No new races is really disappointing

Square-Enix is a multi-million dollar company with leading edge creators.
They have some of the most talented and skilled artists and creators for any video game company.
Yet they have to re-use all the same old races for their next game? That is just boring and lazy, whoever made that decision, It was a really poor one.
I could understand If they wanted to re-use some of them for comfort for the players, but to simply re-use all of them as the base races and have 0 new races just disgusts me.
I don't want to say It, but It's almost as if Square-Enix is becoming Japan's SOE :x
They should have let Yoshitaka Amano design some new races
I feel as though Square-Enix and the talented developers for XIV have let me down by recycling all the same old races and using them as a base instead of new races as the base races and the old ones as extras.

Just cause they havn't officially announced new ones yet....in the MMO world you don't play all your cards at once! There is clearly at least one new race in the mural; the Gria and maybe as many as 3 yet to be announced!
Square-Enix and SOE are so far from each other its insane to even think of them in the same existence!
Like the post below me said, there bound to be atleast one, if not 2, new races that have not been mention yet. Atleast wait a few months untill Square-Enix starts releasing more details.

The Gria look really lame for a new race, wasn't It Akihido Yoshida who designed It? Go figure...they should let Yoshitaka Amano be in charge of creative creations.
Square-Enix plays It way too safe these days as a result of their greed. There is such little creativity going on in their new products.
Atleast SOE isn't lazy and actually makes more than just 5 races for their games. I dare say SOE's developers look better at this point in time. Their marketing and management is a whole other story though.
I dont think its lazyness, they have to redesign the races anyways, but whos to say that there are not any new races? There is still so much we dont know. SOE got its bad rap from completly destroying games. Recycling classes is not game altering, nor game breaking. Its just a bit dissapointing (for some).
EDIT: Soe races in EQ2 were many but they were all watered down so keep that in mind aswell. Tho that game was the first MMO that I didnt go human. Sarnak (Dragon dude race) was just too cool to pass up.

Yeah, maybe they should add Dwarfs, Gnomes, Orcs, Half-lings and stuff, those have never been done before.....wait....
I'm not talking about un-original races such as those.
Way to completely fabricate my OP and make up delusions about me.
I was thinking more along the lines of Aracroix, Centaur, Anthropomorphic Griffins, Bears, Umaro's race ( Final Fantasy VI ) Esper like race ( Final Fantasy VI ) Kimahri Ronso like race ( Final Fantasy X ) etc
I had to troll a bit because of the hell-fire that blew out of my mouth from the comparison of SE to SOE.
But yes, you're right.
More races is better....You also have to realize WHY Square put the races (or at least very similar versions) from 11 in 14.
It was so the players that wanted to play the "same" characters in 14 as they did in 11 could. I don't really think that makes my arguement, or lack there of, any better, I'm just giving justification.
But don't worry, as everyone else has said there are going to be more starting races than the one's from 11.....hopefully even some of the ones you just mentioned.
I understand your frustration and also hope there are new races. If the game is as good as FFXI I don't care if there aren't any new races just as long as there is great game play and now dumb/watered downed mess. Complaining about having new races is on the bottom of my totem pole for this game but it is something I would love to see.

I am also disappointed that they have decided to re-use all the same races from FFXI and possibly add none or only a small amount of new ones.
It's only natural though. When companies get really big, they love to play It as safe as possible and any idea, no matter how good or amazing, is seen as a possible threat to potential subscribers, thus It is immediately scrapped.
Sadly this is what the industry has come to. And in my meek opinion, a lot of games have really gone down hill compared to the snes and psx and even ps2 era.
It really is a shame. I personally love new and unique races in my MMORPG's.
I would've been happy if they made an entire new set of races but also added the old ones to console XI players.
TBH, I'd rather they focus on gameplay then add races that just spin-off something from another IP, the graphics in this game are already amazing, they don't need to add any new races.

AS for new races, why? aside from teh i want them factor, why should they add new races? so you can complain about how the new races arnt unique and just rip off other games? if it aint broke dont fix it.

Again it has nothing to do with lazyness. They are haveing to put a lot of new work into the races. It wont just be a copy and paste from FFXI. Just look at the difference from an ffxi character to an ffxiv character. There is a huge improvement. Not to mention that they "should " have a much improved character creation system than in XI.
You seem hell bent on laziness when its not. All I can say is if you dont like it there are several other high profile MMO's coming out in 2010 and when you realize that they are the same old crap thats been coming out for the past few years maybe you can barry the hatchet and accept that SE re-used the same races for the reasons they stated, and give it a go. For the most part this is a very minor topic. A lot of people dont even care. Crying about it will get you no where So you got a choice.

I was hoping Square's next MMO would be on Ivalice with those races.
Since we're not playing on Ivalice or Vana'diel I would like to see different races to go along with the different world.
Well I Care. To me, the character model and race is there for the entire journey of the game and all those hours you put into the game. So I would like something that I find cool and interesting as a race and something that enhances my fun by playing a race I find that Is cool.

I completely agree. It's a very important aspect for me too. Graphics are one half of the game and the gameplay is the other. They both are connected and rely upon each other to make a game complete.
the fact that they aren't introducing new races doesn't bother me. i actually don't want any new races. sometimes introducing new races IS the lazy option. i mean, it's pretty easy to say, "hey you can be a goblin now! isn't that awesome?!" no. it's not that awesome. it's just a different graphic model with some different numbers attached to it. in fact, i hope SE never feels it has to introduce a new race because i would prefer them focus on other more enjoyable gameplay elements that don't require me to make a new character to enjoy.
part of the beauty of ffxi was that you could experience everything with one character. the developers are shooting for the same thing in ffxiv, so to introduce new races would just be kinda stupid. especially if the current races embody all the archetypes necessary to balance the game for an individual's personal playing style.
Lets just face the facts people that SE has already decided on the races. If there are more races hurray for new races if not so what. If not having any new races is gonna destroy your joy with this game then just don't play it. What more do you want from SE? Like I said earlier I'm all for new races like everyone else. I rather have them focus on finishing/polishing the game for a sooner launch date than new races.

Your probably right, but that isn't wrong in any way shape or form, they wanted to dedicated their time to revamping and innovating other parts of their game other than just the amount of races they have in the game.

Yup I actually do find it weird but its not gonna disturb my game play. As long as the story is good, enough content at launch to last a few months of play til a expansion, they fight against cgf from the start, and some good graphics I'm good to go. Hell they could have used the same name and models from XI as long as its next gen graphics I would still play it.
