I'm looking for a new game to play until Guild Wars 2 comes out. I've never really played a sandbox game but I nerdgasm at the thought of a nearly perfect one. I don't think Aion really suits my taste. I'll be buying a new pc first though.
How is this game? How does it relate to sandbox? What is the extent of the theme park aspects? What is teh PvE/PvP like? Housing? Combat system? Quest system? What is the lvl cap?

There are no level like what you are thinking. Every skill and play style level to 100 and you can train everything to that level. HP, Stam, and MP cap at about 400 as well as the stats that affect those
Housing system isn't very good
PvP is great; full loot , sieges, and lpayer driven politics
PvE lacks a bit of depth but I still enjoy farmign mobs in DFO more than I did in GW. More PvE options are suppose to hit with the next patch. There isn't any "raid" content and dungeons are classic dungeon crawl with a chest at the end that you need a key to open.
Grind is manageable if you go in with some knowledge and don't go into nerd rage mode for dying and losing all of your stuff. The grind is easier than FFXI
The questing in the game is about the only thing that is theme-parkish with linear quest lines with progression in quest reward. Most people say questing is useless, but I doubt many of them have done enough to realize that the rewards do get good.

What he said, but in the games current state, pvp is very unbalanced because magic is the only way to pvp. I would wait for the expansion, which is due out be the end of October or November. If they make enough changes to magic, melee, and archery, than you should try this game because it's a lot of fun.
And dont forget the FFAPvP. It may sound as no big deal, but trust me. It can carry or crach the first time you are ganked without any reason.
Just take it as a man and walk it of.
I don't think people play that say that magic is the only way in this game. Most PvP is archery and melee, it's just spread out a lot more.
Magic, AE magic specifically rules in sieges, but they don't happen every night. Regular old in your face small squad fights usually have a good mix of magic and melee.
Sandbox is a term that's been thrown around a lot. I'd say SWG was more sandbox. Sandbox means that the world is pretty much an empty canvas and the players create everything.
I'd rate MMO's something like SWG at an 8.5, WoW at a 5, DF at an 8. You can make a lot, you're free to kill anyone at all, and loot them all the way. You can be a crafter that never fights or a fighter that never crafts. You can make boats, you can sail them around, and you can own houses.
the downside is you can't place houses where you want, they have to be on plots in villages, the character creation is ok, but it's not the customizable one that SWG was, the weapons have your name on them for everyone that loots to see, but there's 40 or so choices of which axe or 40 of which sword to make, but you can't design your own.
Then again sandbox sounds great, but it's not for everyone, which is why the more sandbox game fail. You're free to be bored because nobody is giving you a quest that moves you along, you're free to be frustrated because someone killed you.
It's pretty sandbox, but not 'free' to do anything.

PVP is hardcore (full loot, yes even your mount is stealable/lootable), but it's also very hectic and fun if executed right with tactics and ambushes
Raising skills is tedious, most, if not all do this by macroing
PVE is horrid and really not worth while, but necessary for reagants for magic etc.
Definately not a solo players game, you will not survive beyond the city gates alone, always travel with atleast one friend if venturing beyond the city limits.
Thanks
When the patch and free trial hits, I'll check it out.
Unless they have changed their stance (they haven't, have they?), you may be waiting a lengthy bit of time for a free trial...basically, don't hold your breath.
no- their stance is the same.
Fallen Earth is (apparently) going to be offering a limited trial of sorts soon, however. I think DF is missing the boat but hey- I have nothing invested here and if their buisiness model is working....
The game has merits (and flaws). However, it is not a sandbox. It's a FFA PVP-centric game. So, adjust your expectations accordingly.
Also, looks like it'll take quite a while for trials. Don't hold your breath.
