I have a couple of questions about vaults & storages. Some I *think* I know the answer to but don't want to assume, others I'm not really sure about.
1) Can you only access a Sector Vault in that sector in which you stored it in? Meaning, If I put something in a Sector Vault in S1 am I able to access it in S2 or is sector specific? Or are Sector Vaults global to the entire world?
2) What is a Barter Vault as I have only seen it in a single town so far. Do other towns have Barter Vaults? Is it storage for that town only? Are they sector specific or are they global across sectors wherever Barter Vaults are located? Can you only use it for "bartering" (whatever that means in this context)?
3) If you have items in storage on a mount, and you garage/stable that mount, are the items on your mount still in that storage once you retrieve that mount? If yes, does that mean my overall storage has in a way increased 5-fold?
4) Is there is any storage shared for your account or are they all separate storages for each individual character?
Thanks in advance!

I too have been wondering about these questions. I think I know the answers, but am not positive, so maybe someone who really knows can answer.

* Vaults are global. What you put in a Sector Vault in S1 you can access in S2 & S3. What you put in your Barter Vault in S2, you can access in S1 & S3.
2) What is a Barter Vault as I have only seen it in a single town so far. Do other towns have Barter Vaults? Is it storage for that town only? * Barter Vaults are simply vaults that are slightly less common. You can keep anything in it, but they are typically only found in larger towns that are considered "Barter" Towns.
3) If you have items in storage on a mount, and you garage/stable that mount, are the items on your mount still in that storage once you retrieve that mount? If yes, does that mean my overall storage has in a way increased 5-fold?
* Yes, mount inventories will stay intact when you stable/garage them. You can keep things on multiple mounts for extra storage, just be aware that you'll have to tow the mounts from place to place to keep them near you.
4) Is there is any storage shared for your account or are they all separate storages for each individual character?
*No. The only ways to transfer things afaik is to have a friend hold them or mail them to your other character, one stack at a time at 10 chips per mail.
Hope that helps,

FN pretty much nailed it.
Using horses as storage didn't seem practical to me and the amount of space vs. the pain of pulling them in and out of the garage doesn't seem worth it.
Mailing items back and forth for storage is not worth it either. The mail interface is slow (1 item at a time) and there is a 10 chip cost per letter.
When you start, you'll feel like you never have enough space. Once you figure out what is valuable and what is readily available for cheap, you have plenty of space in your sector vault.
I use the barter one for junk & things I probably won't need any time soon.
Also, there is a banker vault when you get your rep up with the bankers. I think there is one of these per sector but they are global too.
Don't forget the clan bank too.

Also if you plan on leveling your crafting you will get the improved ATV vehicle,I think it is called the cargo ATV,
This has 20 slots of storage,I am building towards that now just waiting for the crafting to be done on my 2nd ATV key to progress further,I think this is very useful if you plan to scavenge a lot when out questing.
If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

Mate, you are very, very, very far away from that cargo ATV.... You will then need to research improved frame, engine, ctrl system and tyres too, and those need 6 to 9 more standard parts (just the recipes!).
The work to get a cargo ATV takes minimum a whole week of non-stop crafting... and this is not kidding!
But I'll do it.... think I'm over halfway thru

Denial makes one look a lot dumber than he/she actually is.
Much abliged yall - thanks for the great responses!

Is not a problem mate,I am not going anywhere,as I said just waiting for my 2nd key to be done so I can progress further, did not think I was near done just saying there was this option for crafters to get more storage.

A quick addendum: You also have clan versions for all of these specific vaults that are also accessible under the same rules. This is a quick and easy way to transfer items between characters.
