worth the stupid price tag?

CaldrinCaldrin Member UncommonPosts: 4,505

What is it with MMOs being released this year all have a stupid price tag attached to them.

I guess its got a bit better now you can pick up aion on steam for £34.99 in the UK but thats still more expensive than normal games.

I have probally played most MMOs out there and currently dont think any would be worth this price tag.. so is aion different is it worth it ?

Well, I havn't played it myself; nor looked at it all that much. However, it seems to be getting much better responses than any of the other mmorpgs recently released. So.. it may be worth giving it a try. Look up some gameplay videos and see for yourself, I guess.

that's only 52 US bucks, I think that's actually cheaper than what I payed over here.  It's certainly cheaper than most games nowadays, what are you talking about lol.

  • CaldrinCaldrin Member UncommonPosts: 4,505

yeah i have been and it dont look too bad..

shame there is no trial but thats usually the same for most new mmos so cant complain too much there.

I can pick up most games on release for £29.99 and they dont have a monthly fee lol.. oook so its only £5 difference but i liek my cash LOL :)

also if its true and this is just one big grind of basically the same kill quest over and over i may as well go sign up to one of the free asian mmos... and save myself £35 LOL

  • BloodaxesBloodaxes Member EpicPosts: 4,662

The difference like you said that's a single player while the other is an online game.

When X mmo is new their price is high and in a month or 2 start to get cheaper it's normal.

Well in the UK its not cheaper than most games by a long shot, the normal price (RRP) is £44.99 (71 Dollars)  which is really quite alot compared to other new releases. Take a look at game.co.uk and you will see Left for Dead 2, Borderlands and a few other soon to be released games are at £24.99.

Game currently has it with £10 off at 34.99 - Source

    Amazon.co.uk has it  for £44 - Source

I suspect that is what he is talking about lol

Simple answer. NO not worth it at all.

Do you not read the other posts in this form?

Take game play out of it for a second you may or may not like Aion as a whole personal oppinion and game play style very.

Just look at all the bot and gold seller threads if this does not turn you off to the game or just make you want to wait a few weeks or months till this is fixed then by all means get the game, but you are not getting a collectors edition and the normal verson is not going any where any time soon so my advice is to just wait a bit to see  how the curent problems work them selves out.

Single Player Games nowadays give me 8-20 hours entertainment value.

A new MMO with a free month I'll spend more than 80 hours during that month playing it and thats generous. These games have cut my entertainment costs drastically. True a good single player game is worth it but I will be less likely to buy the "iffy" B games and just stick to buying the AAA blockbuster single player games.

MMO's are one of the cheapest forms of entertainment you can find. I can't see price being an issue here. Of course if you don't like the game then it is a waste but that was what Beta was for.

In the UK most PC games are only £25. So 34.99 is a lot for a PC game.

down here is Aus its $100

so i really wouldn't be complaining over the price until you have shopped in an Australian game shop.

I'd say more like 25-28, so you're paying too much, change the store you're buying from :)

I don't know what it is but 50 USD seems like a lot for a subscription based game. Honestly I was just mentioning in another post how my gf and I are looking into buying WAR to replace our current lacking MMOs and found out that it'll run a much more reasonable $20 for, what is granted, an older game. I know everyone's trying to make as much money as they can off their work, as usual and proper, but honestly if I were given the option of downloading a game like Champions Online for free which has/had several post open beta problems and just pay a monthly fee instead of the added $50 they'd have at least some of my money now instead of none. With WAR selling their "client" with a free month of play for $5 more than what they'd get for a monthly fee anyway I'm honestly surprised no one has thought to go this way yet, or be able to get it past EA, Atari, etc.

As for Aion, we were looking into this since she was previously, except for a very short stint in EQ, a new MMO player when WoW launched. I prefer a more sandbox/PvP game myself as an old UO (pre-trammel) player but knew this wasn't what she was after, she still needs a bit of polish to look at which is fine. Besides the obvious problems after Lineage2 (for me) with an NCSoft Asian title (bots, bots and more bots) and the gold farming issue Aion seemed to be more interested in moving you towards the end that having fun getting there, but that's maybe an IMO problem. My biggest problem seemed to be that even though they added flight they really let you down on it, it's not flight as much as ooo I got wings look what I can't do with these here, that and the PvP is a bit too buried for me, I'm not asking to be running around in the woods and getting ganked ala UO (although I do miss it) but even WoW gets you at least in the general vicinity of light open PvP after you hit a third zone or staged PvP at around 17+. As usual, just my opinion.

    Played in some form:
UO til tram, AC, EQ, AO, WW2O, PS, SB, CoH, AC2, Hor, LoTRO, DDO, AoC, Aion, CO, STO
    Playing: WoW (for gf), WAR
    Waiting For: SWTOR, FFXVI
Hoping For: DCUO, Secret World, Earthrise
    -S- (UO Sonoma)

Grakel if you are going to play WAR here is some advice. if you want to play destruction go dark craig if you want order go volkmar. as thoese are the two dominate factions on thoese servers.

The game was bascikly on deaths door as I left last month populations on all servers where low/low at almost all times last report was something like 500k sub's and that was before the Aion release think they are some where around 300k or so to put it in perspective age of conan has more subs then WAR .

I loved the game and it was hard to give up but the game is like someone with a terminal illness that you are around for a long time at some point you know you are just waiting around for the end to just come and even tho it is not the end yet you are allready prepaired and have mentaly moved on.

    Thanks,

We're still in the trial but so far we're enjoying it. I haven't found any trouble finding people yet but my guess is it's because they pretty much stick you with a two server choice during the trial and with 1.3.2 just out people are looking. Currently on Iron Rock (Destr.) and Gorefang (Order) but if we decide to stay I'll keep the other two in mind. As for numbers I'm not too worried as long as I can occasionally find a pickup group and theres a decent community it'll keep my interest. As for the terminal illness, yeah I've been getting that from every other game we've tried recently. It seems we either find a decent kinda active community on a game we can give or take, CoH, or a bunch of people we wouldn't be around for free on an active game, Aion/ WoW.

My honest opinion, and that is ALL, it is MINE!

Only been on for like a week now, started playing a Sorc to level 13, wanted to try another class so made a Cleric.

Guess what? I got to play the exact same stuff I did the first time, no variation, no new starting area, the exact same damn thing.

Do people only play 1 toon in Korea? I like choice, this game does not give it to you, follow the yellow (shiny) brick road, because you can not go any where else!

Save you money unless you only want to play 1 single toon, then I guess it is worth your money.

The game it's self  is not bad, gold spammers are mostly under control for now, bots still get a lot of complaints.

Back to EQ2 for me, can start any where I want to and don't have to delete toons to try the other side. YES that is right, you can only play on 1 side per server, want to try evil start a new toon on a new server or delete your good toon.

    Enjoy
