 2 areans in the 2 cities?  (the sign on the 1 arena per city)

answer those, and i will belive you alot more when you say you are in beta.

dude, i wasn't asking you, and you got alot wrong, but now i'm going to have to make up some new questions, by the way the answers are:  (well i guess the rest of my evidence is enough to make people realize)

1.Qeynos Gates, Oracle Station, Steppes Station; Freeport Gates, Hidden Valley Station, Nektolus station

    2. as a gift from the person in your room, not from anyone else, Qeynos: Paiting, Freeport: Mirror

    3. Drakota, they serve the ancient dragons

    4.you were correct

    5.  it was instanced into 2

    6. Antonica/Thundering Steppes, Commonlands/ Nektolus Forest, Lavastorm, Everfrost, Zek, Enchanted lands, and Ferrot

    7. west

    8.  northwest

    9.  drunk

    10.  you were correct

okay, give me the character name?  and then i'll take you around and show you all the things you got wrong.  i'll show you that only the combat zones inside the city are instanced for example

    That's not true Kunarick

Commonlands and Antonica has been instanced for 4 days now. It's just not the combat zones inside the city

You said after citizenship quest is over, the game is pretty much boring after that? doesn't seem like you did much after that to test your theory....

Some of our characters were bumped.  Then erased.

Level 11 is about 2 or 3 days of playtime.

  • r1tualr1tual Member Posts: 559

Remember,  noone in beta is really over level 30.

Early on they gave characters that were level 35 to test some thing.

Then they did a character wipe.

Level 11 takes about 2 or 3 days.

High end content in EQ2 is just some special quests that you get from killing a monster and getting a rare loot drop.  THen you examine the rare loot and some of them give quests.  Other then that,  it is just going to a  high level zone and fighting what you find.

The high level quests are rare though.

Normal quests are the kind that are easy,  but get a little more harder when you start getting quests from npcs in the higher level zones.  But still nowhere as hard as the rare loot drop quests.   So just doing regular quests will be boring,  even at high level.  It is the special hidden quests you want to find.

Thats about it as far as high level stuff.  Guild housing is one.  Factions are just coming into the game in a limited degree,  so that could prove some more high end content.

Other then that just level grinding.

So.. you know the game "inside and out" at level 11?

    Heh.

If you're not over level 11, then you don't know the "end-game" content any better than someone who trolls the forums.

And... there are level 50 characters in the game right now, though they are GM buffed, too. I'm pretty sure there are also level 40+ people that have actually gotten there themselves, though..
